tl;dr mondblut likes it so it can't be a hybrid, so shut your dirty mouth
When the goal of the campaign is conquest/liberation, then yes. Sadly, most of cRPGs had removed all political/command stuff from PnP RPGs instead relying on ridiculous save-fail-load behaviour of players for achieving absurd goals with a 6 character party. Were RPGs always about map control as well?
The secret (indeed, the entire premise) to an "in before" joke is to write it before it's explicitly mentioned:*In b4 kickstarter plug*

3 questions.
- When you say "BEST features", exactly which features are you talking about? Because that can vary from person to person.
- On the Strategy game side I saw Kingdom building and management, and on the RPG side I saw questing (will these be dynamically generated based on the events going on in the world?), character development and classes, but what else is there?
- What makes you certain if said "BEST features" will mesh together well?
CODEXIA!Tales of Ilyria, Legends of Illyria, Alphadia, Grandia, Symphonia ... for fuck sake, stop with the shitty world naming.
Hi, I’m Arik from Larkon Studio, a game developer company.
We’ve just completed our offical trailer for “CivCraft”, a new cool and innovative game with a completely new concept.
We would love to hear what you think about it before we get started on our Kickstarter project and launch our Alpha release.
“CivCraft - Legends of Ellaria” is a sandbox game, with a combination of full first person shooter with features from other game genres, such as RTS and RPG. The result is an entirely new game that affects the player’s whole gaming experience.
We applied for a green light at steam and we already have more than 2000 voters! We want to keep on expending our community and we need your feedback and support!

Man, it sure looks like a piece of shit but I'm surprised that it doesn't look like a vapourware anymore, so good job. The graphics are painful to watch, especially as the trailer is supposed to be epic but it's more cringy instead.
I don't understand what's gained by the mesh of different gameplay styles and I really fucking doubt you can make them good enough, because if I want a good RTS (not only game-play wise but also UI, AI, graphics etc.) I have plenty to choose from, same as with every other genre.
I don't want to be too much of an asshole so I want it to be good, it's a win-win for all of us.
What interests me is this:
Can you describe a specific situation that highlights and explains the use of the different styles and the advantages of doing so? Just a quick but specific example of a game-play situation (or at least your vision if it if it's not possible to do yet).
On your website you describe it's possible to switch perspective at will but that means it should both be required and supported by the game, cuz I don't wanna play an epic battle in the 1st person action game style if the graphics and animations are shit and my soldiers are gonna get themselves fucked without a direct control and I don't wanna play an RTS style if the UI and unit AI aren't good enough. At the same time there have to be advantages to doing so. What this basically requires of you is to make a good FPS, good RPG and a good RTS.
I seriously don't understand what could possibly be a good element to take from Skyrim and Minecraft..? Crafting? Or what?
I can see how this could be really good but I seriously doubt it's even possible to do, especially with that shitty looking engine and horrible models/animations I think the FPS part is doomed to be useless.
Good luck to you, I hope you make it great and make me feel ashamed of my posts!
1) By “BEST features”, we mean the best features from popular games like Skyrim, open world games, such as Minecraft and army management RTS like total war series.
We have a long list of these features, and we mention some of them in our site, with even more on “planned features”. In reality, you can experience CivCraft’s fantasy RPG features by having a full FPS with dialogs and quests that can be taken from the very same NPC’s in your kingdom (or other faction’s NPC’s), and the RTS will allow you to fight epic battles, build cities and expand your kingdom. Obviously we won’t have every possible feature that any game had, but CivCraft - Legends of Ellaria will have more than in some other games, and will back them with a solid storyline and a good gameplay experience.
2) Yes, the questing, locations and NPC’s will generate dynamically as you progress, but it won’t be linear and won’t feel the like the same as the previous one. Every time you build a city, enter a cave or a ruin, or talk to an NPC, they will have a new set of quests, dialogs and setting, as each quest or location is different than the other one. Other than that, there is a storyline with different rifts (dimensions) to explore, and there are many side stories and other factions with diplomacy and quests... Well, of course, if you don’t like diplomacy, you can always skip that part and attack... There are other things, like crafting items, shaping your army, siege weapons, mages that are a “one man army” (but expensive to keep) and the list goes on and on. But our most important feature is the platform of CivCraft - Legends of Ellaria; We will support modding, and independent developers will be able to complete the parts that we may have missed out, just like in Minecraft, Skyrim, Kerbal Space program and other modding based games.
3) Nothing is certain, and we hope to “mesh things together” as best as possible. However, as a gamer, I've played many video games which attempted to make an FPS/RTS hybrid. The common mistake of these attempts was that they have tried to create two games in one, instead of a good game with another to back it up and increase it’s potential. The other mistake was to pack these hybrids with so much functionality that most of your game experience is just to learn how to play them. And so, the first thing we did before developing CivCraft - Legends of Ellaria was to design it’s game play and concept. This actually took a while, and we have set some very strict rules so the gameplay won’t be too hard, complicated or over-kill for the gamer. I can honestly say that with our design and with our D-Map game engine concept, CivCraft - Legends of Ellaria will be a great game and a new concept.
I hope we will get your support
