That's because there's no taste, only genius.

I wonder if it's okay traveling to Hiberhaim without first exploring the forest area. I went to the witch's shack almost immediately and now am at the lake.

This is actually the intended path. A lot of people banged their heads against the wall because they kept trying to tackle higher level stuff in the forest because it didn't seem intuitive for them to enter one area and then almost immediately head into another.

Rule of thumb is that if the enemies are the same level you are, you're okay.

In other news, I've finished the EE on tactician mode yesterday (not that anyone cares, of course).

Compared to vanilla, the last zones (Phantom Forest, Hunter's Edge, Source Temple, Finale) where notably better, imo.
Less trashmobs, several of the remaining fights could pose some challenge to my non-cheese-focused party and generally a bigger focus on the puzzle parts.

Overall I liked the changes in the EE, although some issues persisted (presentation of the story, writing).

Edit: Forgot to mention, the performance has been improved quite a lot. It ran reasonably well on my old toaster before, but with EE it's much smoother, while I didn't notice any obvious visual downgrades. Well done.

What's with the teller of secrets broad? Is it worth to buy her maps or are all the treasures mapped in them also obtainable with high perception? Or are these ''secrets'' maps at all? There are three kinds and i no precise description on what they discover.

Edit: I killed here and it doesn't seem to make any difference. There is no reputation hit or anything. I suppose she doesn't restock the skill/attribute books after a while?

Anybody want to try the new "VR mode"?

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/larianstudios/divinity-original-sin-2/posts/1533062

Now, we cordially invite you to JOIN US in testing out our first attempt at VR gaming.

Who? PC players of Divinity: Original Sin- Enhanced Edition

What? Larian’s first in-game VR mode. You do NOT need a VR headset to try it.

Where? In your own living room/ dungeon/ Void

When? Right now!

How?
- Fire up Steam or GOG and download the most recent update for Divinity: Original Sin- Enhanced Edition.
- Start a new game. (The new mode won’t work in older saved games.)
- Conduct a little treasure hunt around the starting area of the game (VR-goggle engineering imps are known to hide loot along walls and behind crates) and you'll find a very special bag with everything you need to try the new mode.

The summary is not very clear, what does this mode do?

EDIT: I watched the video and Swen said that the guy is playing with himself, that actually explains a lot about Larian's design decisions :p

Wonder what's the point of Walter wishing well's weather change will, given it's only available, when you've already completed the whole Hiberheim, where, i assume, he changes the weather in. Larian really made some silly design choices this time around. Like the paper scirzzors game, which is literally useless as there's no point having any 'diplomatic wins' against anyone. Killing everyone is ALWAYS more profitable in both xp and loot. :M

It's clear that the combat has the most thought put into it, so you shouldn't be surprised. The whole problem is that the systems contradict, rather than complement each other. Great combat is countered by pathetic difficulty; exploration is countered by RNG loot which is doubly countered by crafting; roleplaying is countered by the traits and rock, paper, scissors; it being a long game is countered by lame writing; the choices you are given are countered by the lack of reactivity; etc. etc. I'm more hopeful about D:OS2, but I shouldn't be because hope is a cruel mistress.

Yep. That it is.

Btw, what a fool i was to invest into one handers. Two handers are so much better and shield is hardly worth it. Found this Sword of holy flame somewhere and it's more effective with zero points in the skill than one-handed crap with 5 (Jahan, who has crafting and blacksmith maxed out upgraded it with goodies too - it's fucking devastating) . :?

This is the first game I've bought in years and so far I'm loving it.
I'm in the second area right now, Luculla Forest, went almost straight to the other side of the river by using the pyramids and got a bit too far, didn't feel like it was time for fire to rain down on the end of time yet so I reloaded and am doing this area a bit slower instead.
I might remember things incorrectly but if my memory serves me right this is basically the only game (at least recent, of the ones I've played (I must confess that I haven't played the gold box era games)) where for example rain makes puddles which you can then electrify, something that have always bothered me about magic in other games: no environmental effects (or whatever it's called).

I don't really get what some people have against the story though (or maybe I'm misunderstanding and it's not the story, but the writing?), I mean I'm pretty sure that I've already figured out everything that's going to happen (and it sort of bothered me that my characters, even though one has an intelligence at about 18 (10-12 without bonus stats) haven't figured it out too, and can't ask the Imp, Arhu and/or the Weaver, the questions I want to ask them, but I get that having a high intelligence character shouldn't spoil the story for the player this early, that might deter some people from finishing the game etc , but I don't think there's anything wrong with it (the story that is).

Anyhow.. Can anyone recommend me a game or two that I might like based on the fact that I like the combat in this game? (and the IMO satisfying story) Except of course for the sequel that I'm already quite certain that I will buy when it comes out (or, you know, like this time, on a steam sale with the EE).

Voidspire Tactics has environmental interactions as well (I strongly suspect it was directly inspired by DOS). It even arguably takes them a bit further because they are also used for some slight puzzles. Despite the name, it's also a very open-ended game with a strong focus on exploration, a ton of secrets and alternative non-combat solutions.

It is my understanding that you should be suspicious of parrots on this site so I searched for your posts on Underrail and it seems I was correct (at least on this occasion).

Both of those games looks somewhat interesting to me (Underrail I had naturally already heard about, being a long time lurker here) unfortunately neither of them have a Linux client and I hate everything windows with a passion (wasn't that long ago that I decided to drop windows permanently though, but I've thought about it basically the entire time I've been lurking here) so I only support developers that release their games for Linux as well (no, fuck wine) but if that ever happens then I might get it/them.

(also I realised that I lied before, I actually bought NuXCOM too, but that was like 5$ on steam when I bought it so..)
