Eye, fucking hell. Abilities with cooldowns, no inventory, unlimited ammo except for the rocket launcher, armor and items giving special abilities, no Time Units, cinematic kill camera, scripted plot-critical missions, single base only, reimagined aliens...

EXACTLY WHAT HAS THIS GOT TO DO WITH X-COM?

Yep, time to take this thread off my watch list.

Anyone who read this thread and still thinks this game will be anything other than some unholy FPSied, dumbed-down, cut-scened, glam-cammed, piece of shit of a "game" is dumbfuck dumbfuckio! But then again, PS3/ShetBOX owners seem to be out numbering everyone else here these days so maybe dumbfuck dumbfuckio is the new Codex standard.

What a surprise, the game will suck! Who would have guessed?

I don't have anything against lenghty, thorough tutorials that explain basic game mechanics. I welcome them. However, I expect the game to remove the training wheels after the tutorial stage and let me play on my own without any handholding. The problem with modern games isn't the existence of tutorials, it's that the whole game is practically a tutorial-level challenge as the designers are too afraid to let you fail.

It's a radically different game for the new shit crowd, so what do you expect? Of course they have to offer a thorough tutorial. That's okay, as long as they keep it optional. There's nothing worse than integrating the tutorial at the beginning of the campaign.

I'm still hopeful that it will be a decent game. Maybe a fool's hope but hey, if this game manages to semi-popularize turn-based games again I'll be happy.

I hope that one day history will forget this "re-imagined"abomination, while still remembering the magnificence of the original X-Com. For the time being however we can watch as the Codexian predictions of dumbing down come true. This trainwreck is going full speed ahead!

At least we have alternatives to play these days and we don't have to rely on AA(A) titles that try to recreate classics by raping them, putting their children through aggressive radiation "treatment" plus experimenting with random amputaions, then when grown up, claiming it looks just like their mother.

Hah, good luck. It will probably be remembered as the first and the best in the series, like FO3. Or serve as a "proof" that hardcore fans can never be satisfied.

LOL, I just realized these devs are going to feel like complete numbnuts when their streamlined popamole shit has to go head to head against the inclined TBS games that will be coming out of kickstarter :smug:

Besides there is still Xenonauts. It could become the game people actually want.

semi-popamolize, Alexandros.
Common, it isn't as though there aren't plenty of us who would leap at a game that was only semi-popamolized, and replay it half a dozen times (it took some time, but eventually those few of us who bore the slings and insults of being Alpha Protocol fans finally brought enough around to our side that people have stopped pointing and laughing every time we venture onto the codex - mostly, anyway).

And I still object to the popamolestation of the word 'popamole'! It has a specific meaning: refering to those games, where rpg, third-person or fps, where the gameplay has been ruined by over-use of cover, making the gameplay equivalent to the pop-a-mole games and rail-shooters of the arcade era.

Imho popamole "gameplay" is the worst gameplay ever known to man. There is nothing worse than that.

So this is going to suck, huh, I thought Firaxis, Alpha Centauri, not that shitty new fps x-com thing... might be good. Oh well. Someone should reimagine Enemy Infestation, I liked that game. Too bad my disk won't load up anymore.

So, the game is supposedly to 80% complete, yet they didn't manage to show some realtime gameplay footage yet. All we got was some action-y, fast paced PAX teaser. Not very trustful.

Also this thing runs on Unreal Engine 3 and consoles, so I expect rather small maps. Had the original X-COM small maps too?

They weren't incredibly huge. Although combined with multiple levels of height/multi-story UFOs they could take time to go through.

They were definitely large enough and TFTD increased them more, though I personally feel that the maps were too big in TFTD.
