I see from that discount Veilguard is on track to join the other 2024 woke gaming triumphs. Won't be long till we see the 95% off sales at this rate then Darrah and Bio can finally start boasting about sales figures.

I was with you until the Merrill take. Yes Merrill is a retard but a retarded blood mage was kind of interesting compared to the almost generic evil blood mages that we see in the rest of the series.
I didn't think there was anything interesting about her blood mage angle, it was literally "person plays with fire, in a city filled with burned victims, is surprised that she gets burned". Considering the entire other context of the game, all you could do is sit there and go "Have you paid 0 fucking attention to anything else, at all?".

She is the embodiment of the game's retarded storytelling, as in that it insults the viewer by requiring you to forget everything else that happens and regard every story in its own isolated bubble.
I actually suffered through dragon age 2 and I don't understand how anyone who played it thinks this.

Merrill's storyline goes like this:

Merrill: "I know demons are dangerous but I am going to use one to gain knowledge because I think the risk is worth the reward."
Merrill's Keeper: "I'm going to let a demon possess me to show you how you're wrong."
Merrill's Clan: "I can't believe Merrill did this."

The entire story was retarded. Merrill was not.

Right so are you going to tell me that she didn't:
  1. Lose a clan member in Origins to one of those mirrors.
  2. Started talking to a demon.
  3. Learned blood magic.
  4. Started building a new mirror via the instructions of the demon.
  5. Got kicked out of her clan because everyone told her "this shit is DANGEROUS, STOP".
  6. Continued to interact and do as the demon instructed her to do, even if you tell her to stop because it's fucking dangerous.
  7. Continued to interact and do as the demon instructed her to do, even if you hinder her research.
And we're supposed to think she's not retarded because 'no one could've seen the following coming':
  1. That the demon's plan was to come through the mirror and possess Merrill once she completed the mirror.
  2. The demon immediately possessing the first person it could and start a murder rampage.
  3. That something called a demon is actually fucking manipulative and dangerous.
Her keeper did not go, "I'm going to let a demon posses me to show you that you're wrong". She found out what the demon's plan was and that Merrill WOULDN'T LISTEN TO ANYONE AND KEPT DOING WHAT THE DEMON TOLD HER TO DO. Her keeper got herself killed (possessed) while trying to stop the demon from fucking over naive, unsuspecting little Merrill (and possibly her entire clan).

Like dude, what the hell are you on about?

You can slaughter Merril's whole clan and that finally makes her understand something.
