Some other good winter themed games:

Lords of Midnight
Doomdark's Revenge
Secret of the Silver Blades
Aleshar: World of Ice

And put Winter Dreams by Accept on your prefered music box.

Aaaahhh... Icewind Dale !

This game is quite familiar to me, for years I have wandered its passages, studying every item, commiting each trap to memory. Perhaps now, in the replaying of it, I shall at last find the satisfaction I seek.

Played IWD 1 already in the current decade, might give a spin to IWD2 out of curiosity.
It would be good if it were turn based.
There was a project where some folks tried to make IWD in the ToEE engine.
As most promising works - they ended in vapourware.
We can't get nice things.

I had a infinity engine related dream where a fighter/thief in studded armor was escorting 4-5 level 1-2 mages in a sewer. The mages had darts equipped and 10 ac so really squishy and apparently weren't casting spells. Thugs in a group of 3 with shortbows were constantly spawning out of thin air shooting my team but apparently had garbage aim and were vanishing with ease as my team moved down the sewer corridor. Then out of nowhere one of the thugs crits the tank fighter/theif for 38 hp and my reaction is WTF I immediately rage quit sleep wake up 2AM in the middle of the night pissed off I ruined my sleep due to a incredibly stupid dream.

Moral of the story don't play rpgs.

Beautiful weather outside. Must suck living in a tundra.
The thing with weather is that it's Outside, and more importantly, never makes up its mind. I find this constant indecisive flipflopping annoying. There's nothing beautiful about it.

Icewind Dale was what cemented my trend in RPGs of naming the party after my siblings.
>Mom: Cleric whose always sacrificng herself
>Dad: Wise monk or wizard
>Me: either the straight edge hero paladin, or the evil, coward wizard
>Brother 1: Retarded Fighter
>Brother 2: Twink Fighter
>Sister 1: Edgy wizard

I fired up Icewind dale and BG2 the last few days. The cringey dialog in BG2 killed it for me. Icewindale 1 is superior.

There's greatness in simplicity. A good writing style that gets information out is underrated. Most games try to make the writing better by adding more of it, unfortunately it kind of works. Most people consider IWD to have a bad story while they praise BG2s writing and story because there is more of it. Speaking to the priest in EastHaven about what he thinks of the man who sacrificed himself to the demon horde is always a treat. I talk to that guy every playthrough. The writing style / prose in IWD fits the setting so much more than the writing in BG2, or most other games. People just don't appreciate writing styles.

At the very least, if you don't like the writing in IWD it's over really fast.

I found the dialog to be much better in IWD. Man its awful in Bg2 especially the companions awful.
