So is Araxos cool to explore now, please calm my 'tism. I kinda want to play it to see how it changes but I am not sure if I will play it again (then again, I love Gothic 1 and 2 and in lieu of replaying them, I am going to play Archolos)

Some of my own autism after second playthrough:
  • Art direction is richer than in G2. The architecture, the armors. Captain Obvious :salute:
  • Bigger scale than G2 overall. 80 vs 130 hours of gameplay if you go autisto.
  • Has fucking telekinesis spell unlike G2 :argh:
  • World is more eventful. But some events feel retarded. Like the guy with a pot on his head. Something-something Mud... we get it. Ha-ha so funny.
  • World feels alive because npcs change their location between chapters. You can observe Orcs increasing patrols and begin to prepare invasion. The city gets flooded with more refugees. Businesses get shut down. Many such details.
  • Pretty sure the only innocent ncps you can kill in Archolos are no names. :argh:
  • Crime system feels primitive and easily abused. But i guess it's better than Vatras denouncing me as Beliar in the flesh because i killed a few random peasants and Valentino.
  • Additions to the lore in Archolos are welcome because all the lore for Gothic series Piranha ever wrote can probably fit on a couple A4 pages. I think the devs done solid here.
  • World wise it's as good as G2. It's fun to explore and well designed with secrets and treasures.
  • The city is much grander than in G2. Slums alone feel like half of the Khorinis. It's harder to navigate but you get used to it. One of the coolest cities i've seen in games.
  • Vardhal > Irdorath.
  • Story is... well, depends on what you prefer: Political bullshit + gotta find muh bro or generic fantasy bullshit with dragons n shiet. Gothic was never good for it's story.
  • It's easier than G2 NotR and less autistic, like you don't have to build your stat enough with LP before you can drink all the potions. But to me it feels like it lost some part of fun because you don't strugge as much and not as invested.
  • Both have shit economy and exploits. But it's mostly a problem for veteran players. In my second playthrough of Archolos i had like 30 thousand gold when i finished it with not much to spend it on, i was Greta and Slager apprentice. In G2 i had 40-50 thousand as a Harads apprentice with everything bought.
  • Two Guilds you can join are very distinct and have interesting quests. But some quests feel way too hand holdy like in modern games.
  • Archolos doesn't have a mage guild to join like G2. But who cares, nobody plays mages. You can still do wingardium leviosa like a faggot if you want, there are runes to collect.
  • Marvin is a bitch boy cuck. Nameless is a chad neanderthal and much more entertaining character.
  • There is cringy romantic quest where a woman sings. Wouln't be a polish game without some woman singing your ears off.
  • Has general annoying femoid problem unlike Gothic games.
  • Archolos got forced story dialogues where you have to make a single 'right' choice because everything else leads to Marvin's death.
  • You can actually cook food other than grilled meat.
  • The resource grinding feels a bit overdone.

Despite some problems i still have with Archolos. I consider this game a gift to gothic players, worthy of Gothic franchise.

You forgot to mention the hundreds of thousand of FedEX quests that bore the player to death.
- "Marvin go fetch me some apples"
- "Marvin, I need a new soup"
- "Marvin I need some wolf pelts"
- "Marvin let me tell you a story about my grandad"

I've just beaten the game as a mage an I was a little bit disappointed. I mean, the game itself is absolutely amazing (except for the weird design of some quests), the world is even better than in G2 (which is my favorite game of all time), the plot is superb, but the magic system is not very good.
Playing as mage was fantastic at first, when I was at the first 2 circles. But when I reached circle 3, I became absolutely invincible. When I got to circle 4 and got access to the Lightning spell, I used it to kill EVERY fucking enemy in the game except for two golems in Vardhal (because they were immune to lightning). Yes, one spell for all enemies. And my MP was regenerating so fast I didn't even need to drink any potions.

"Marvin, follow me three times from the warehouse to the harbour as I slowly walk around carrying some crates."
I think this quest was quite cool. Yes, it's just walking from one place to another, but it was directed really good. The game has some annoying fetch quests, but I think this one doesn't belong to them.

Yeah. My favorite quest in the game is probably the one in the barbarian camp where you just help the blacksmith finish his work for the day and he rambles about his people's history. Or, possibly, the part where you're trying to persuade an old fisherman to help you with something, so he asks you to tell him a story, but he gets angry with you and calls you a liar if you pick anything but the most boring and mundane options. If anything, I wish the game had even more boring quests about sweeping or moving boxes.

I love the choices and consequences in this mod, you either have the chance to accept a quest or refuse it.

Are you trying to bump up your RPG stats with these shitposts so your account looks more legit or what
Not my fault if there is no good release.
Sure thing, there definitely isn't 30 years of rich gaming history to go through or anything, several modifications of which alone can provide hundreds upon hundreds of hours, nope definitely not anything like that around.

Here's a graphics overhaul i did for the mod, if someone's interested. It also works for G2. Screenshots on the page (i use the G3D11 renderer + normal maps.)
https://www.nexusmods.com/gothic2/mods/91
Looks not-shit, nice! Does the engine support parallax textures and did you make use of them to add depth? E.g. for cobblestone textures.

I recently went through modding FNV and while wading through the swamp of texture mods I found many that I liked artistically, but had nonsensical resolutions and compression. You’ve been doing this for a while so I don’t mean to be insulting, but as much as the engine supports it, are you saving textures with appropriate mipmaps and compression? On the compression front, I’m thinking whatever the G2 engine equivalent is for using DXT1 on textures without an alpha channel, DXT3 for 1 bit alpha channels, and DXT5 for alpha gradients (not sure bit depth).
late reply but, no it doesn't support parallax. G2 uses a format called .tex, not sure what the limitations are or what it really converts it to in the end (in terms of compression)..

didn't play this one yet (hoping the new update will come out soon'ish), i guess i have seen some spoilers when retexturing this entire thing.. but idk :) the game has an awful lot of corpses for example (textures for them), so i guess that must be something with the story perhaps. it has a shit ton more NPC's than Gothic, hundreds more. Overall much bigger.. will be cool to check out.

December 10 remains an important date for all members of our team for many years to come. Today, together with you, we want to celebrate the third anniversary of the release of our mod. We have prepared a short video with a snippet of the content you can expect in the upcoming Mod of The Decade Edition.

We would also like to briefly flesh out a few facts and answer the most frequently asked questions:
  • As you can learn from the video, we are still working on the 2.0 version. Much slower than before the release due to personal and professional reasons, but we are moving forward.
  • The release date is still undetermined; we will only announce it when we are completely sure when we can deliver the update.
  • Mod of the Decade Edition (also called the 2.0 version) will be released simultaneously with the (obviously free) Hardcore Mode DLC. Mind that, you don't need to run Hardcore Mode to enjoy most of the new features of the 2.0 version
  • If you want to keep up to date with everything we are currently working on, join our Discord server: https://discord.gg/FHDHweuCVB
So, grab a mug of Dark Paladin in your hand and enjoy!

I hope the dev time indicates the scope of the new content, rather than that they're running on skeleton crew...
