The "visual feast" that's supposedly better looking than Wilds:smug:

Not only isn't MHW better looking technically, it also has far, far worse art design and direction.
Here's World :

Here's Wilds :

sure it can look "better" but not nearly enough to justify the peformance tax
I'm running world on 1440p stable 60 everything maxed out, while in wilds I have to use upscaling to get shitier sub-60 performance
also please use reshade and clean up the damn fog holy shit

- performance wise I am blessed with good rig, 5800X3D and 4090 so I am never dropping below 60fps usually hovering over 80-100 with framegen but as mentioned in my post above it is stuttering non stop and game doesn't look good most of the time. Plus technologies used in game are clearly broken when they have issues non stop with loading textures etc.

So, am I supposed to praise the Lord that it doesn’t drop below 60 FPS too often on a 4090? Then, at what resolution? I’ve seen people getting terrible performance on a 5090 at just 1440p. Are you using the high-resolution textures? Don’t lie—once you enable them, performance becomes abysmal for everyone. And adding even a bit of ray tracing makes things even worse while barely showing anything on screen. Maybe there's a higher poly count, but I see nothing that puts me in awe.

Of course, it’s just the beginning, and I’m only a few hours in, but you’re greeted by a brown environment—everything is brown, even the people. The gameplay is so easy it’s obviously designed so that absolutely everyone can finish the main story. It wasn’t like this in previous Monster Hunter games.

i play on 4k oled. yes i did use them i managed to fix stuttering:

- use news direct storage dlls
- use high resolution instead of very high textures
- use special K and switch off relfex to fix reflex being broken

Now i get smooth frametimes without any stuttering.

IDK what you are playing but base game low rank is harder than both world and especially rise.
So, 'high resolution' instead of 'very high res' means you're not using the texture pack, not playing at max settings, and already tweaking settings down on a 4090 while using frame generation and DLSS? That's really not impressive on their part. Of course, you're not using it—because it doesn’t work for anyone. People are too complacent with Capcom; the game is full of texture pop-in, looking worse than a PS2-era texture, with plenty of visual bugs. It feels like the alpha version of an AAA game right now.

Something that does make the game far easier--NPC support hunters. Were these in Rise? Now when you launch an SOS flare you get 3 bot hunters who join and fight with you. I have no idea how much damage they're doing, but they never cart and they actively heal you, and they don't count against your earnings for the quest. Are these guys only in Low Rank? Talk about game journo mode.

I enjoyed pick up groups in World for years but these guys kind of ruin it.

You could bring follower NPCs on quests in Rise, they were introduced with Sunbreak. When the DLC launched they were restricted to follower quests and surveys, Capcom updated the game to allow you to bring them in any master rank quest. IIRC you had to raise their 'relationship' status to a certain amount to unlock them and you had to select them before departing for a quest. I dont know if in Wilds they are random generic hunters but in Rise they were NPCs that were part of the story or that you would meet and talk to around the hub.

AFAIK there's a setting to restrict SOS flares to human players only.

I looked for it and didn't see it. I saw a bunch of options limiting their tactics like no mounting. I'll check again.

when you talk to the handler you can set the SOS settings as one of the primary options.

I have no technical issues playing in 2560 × 1440 with a RTS3070Ti but ... the game is boring as fuck.

Honestly, I hate the paki kid and his story and the tribes and ...

Managed to fix MH Wilds for me. Everything from shitty stutters to muddy look without removing volumetric lighting (which means other weathers look good too)

Fix for muddy volumetric lighting:
You need SpecialK working with latest binaries. Then once you install it and swap for latest binaries in appdata/local/programs/speciak you set in steam launch options: SKIF %COMMAND% so it will launch via specialk everytime you hit play. Then you set up reshade inside of specialk. via this mod description. Once you do that you download that mod reshade profile and enable it in in game (you need to turn on reshade in speciak menu), it is reshade but it is not simple recolor as volumetric fog now has a distance to player.

