Well if DD2 is ever announced, it would be at a big show like Sony conference, not this kind of dedicated presentation. So probably the rumored PS Showcase in a few weeks, or TGS, or DoritoPope's TGA, or never this year.

Don't know if it's ever been brought up in this thread, but I would highly recommend anyone looking to do a replay to try out this mod.

World Difficulty Mod

I think the easiest explanation for what this mod does is create a hard mode that doesn't become trivial after the first couple hours. The first 3-4 hours can be a bit rough and tumble, but I've been playing the mod for a good 20 hours now and I love it. Challenge is consistent but not insane like a lot of community difficulty mods tend to be, leveling and experience gain has been modified so that you don't hit level 60 three-quarters of the way through the main campaign, and there have been some tweaks to enemy AI and behavior that make for more interesting encounters. The hardest part about using this mod is the additional XP mod you have to merge into the "game_main.arc"

Here is the actual merging tool

And here's the simplest video I could find about how to do it that didn't have a bunch of other shit in it you don't need to know.



If you want to play the Dark Arisen expansion with the mod, you'll have to join the discord and ask for the latest version of it once you're at that point in the game.

Hope this leads to some of you trying out this awesome mod that's breathed some fresh life into one of my favorite games! And I hope you're able to install it with little to no problem with the information and links I provided above (I had to do some digging for some of this stuff - including the merging tool and fucking discord link - when I was first trying to install it). It was time for a replay, especially with Dragon's Dogma 2 just a year or two away. This mod has made it a very special return to the game.

Guys, help me to like this game :( I tried 3 times, (mage, mage, strider) and each and every time dropped the game after few hours. In theory, it has everything I like, but for some reason it doesn't click / hook me in, and I'm trying to identify the reason. Maybe weak story? Or maybe lack of interesting subquests in the beginning? Not a big fun of combat as well, very 'arcade-y', little impact felt. Not a fun of a pawn system as well. (oh wow, I just listed whole bunch of things it seems)

Is there any point of the game when I can definitely tell 'if I didn't like it up until now, no point in playing'? Just to put things into perspective, I reached Gran Soren once, and spent less than 20min there.

I'm not trolling here, seriously want to like the game and can't get my finger of what's wrong. Any tips welcome.

The main storyline is pretty dry and doesn't really become something until around the gryphon fight, but the story in this game won't make you think it's super special despite a few fun twists by the end of it. Bitterblack Isle is when it feels like the game dedicates its focus to what it does best and that is the dungeon crawling aspect which puts the shine on its combat while maintaining good difficulty for your first time playthrough.

The combat is among the best in the action RPG sphere. It makes fights with monsters feel much more engaging by how you can do things like locational damage. Rather than trading blows with a chimera until it falls over, you kill off its heads and reduce its abilities throughout the fight. Don't know how there's no impact felt when you have things like being able to save someone from being devoured by a hydra by cutting off its head.

Since Dragon's Dogma is very much focused on its action-based combat, you aren't going to like it if you dislike the combat, although it's rather strange you could complain about a lack of "impact" as this is an area where the game excels.
Perhaps starting as a fighter would help, but it seems probable that you simply don't care for this game. :M

Maybe trying it out as a Mage the first couple times was the big issue since they may have a tougher time starting out. I'm a retard that loves to bash his face into things so I went with a melee vocation and cruised control my way to eternal longing for Dragon's Dogma 2.

The only mod I ever put on for DD was the no weight limit capacity for items because I absolutely despise that shit in just about every RPG I've ever played. Besides this difficulty mod, are there any others that are stand-outs? I just recall seeing some coomer mods for girl characters otherwise.

Nope, this is the best mod I've ever seen for the game. He mentions in the description somewhere briefly a shader mod he used personally while making and testing this mod, so that might be worth checking out. Again, highly recommend this. It pretty much puts the game right where I always wanted it to be in terms of difficulty and progression balance. If you have any question on how to apply it, let me know.

I also find weight limits to be annoying, but it always seemed to worked well in this game. It made you stop and consider what you were rummaging around for, what you wanted to give your pawn-mule to carry, and how many healing items you could reasonable take along in a single excursion. Hell, it even plays an important part in how they handle fast travel in the game. It's well thought out, and one of the many reasons why I love Dragon's Dogma.

Try the assassin class. For me it's easily the best and most exciting in the game.

The game's ALL about combat. I don't even see it as an RPG, I think it's more like a modern day Beat 'Em Up. So if you 'aint feeling your class it's always gonna be a bind.

Personally I couldn't get on with it at all with any other class apart from assassin, but when I played that class I was addicted and I then had a blast swathing my way through the game. First playthrough was awesome, but because of the lack of depth subsequent attempts to play it through again have always been cut short.

I used this for my last playthrough a year ago. It didn't cover BBI back then at least which was disappointing, but other than that I liked it.

I think it's more like a modern day Beat 'Em Up.

I said it before, but this game is like an "all grown up" or spiritual successor to Tower of Doom/Shadow over Mystara without the D&D license. The way it integrates RPG mechanics while not taking away from the core gameplay should make it mandatory playing for future game developers of RPG projects.

In fact, if Capcom ever got the D&D license again and put the people in charge of Dark Arisen on that with tons of budget I'd probably become such an insufferable shill of the game they'd have no choice but to ban me from this site after unanimous vote.

Personally I find this game easy to come back to even after having beaten it. It's one of my "I don't know what else to play but I want to play something" games at this point. Bitterblack Isle is a great dungeon experience and dark fantasy done well is always appreciated.

Probably the most classic bestiary of all games I have seen so far. Also you know a game is top-class if Generic-Giant-Spider does not complain about the representation of his species.
