I played Polish and it's ok. There are a few dialogues hard to understand, but overall you will be able to follow the goal.

It's definitely much better than the first ATOM RPG translation ;) .

I'm going to urge people to use the ChatGPT translation*, as well, as it's far better than the Yandex one. I haven't noticed any spelling or syntax mistakes, only a few cases of ambiguous wording and using the wrong gender for things (e.g. referring to fire as "he"). There are also a few ERROR messages I've noticed so far, such as when finishing the main quest for Mr. Kogan(after making the deal), which is a bit more unfortunate.

I've only played as far as Garage City, but it's pretty clear this mod is a step forward in classic Fallout modding. World building, consistency, graphics, all seem better than previous mods I've played. It's absolutely SHAMEFUL that this thread has less engagement than the Amazog TV show's, but that's just the Codex for you.

More significantly, it's a step forward in classic Fallout mechanical gameplay. I've found plenty of use for Science and Repair and even my high Sneak has been pretty useful. Some traits have been balanced, which is good. Getting EXP for carrying out a successful conversation is an excellent idea.

My main gripe so far is the high encounter rate. I've had 3-4 encounters in very short sequence, which is annoying and trivializes other sources of EXP. I haven't found any companions, yet, but maybe that's because I have a low CHA and Speech chararcter. If I do a replay, I'll definitely go with a talky type.

I'm still on the fence regarding factions, NPCs and dialogue. My impression so far is positive; there's a lot of subtlety in characterization and interwoven plotlines. Garage City is like a more fleshed out(and better) version of Junktown. Apart from that, I don't think the two main factions were made distinct enough, to the point where I felt more or less equally towards both. Maybe something was lost in translation, or maybe I haven't adjusted to the mod's vision yet.

I'll post more impressions when I'm finished with the game.

* EDIT: I've come across more error messages in my playthrough. Like a previous poster noted, they're mostly formatting errors like missing brackets and can be easily fixed with a bit of regex fu. In the case of missing lines, I just copy pasted from the Yandex translation. I'll be posting the fixes as I go along, here:

Awesome! I did a fresh re-install, seems we finally got the full version in English!

EDIT> slightly confused about step 6 below... so is it fine to run fallout2-ce.exe ? -( seems optional to use FSonara.exe) :S

  1. Download and install Fallout Sonora
  2. Download and unpack Dayglow DLC into the install directory of Fallout Sonora, created above
  3. Download your OS version of Fallout 2 CE and put it in the install directory of Fallout Sonora, created above
  4. Download the .zip file named sonora_eng_DLC_script.zip and unzip it in the install directory of Fallout Sonora
  5. Change the language setting of the fallout2.cfg file to ‘english’
  6. Click ‘Fallout II Community Edition’ (for macOS and windows and linxu) to play the game
Optional - if on windows, Fallout2.exe may be dropped into the install folder to play the game, or rename patch000.dat to patchDLC.dat and use FSonora.exe or FSonoraDLC.exe to run the game. Only FSonora.exe or FSonoraDLC.exe will give the correct game start

Ah word?
So you're saying the Extended version from last year, has the same translation, patch etc. as this new build?

From NMA;
1. sonora_eng_DLC_script.zip -
"patched" version, is used with a vanilla install of Fallout: Sonora and Dayglow DLC, and will also improve the dialogues, quests, and several aspects of gameplay through script fixes. This is the recommend version.

Extended version definitely runs alot better for me. The resolution is more optimal.

Any tried to patch or add the latest translation to the Extended version?

I've been trying to download the game via the magnet link in rutracker but the link seems to be completely inert. Created an account and everything..... Anyone else having an issue?

Edit: I was able to get it easily enough using the torrent. The magnet link still doesn't work for me.

Finished this a couple of days ago. First off, just want to thank anyone who was involved in creating the mod or the translation as I really enjoyed it. The main thing that distinguishes this mod, IMO, is that it really does "multiple quest solutions" well, especially with the main quest.