Before (muddy shitty loook):
hp5CAiX.jpeg

After: Notice that you can actually see lightshafts now which you couldn't earlier !
Ho3Bc9W.jpeg

Before: WTF is going on with such bright fog and washed out colors ?
9G41nPR.jpeg

After: you can actually see detail now:

Fix for reflex stuttering.
There are two stuttering issues actually one is due to textures and other is due to broken reflex implementation by crapcom.

Reflex is simply broken it has debug frames in it that cause CPU to overload and cause lag evenly that feels like major stutters even running at high framerates. Moreover even if you don't use it game apparently still runs its script in background causing major frame pacing issues.
In order to fix it you need to install above SpecialK and in SpecialK options you need to switch off reflex via:
Frametimelimiter >> Advanced >> Overrride game reflex mode >> Reflex mode : OFF

Before fix, you can clearly see major stutters.

after fix, straight clean line:

Fix for texture stuttering.
You need to download latest Direct Storage dlls and put them inside game root folder. Once you have that in general streaming of assets will improve once you get into game and most of assets will load. This does not prevent completely stuttering but it improves it in major way. With it I can actually use highest texture pack dlc. If you have something worse than 4090 i advice running game on high.

After fix with highest textures on max.

Sorry for bright picture but sharex can't capture correctly hdr. It is first base camp with highest dlc textures. That place used to be stutter fest, now after initial loading frametime is completely flat.

If it had better performance, I'm sure the number would already be much higher, even forgiving the lame story with a lot of forced woke elements.

Well, seven star Tempered Gore Magala gave me my first quest fail. Guess it's time to sort out my defences, cos that motherfucker hits like a freight train.

Just don't use them. Elden Ring is also piss easy with summons.

Not bad. This is a nice middle ground between removing the volumetric fog entirely or keeping it on. Even I can admit it looks better, wonder what the other seasons will look like though.

Gore is fine since he was in a trailer, but can you spoil any info about secret monsters going forward? Since you're fighting Tempereds, I assume you must already be at the endgame. The story is so drawn-out that a lot of us are barely out of Low Rank.

Yeah, sorry, I'll spoiler HR and endgame stuff from now on.

The structure of the main quest is so bad it truly beggars belief. They made this giant open world and yet the main quests give you almost zero opportunity to explore it. It's like they were afraid of their own design so they allow you to skip it. What a waste.

Game desperately needs a sandbox mode that eliminates the main story entirely. I just managed to break free of the scripting enough to explore oilwell on my own, found an optional quest and fought a new monster before it was introduced by any story. This should be the whole game, just pepper the story quests throughout the world like any other open world game, and let the player explore on their own.

I am confused. You don't have to "break free" of the story. After the first few missions and unlocking every region you can go on an expedition at any time. You also have multiple optional quests gradually unlocked that allow you to fight everything you've fought so far.

I do kind of wish the quest structure was more similar to World's, as it had a few stopping points that made it clear that it's OK to stop and smell the roses. There were even parts where you could choose fight the next 2 or 3 monsters in whichever order you wanted. With Wilds everything feels quite urgent all the time, so it's easy to feel like you're being railroaded.

Other than Gore Magala...

...tempered Arkveld is another fun, reasonably challenging fight. Does enough damage to prevent you from just facetank everything, but isn't a damage sponge himself, so as long as you hit your openings, you'll be fine. Has only one bullshit attack that I haven't figured out yet.

Tempered Rey Dau on the other hand was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe at eight stars he'll put up more of a challenge.

Did you actually try? Quite a number of times you are prevented from doing anything but following the story. You can start optional quests, but you can't leave and go free-roaming. I know, I tried. If you try to leave the area you're in your character will hit an invisible wall and say "I need to talk to [NPC]" etc.

I don't know when all regions are unlocked but I am in chapter 2 and only just reached the cold area, and I'm still on the railroad, after 12ish hours of play. That's not "the first few missions" that's a huge chunk of the game.
