As far as racing games go, they either go full arcade or full sim autismo. No middle ground.
This one tries to - it's a bit similar to the old classic Street Rod, with similar progression mechanics where you build your dream racing car from the ground up,
replacing everything with premium parts, bit by bit.
Mechanical work in the garage is pretty involved, but not anywhere near the autismo levels of CMS.
Also, it's got a pretty detailed damaged model, not in terms of graphical presentation, but when one of your struts breaks, you will see it.
Looks and plays janky, the production value simply isn't there if you were to compare it with the likes of Forza;
heck even the older Dirt rally would look spectacular next to it, but it's still being updated and the gameplay's pretty good.
This one always reminded me of the meme - we've got Alpha Centauri at home. It's a bit like this - an attempted reimagining based on the Civ4 engine.
Basically a glorified mod, but with a couple of twists - you start off competing for lebensraum against a bunch of familiar-looking factions,
clearing a path through local wildlife with flamethrowers, but as the endgame unfolds, you find yourself defending from a full-scale alien invasion.
So why not just play AC? Perhaps a more modern engine. For me, I prefer the combat resolution lifted from Civ4, which feels a bit less random.
This one's a Wh40k Diablo clone, which is basically the long and short of it. Has some innovative mechanics, like letting you customize your healing flask effects and adjust drop rates for specific loot types vs. game difficulty.
It gets repetitive rather quickly, but combat is gratuitious enough and the atmosphere holds. Stepping in to purge nurgle infestation with a flamer feels like what the genre should be about.
Also, their take on Chaos Marines reminds me a bit of Diablo's original Doom Knights, so they got me here right in the memberberries.
Worth it with a big discount. Regular asking price, they've pulled out of their asses.
