i look to this topic hoping to read some non-cringe posts and each time its:

1) curratum bitching about getting owned by dropwolves from the sky or getting stuck in a 3 room dungeon (prolly has a grizzly bear blocking it that he had to run away from xd)

2) tl;dr shit about some newfags gaming experience

3) "dis game iz awesome guyzzzz"

4) essays about whether it is a REAL open world game

like post some shit that actually matters like i did about breaking this trash non-anime game in under 1 hour >.>

The boss difficulty really is all over the place. Just wrecked Makar. What a pussy, easiest 'major' Soulsborne boss since Gaping Dragon. He's got a cheevo and all so you know From considered him a serious opponent. The trash bat groups on the way up to him were hard work in comparison.

Is this nonsense demographics explained somewhere? I mean, there are lots of castles with noble NPCs around (Irina ans her father, that Kenneth Haite fella) and their troops and convoys, etc. but not enough actual serfs or common folk to be seen. Only in the very start of the game there are what appears to be some groups of serfs digging the ground searching for something, but that's it. Where are their homes? Their villages? Etc.
Don't bother. I don't think there's even been a single game made that at least attempted to realistically simulate a medieval city and its surroundings. They just slap a castle in the middle of nowhere and forget everything about the fields, the farmers, the villages. Kingdom Come: Deliverance was the only one I remember even trying to do so.
DS1 shows you the lands outside Lordran in the horizon looking from Firelink Shrine, and imply (through snippets of lore) that those are inhabited. And even the places inside the game have some resemblance of settlements and homes ( Undead burg, Lower burg, New Londo), with plausible explanations for their desolation.

Here? There are nobles arguing about inheritances and legitimacy and wars raging on.... but over what? Dogs and mosquitoes? Sorry but this sense of place, this illusion of a plausible organic world is lacking in Elden Ring so far. I never needed to turn off my brain to these things in past From games as I'm having to do here. That being said, I just saw the faint silhouette of what looks like a continent on the horizon to the west of the main island, which could imply the Lands Between is not just the continent the game takes place, and actually comprises other masses of land. So there's that.

I am actually impressed how great this game looks (but certainly not runs) on 1440p at max settings. Some of the scenery (like a foggy forest or a forest at dawn) is just absolutely breathtaking. The open world heavily reminds me of Dragon's Dogma, and it feels ... fine to explore. Certainly not the worst offender in that genre, since there is no fucking level scaling, and the world just doesn't cockblocks, and tells you to go back. The scenery at the beginning is kinda underwhelming, but I knew that it would get only better as soon as I found the elevator down to Siofra's River.

Boss difficulty is pretty nasty, and I'd say that Margit at low level is harder than most bosses in Dark Souls 3. This guy is completely unpredictable in his 2nd phase.

So far I am having fun exploring the world and finding items for the build I want to create (Amazon = Spear & Bow, Poison). Crafting isn't that offensive either. Horse combat is jank, but tolerable. Haven' tested PVP yet, but I heard that it's even worse now for the invaders than ever before.

Also, I can't be the only one who has to think of
Oblivion
everytime I explore a cave. R-right?

I mean, this gives me huge flashbacks.

So i rolled over every vase or box in the tutorial. Imagine saying this isn't Dark Souls 4 lmao.

The fact the UI disappears automatically is kinda neat, btw.

Also, crafting materials? Really? Ewwww. And those plants respawn too when you rest. That's certainly going to help my OCD.

Lyric Suite FYI, b/c you mentioned something about taking a while how to two hand, something that wasn't immediately obvious to me is that, once you have your mount, you can swing with your left hand with the left shoulder buttons. lol it took me until hour 30 to realize that I didn't have to always swing with the right hand :hahano::dealwithit:

After the initial area, the game takes a very steep turn difficulty-wise, at least for me. Regular mobs rape me consistently and in some areas there are LOADS of them. I don't know if I picked the wrong area, probably not, but I feel that I'm leveling my char and weapons way slower than the game demands.

The game demands to throw your souls away in items etc and levels become very pricey.

I think of playing with summons everytime I fail, but I never do, it feels it would cheapen the experience.

Also, 35 hours in, I'm still with my starting armour, wtf?

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Right, has anybody been ever invaded by a human tryhard yet? Like ever? I'm 30h in and still nada. What gives?

Maybe invasions are hard coded for coop instances only? I've summoned a bro like twice.

Because you haven't found any or you haven't found any that you like? I'm still using the initial bandit outfit, but I've had new pieces drop and the initial merchant has the chain armor.
I have many drops, full sets even, but nothing suits me better than the vagabond one. Apart from some situational changes.

Yeah you can only invade when other coop. Has anyone found a reusable item for invading?

You can only get invaded during solo play if you activate an item found in the hub area.

You can turn it on and off in the settings, it was an option since maybe DS2.

Defeated Ancestor Spirit. Too easy for a boss with a mini-game attached to it but very atmospheric. I enjoyed how otherworldly this whole area was. The only negative aspect were the snipers who could spot me from a great distance. Got some Anor Londo flashbacks.

I am considering a fresh start with a new character. I might try playing a more classic knight + supporting spells setup.

Felt a bit underpowered with my sorc, so I went exploring in the red swamp for new magic as I'm still primarily using the glintblade the prisoner class starts with.

In the end, I found a staff and a spell which both require about double the int I have. So that's... something.

The exploration is quite good in this though.
