Dragon's Dogma is only superficially Open World, as it was intended to encompass a far larger environment inspired by The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but budgetary considerations required the game to be scaled back early in development.
if anything going off the beaten path feels like walking into the unfinished dev zone. specifically the entire western 'plains of conquest', for one. its tourism of a sort.

what happens when i accept the wyrm hunt? it says i lose all my quests. literally? or are they just put on hold while i do this main quest part? because i'm pretty completitionist, i still need to hunt boars and crows, and some more undead.
When you advance in main quest some quests (except the ones you got from questboards) will fail and progress without you. So it's better to finish all you can before progressing.

Looking at the historical player chart is almost depressing. I knew it was a bit of a niche game within its genre but for some reason I figured it would have had more than 1-1500 concurrent players before the sequel was announced.
Eh, don't forget that the game was already old af when it finally came to PC. It's a PS3/XB360 era game from 2012. PC release wasn't until 2016 and most people aren't going to buy old games or multiple copies of games. (That being said, I've gotten the impression it was super niche on consoles too - BTFO by Skyrim and Dark Souls.)

i fucking bought dragons dogma three times. once on 360, twice on 360 cause im retarded - i thought Dark Arisen was a completely new game, turned out it wasnt.... then third time on PC. PC version is much superior to the console version though. smooth fps. no performance hiccups in bitterblack isle. clean graphics. and mods.

I bought it five times. Twice on PS3, once on PS4, once on PC, and on Switch. Now that we're done this pissing contest, can we agree that we're dumber than the average consumer? :P

Do you mean accepting the first wyrm hunt quest or leaving the wyrm hunt quests in order to enter the Duke's court for the first time? I don't think the former causes anything to fail, but if you want to be certain that you aren't unknowingly shut out of quests, you can check the wiki's pages that divide Dragon's Dogma into 7 stages: https://dragonsdogma.fandom.com/wiki/Stage_2 As detailed on the stage 3 page, a number of quests will fail if not completed before entering the Duke's court.

I've bought it four times, twice as gifts. I consider it worthwhile, since it did eventually prompt Capcom to fund a sequel. :M

Looking at the historical player chart is almost depressing.

Thanks to PC release Dragon's Dogma crossed 1mln mark and now sits at around 2.1mln units sold. Half of sales of it were on PC.

PC release is the reason why DD2 exists because it has shown Capcom that there was fanbase for this game but they just missed it as most of it was on PC.

Also letterbox, 20fps below 720p ps3 version didn't help sales. I still remember how sit it run.

I hope this late discovery, playerbase spike, belated appreciation and retrograde esteem by a broader consumer base and general vidya newsphere translates into sales come the time of DD2's release. I foresee a great deal of viewership and anticipation once they start their pre-release trailer and gameplay circus proper.

Moreso than the original ever had, anyway.

At least when you get to the lvl armor and weapons it will get a lot easier

I fucking hope so. Just got into a shitty situation where I had to deal with 2 garms 2 big cyclops prisoners + shitty enemy pawns throwing AoEs at us while dealing with all that crap.

Aw man. I had to take a break after that.
I was able to b8 them out so that I only had to deal with one cyclops.

Dude seeing your pawn get sandwiched followed by everybody else getting obliterated while an enemy's tornado spell kept me flying in the air watching all this horror unfold was too traumatizing. I might try again later though.

I just used bait for that first prisoner gorecyclops in BI, it lured undead dragon and after i quickly released cyclops from chains the kaiju battle started. Cyclops died though not without a fight taking almost 7/10 health of that dragon, sadly no loot. Since i was too weak to fight any of these creatures i just watched in amusment and then hastily run towards exit.

I think my favourite memory was in the second run of BBI, in the Fallen City where I had a cursed dragon, two caster wyverns casting the fuckhuge lightning and ice spells at me, and then the eliminators and living armours on the ground. I spent a lot of time running around, hopping across rooftops and yelling. It was amazing.

Yeah, Bitterblack Isle is still fun to play in after all these years. Besides Everfall I can't think of anything that's as remotely challenging as Bitterblack.

Spell spamming wyverns can fuck right off.
They will if you convey such a sentiment forcefully enough.

This is probably what you're looking for... and it's making me want to replay it. Again.
It's just a drake, but the idea's still the same.
