People say that those faces are most likely the result of using a new facial animation middelware called faceware. Since people kept complaining about their bad animations.

My guess is that they probably have had issues with implementing it properly in their own proprietary engine. With the result that they now have decent animations but worse faces...

The more interesting issue is that Elex 2 has black NCPs, just like every other PB game before except Elex. So either Elex didn't have them due to budget constrains or it was a deliberate choice and their new owners requested them for Elex 2.

The preview version just received a 30 GB patch (!) on Steam. I'll check it out to see if it changes/improves anything substantial.

Preview version? Do pre-orders get access to this? Was planning on buying it pretty soon along with Elden Ring, but if I can play some already I'll just get it now. ELEX 1 has been GOTY every single year since time immemorial.

I mean, other than the "No wombyn PC", everything you listed there is valid criticism.

ELEX is liked despite, not because of, its user interface, visual presentation, combat system etc.
