Again, it was a bad choice of word for what it represented.
Eventually you become so well known that people know you merely by word of mouth, this is the magnitude of your karma.
The image you've cultivated is the +/- of your karma.

Attempting to shoehorn the definition of karma onto it makes no sense because it was a bad word to use from the start. Something like 'personal reputation' would have been better, which would have been more in line with the original Fallout anyways.

I really wanted to like NV and just couldn't. One reason was the engine. I hate how it looks and handles, all that jank, crashing lots of times, and worst of all, it reminds me of the awful times had in FO3.
Secondly, and this may be related, the theme park feel that all those games have. Everything's in walking distance, as compared to the actually vast wastelands of FO1 where most places of interest required days of traveling. Simulated days that pass by quickly, but still, time passes (and you're on a timer), special encounters may ensue. Yeah the new Fallouts let me quicktravel but I know it's just 3 minutes of walking.
We'll not have this same sense of scale anymore in new Fallouts unless Bethesda makes one where they pull a Daggerfall (and that could still be awful).
And a petty side note, the setting wasn't that great imho. Mojave desert probably looks like a wasteland even without nuclear bombs, so it wasn't that interesting for a Fallout game.

I don't remember anything about ten penny or FO3 in general (except bezt charactor, Moira Brown!), isn't that where you blow up Megaton?

I liked how Fallout 2 has the long (realistic) traveling between cities and then allows you to use a car later in the game which has to be used somewhat strategically before you get rich enough to buy fuel.

Alternative ways of traveling the world would be cool, like with boats or secret passages.

Does NV use fast travel only?

Not sure anymore if it has fast travel, assuming so since FO3 had it.. But you mostly can walk anywhere in real time with no (minimal?) loading time because it's all one map (except expansions which have their own). Advantages are that exploring is more fun and feels more organic, I guess, and it can be played as a walking sim, but downsides are the sense of scale is lost because the area feels much smaller and some trips are plain out tedious.

At least I think NV has no level scaling, so if a mutant bot fly downs you in two hits, it might be better to not go directly to Vegas and explore somewhere else first.

The emphasis on "open world" seamless travel has been a massive detriment to video games. I'd gladly trade a loading screen to get rid of all the fucking texture/LoD popins and various issues caused by streaming in large worlds. Can't believe how acceptable texture popins are in the year of our Lord, 2022.


The DLCs have typical Bethesda level scaling. Apparently generic Honest Hearts tribals carry Anti-Materiel Rifles if you go there above level 40. In the base game, level scaling mostly affects what items are available in shops.
I remember going to OWB early on and getting destroyed. Might have level scaling, but it has a level floor too.

The real nightmare is that the White Legs are Veteran Rangers in drag, being pretty much Veteran Rangers in all but their inferior armor. Tough, hard-hitting fuckers

I've tried playing it twice now. I got pretty far this last time, mostly because of Sigourn's solid mod suggestions, but long before the end I got bored and quit, which is not a normal thing for me to do.

It's not bad, it's just...lackluster. The engine, or the implementation of it at least, is of course wretched and doesn't fit Fallout at all. The story is not very engaging.

Still, it's the first Obsidian game I've tried that I haven't actively disliked, so I guess that's something.

If I could have my Fallout dream game that's also first person, it would in fact be a lot closer to STALKER series than Bethesda/Obsidian Failouts, except actually playable (maybe even without the need for a metric shit ton of mods).

You Bethesda fps stans need to fuck off. You guys are like fucking cancer. Most stupid people i know always liked FPS games and hated/had no "patience" for strategy or RPG games.

My opinion is that no modlist can turn New Vegas into a good game unless you already like the game.
And I'd rather play something else instead of wasting my time trying to make a bad game become good through mods.

Sucks that I spent so much time in a NV modlist, but eh. I've done worse.

Word. My former friend hated all turn-based and RTwP RPGs but he loved Fallout 3 and FPS.

A lot of you complainers are just bored of piss-easy difficulty of FNV, is all. Even with VH, it's not that hard, not for some veteran gamers and not a youtuber~

Thus I suggest you install mods that make the game harder.

Some of you complain about the world feeling small. For that, the solution is disabling fast travel and force you to travel anywhere on foot~ You will feel that the Mojave is wide enough~

If that's too slow for you, cheat in the Implant perk that provide 6 free turbo everyday that can be used for running.

I don't think it's a matter of difficulty. There's not that much combat in NV to begin with, and making it "harder" usually means making it more bullet spongy or more insta-death, none of which work well.
It's just not a good game for combat or exploration.

Boyo, the simplest one-mod-fit-all mod would be Harder Than You beta which modify combat behaviours. You are thinking this protectron look easy? It flashbang you and make your vision go black, thus literally disable your response for a second. You can try to blind-fire during that time but that's pure guesswork. And that's just one type of enemies that get affected~

But of course you dont know. When people said there's not much combat in FNV, it just mean they play FNV on console. Consolefags dont want to admit it, but pc master race look down on them with great justification.

Easy question to answer, is it a worthy Fallout game? Absolutely, I loaded some lore friendly mods and F:NV was my favorite of the ones I have played, I haven't played FO1&2 which I heard are the best in the series :cool:

The way to answer the question is by comparing NV to FO1&2, you can't answer the question without having played those!

But yes, it is worthy. The only reason this is even a discussion is because NV is not isometric. But it is worthy anyway.

What's the value of judging designs, when you can just apply third party man's work on it to remake it the way you see fit?
This is like saying game is good because it's fun with friends, as if that wouldn't apply to every single instance.

If I were to go with your mindset, it would be like this:

Dawg, FNV, at release and default design, has gobs of changes to fit console's low level hardware . A shitload of spawns get disabled because they fear the consoles cant run the game, which is a known fact and known example of how much the devs had to compromise. So yeah, default design that is run on console is nothing that worth revering about.

Second, deathclaws is absolutely the worst example to buff. WHat is there to buff? DT, DR, HP. They dont change anything in the way dc spawns behave. They act the same so it's a bad example of using mods.

You know what turn up on my mind from that video? SHIT player. Fighting DC in the open, the first thing you do is to cripple one of its leg so it can not run and use it jumping attack. They have a dog and PA-wearing helper so it's not as if they fear DC sudden close while aiming. If you can, drop a mininuke on the area because the splash damage can crit its limb and achieve this goal at first strike.

The most striking example of modding to change behavior is human enemies. If you use mods that provide them with enough tool, they can use a variety of tactic to dazzle your poor mind. The melee will throw out their grenades first before coming close. They dont have to stop and loot their fallens' corpses for different weapons because they already have something else. If they equip with shield (Fallout New California) striking their head will be difficult because bucklers protect that weakness unless you can stagger them or change different direction. All these are impossible on console, not just because of no way to install mods, but because all that effects, all that AI calculations will drive the poor consoles to their knees. Dont boast about your consoles' experience~

Your objection to judging a game with/without mods is two decades out of date. These days we judge a game by its overall content, mods and all.
