Beat my first boss, the guy in the cave with the wolves. I bought the round shield from the guy in the church ruins but at soul level one it doesn't help much (boss knocked all my stamina in one hit), so i just had to whip out my roll-fu skills. I got some straight sword from one of the guys with the torches which seems to have the usual overpowered move set, so it wasn't hard.

He gave me some shit that helps with fire mitigation. Are drops randomized?

I gotta say, i'm sort of liking the open world shit compared to DS3. I went down the beach, stole some flesh shit from a guy chilling around a bonfire and he promptly tried to go after me but i beat his ass. Then i looked up at those fjords with a castle perched at the summit and it was quite nice. The music is super generic but the pseudo-Wagnerian harmonies do help a bit with the atmosphere.

My problem is that i'm just compelled to check every nook and cranny. Maybe this isn't how you are supposed to do it but i can't help myself. Went down a swamp and while i was trying to kill some annoying furry dog a big dragon dropped so i noped myself out of there. But that was the only deterrent i found to just explore the shit out of everything.

Also, 35 hours in, I'm still with my starting armour, wtf?

This is Dark Souls. Starting gear can take you to end game.

Speaking of armor: is this like Dark Souls where it's actually worth investing in heavy armors (or at any rate they aren't useless if you want to use them) or does it use the DS3 system where armor does nothing and you might as well run around in tatters?

Regarding armour, I've found heavy armour to make me noticeably more durable in this one. I've also found it pretty easy to stay at medium load whilst wearing it as well.

It does seem slightly more useful than in DS3.

The difference in stats exist between light and heavy but it's negligible and armor can't be upgraded (as far as I know. There's sewing that can slightly alterate appearance and stats but it lowers the stats, along with the armor encumbrance) so just pick whatever fashion you want.
Even the heavy armors aren't excessively heavy in weight, though you'd need a little more endurance to wear them, the real need for endurance is heavy weapons. As a katana user, I have very little endurance yet I can spam weapon attacks and rolls for days, and stamina regens lightning fast, so it's not a very important stat for light weapon users, I think this game made endurance even more of a dump stat for most characters than DS3 did.

Poise wise, you might as well act as if you will never have any, only enemies can have it.

NO NO NO NO
I haven't tested it but I suspect it's like DS3. While armor doesn't do a LOT compared to ds1 or even ds2, being naked significantly worsens your defense even compared to wearing the armor with shittiest stats.
At least have something in all your armor slots, including head. Running naked is for the masochist.

u shuld shut ur fucking mouth

cant hear u just coasting by this ezmode game and putting rings on rannis fingers

hows limgrave? keeping the tree sent company? xd

The difference between your shitposts and Kruno's is multifold. On the one hand, he's often genuinely funny. Yours are just pointless and shitty. On the other, he also doesn't type like a spastic kid.

tbh the funniest thing in this topic is reading ur adventures on how much u suck to the point the game itself is closing doors to prevent u from shaming urself further :3

maybe u should ask for turn based mode xd

you probably wont stagger armored enemies.

I just fought Godrick a few times and I have to question how all the youtube souls personalities can talk with a straightface and somber voice about the deep dark lore in a game were some fat demigod rolls around like a drooling retard. I try to learn his moves and all I see is him literally rolling around or jumping around like there are eels in his trousers. I can even hit him from time to time and got him to face two were I got promptly incinerated the first time I saw it. I also have to run away every few seconds because he has of course what feels like a million fucking Ae attacks.

Right, right. Sorry. Forgot about that.

I'll be sure to wear an handkerchief in every slot.

Playing a righteous guy. Torn about how to interact with Sorceress Sellen, at the Waypoint Ruins.

It doesn't suit my character to be apprenticed to an apostate witch. I'm leaning towards killing her.

... but maybe she's an important character, and killing her only means I'm missing out on content. Any advice?

This is a From game so it's not really a full fledged RPG in that way. You really only need to ask yourself one question.

Do you want to learn sorceries? Yes/no.

I've found a couple of shields with passive effects that say they cause poison or bleed buildups. Do any of you know if this is when you hit enemies with the shield or if it's when enemies hit your shield?
I feel like enemies hitting your shield would make the most sense in this case, but usually it's only effects that can be applied through hitting that are listed.

Edit: Yeah, just tested it and it's only when you hit enemies. Lame.

u guys try co-op yet?
it's really fun, they made bosses get stronger with more players so it's still a challenge but co-op style

Bosses always got stronger when you summoned help. But they are still easier because the boss divides his attention between multiple targets. So you can heal or attack from the back.
The boss having more HP doesn't make up for that.

She does imply that there are consequences of associating with her but who knows.

actually i think bosses are harder with co-op in this game
they have way more aoe and if your summoned friend dies you're stuck with a boss that has double hp

they're certainly not easier with co-op

Did you play Dark Souls 3? Pretty sure it's a Karla situation.

It can be more of a challenge when the guy you summoned dies in 10 seconds and your stuck chewing through a doubled health bar on your own lol
Picking the right summon is also a skill. In DS1-3 you want to stay away from players in knight armor and/or sword&shield.

If there is one game where coop actually makes the game harder its cuphead. The bosses have double the health and unless both players are constantly hitting the boss which is very unlikely it usually means longer a fight then if done solo.
