stuff
Agreed and seconded, except the ambushes and the railroading, don't care about that one way or the other, personally didn't have problem with any of that.
I'd add a few things myself:
- reintroducing the positioning system would be the first thing I'd do, if it's actually doable in any practical way coding-wise
- I'd also try to figure out ways to awesome up the magic skills progression, the expert-master-gm ranks only give you better penetration power which is useful but seems a bit dry as a reward for all the effort; previous MnMs were superior in this respect
- this would be probably a task for an extremelly enthusiastic modder with plenty of time but the itemization would benefit immensely from some fresh new ideas. Again, I'd try to awesome up the relic ranks a bit (the bonuses from higher ranks are good but again just stats increases which is a bit dry), definitely replace the pidddling magic dmg effects on weapons with something more substantial, increase the status effect chances (3% chance is as near irrelevant as makes no difference) and generaly make the loot less Diablo and more MnM
- seconding twice the minimap scroll suggestion, also in some places the background color of the explored areas is so dark it's indistinguishable from the unexplored ones
- I would second the idea of removing difficulty variation, don't like it either but I can hear already the wailing and moaning of thousands of voices from all corners of galaxy. Hell, even supposedly hardcore Codex grognards like Roxor found the game too hard, what about today's kids, newcomers and newbies? I'm afraid the difficulty variation is here with us to stay
EDIT: Oh and I didn't feel like playing again either after I finished but that's normal for me, I rarely play the same game twice in under a year. But I'm definitely looking forward to play it again in a year or so, with patches, mods etc.