A few other random thoughts that I can't be bothered to organize into a proper review:

  • The translation was good overall. I remember two lines of dialogue that read as "Error" but they weren't essential. A few times, it felt like things weren't explained well and it may have been because I wasn't playing the mod in its native language but I can't really confirm. Most the time, I didn't notice that I was reading translated text. I won't comment on the quality of the writing because I was playing a translation but I thought the story made sense and I liked that for most of the game, the character's motivations in pursuit of the main quest are personal. It was more of a revenge tale than "save the world", to me.

  • This mod has a lot of skill checks. When it first came out, I had read some things that indicated that skill points are the character's most valuable resource. It is true that passing certain skill checks, particularly in Repair and Science, seems essential. But the mod has creative ways of lowering these checks and it didn't seem to me that any of the essential skill checks were too high. Taking perks or traits that increase a skill or a few skills by a set amount still seems like a total waste and I'm glad I didn't do that. I did take Tag! at level 12 to get my Repair skill up (I also had Small Guns, Speech and Science) and it immediately helped me complete a bunch of lagging quests. I also got Lockpick up to 100 without tagging. By the end of the game, it felt like I had put way more points into my originally tagged skills than needed. Knowing what I know now, I could have done just as well without taking Tag!. I didn't use the Gifted trait due to what I read but after completing the mod I think Gifted with an investment in intelligence is still the most OP trait you could take.

  • I really hated the way they chose to mess with the weapons skills, mostly because it took away all choice as to what weapons to carry. I took Small Guns, forgetting that they messed with the weapons skills. This means I was limited to pistols and SMGs and I would always have a pistol or SMG that was the best and uses the same exact ammo as the inferior choices so there was no decision to make ever. I like taking Fast Shot and combining with low AP weapons so this should have been right up my alley anyway. But the lack of armor piercing meant that certain fights needed to be bypassed or cheesed. This wouldn't have been the case if I had done more of a crit build but Luck was my dump stat. To add insult to injury, the most powerful pistol in the game, which does use unique ammo, isn't strictly tagged to Small Guns. The item description says that it uses a "unique skill" but doesn't really say how that skill is derived. You can get it pretty early on but when I first got it, enemies had to be in melee range in order for the hit chance to be high enough to justify using the ammo. I used it very sparingly but later on, I noticed that I had a 95% chance to hit at decent range and 85% at max range. My guess would be that your "Small Gun" skill plays a factor in determining what your skill with this gun is but I don't know for sure and don't know what else goes into it. I never found the 2nd most powerful pistol in the game. The best SMG was a new item added by the mod. It was better than the standard 10mm SMG but never felt very powerful. The high ammo capacity was nice. A late game area has some powerful alternate ammo for it but I found it so late that I never got to use it.

  • Stealth is pretty much required at times and I used Sneak/Stealth Boy more than I ever have - both to sneak past a stationary entity and to avoid patrols. I typically don't like "sneak around patrolling enemy" type game play but the spots where I felt I needed to do it were short and well implemented, considering the limitations of the engine they were working with.

  • The "DLC" becomes available at level 7 but I didn't get there until level 15. It takes place in an area completely closed off from the rest of the game and there is no world map in the DLC. At the start, there is a lot of annoying backtracking. It can eventually be mitigated by completing a certain quest but without meta knowledge, you will waste a lot of time running around before then. Overall, I liked it but it was of lower quality than the rest of the mod and near the end, I was itching to just finish it and get back to the main mod. It does give you access to some nice items and lots of XP. I went from level 15 to 18. The companion from this DLC seems cool at first but he's a detriment to have with you for certain important events. I left him behind a lot and maybe used him for one fight I could have done easily without him. He won't come with you when you leave the DLC area and by then I could care less because he just kinda sucks.

  • The two companions I found in the main mod were both temporary and will leave you when you take them to a certain city (same one for both of them). I think the intention for at least one of them is that you'll take your time getting him there. He was surprisingly useful in combat too. But I didn't have either for very long so I can't comment on how they react to events.

Hi, is there a way to change the aspect ratio/resolution when playing Sonora? I'm excited to try the new English translation, but I would like to change the non-ideal resolution before getting started. I forget how I changed it when playing Nevada a few years ago, but I know I did somehow. I tried yelling at the screen for a bit, and then I yelled at some swarthy, foreign-looking people passing on the street. Neither solution helped.
