I think this franchise has jumped the shark way too many times plot-wise. Wasn't Liu Kang dead? How did he become a god? Absorbing the powers of that Goddess of Time fuck-ugly bitch or something?
Hopefully the girls are cute again this time, unlike the previous game's ones that had butches around.
People play fighting games for the plot? Seriously?

Here's a question - why would Mileena even exist in a timeline created by Liu Kang? And having good relations with Kitana on top of that ?? People seem to be forgetting she's an actual abomination created with black magic.

Mileena was created by Shang Tsung. Shang Tsung was still running around in Liu Kang’s rebooted universe. Shang Tsung probably created Mileena for similar reasons and she turned.

Do they have a plot explanation for how the MK characters are able to fight Homelander? I imagine most of the fights would go something like this:

They can't use the "weak to magic" bullshit like they did with Superman. Homelander is not weak to magic. He's weak to titty milk.

Died then became one of Quan-chi's revenants. Raiden defeats him but realizing that the bad(der) guys wanted them to kill each other, instead of FINISHING HIM he merges with Liu Kang and he becomes the fire god. Liu Kang then says "Your ass is GLASS, Kronika!", punches her into many pieces and takes over the sands of time.

The reboot is probably meant to address the convoluted plot, hopefully they will have enough willpower to leave the old plot as some vague background instead of making it an important thing referenced all the time, rendering the reboot useless.

lol, lmao

In MK vs DC it was not just 'magic' - merging of realities caused power of Superman being redistributed over Kombatants so Joker became stronger that Deathstroke, Shang was able to defeat bloodlusted Liu Kang etc.

That leak looks fake anyway, Cage is in main rooster so there would be no point in having him again as Kameo. Then, TWO Superman clones as DLC? It's just bullshit.

Some Capedudes better than Havik, Kira, Kobra, Onaga, Ashrah, Shujinko, Darrius, Dairrou, Hotaru, Frost. Kenshi, Blaze, Hsu Hao, Drahmin, Moloch, Reiko, Sareena, Li Mei, Taven or Daegon?

If you don't get 3D era then you don't get MK at all.

Merida, again
I think that by know we can all be sure that NO ONE wants the 3D era MK characters. They will continue to pad the rooster with guest characters from movies and the DC Universe. Or at the very worst make original characters.

ITT niggas arguing about the story in a fighting game (with multiple timelines and reboots).

LMAO!
Because that and the gore is the only thing MK has going for it. The FGC in general considers NRS games as absolute trash, so gameplay is not worth discussing.

There's a huge demand for top characters of 3D era and if leak is true and we are getting someone as bland as Mavado via DLC then maim game should be already full of them - either as playable characters or as kameos.

Oh, and that kameo thing warrant us Motaro, it's too hard to implement him in 3D games but there would be no excuse not to bring him as Marvel vs Capcom style assist character.

Who exactly demands 3D era characters? ;d The most memorable out of all of them are Havik and Kenshi, all the others are bland copies of preexisting characters (both from MK and other franchises).

The storylines of MK have started to suck only just recently. Which is a shame since it coincides with it having more movies, animated series, and general side content than ever before. The original timeline was great and the Deadly Alliance/Deception/Armageddon ending to it was fantastic. Mortal Kombat 9, while not what I expected when it came out, was an enjoyable retelling from the perspective of a Raiden who failed at everything the original Raiden did not. MKX and MK11 pretty much forgot all that came before and decided to showcase the hip new millennial "combat kids" who use Instagram and crack wacky jokes and, worst of all, are part of the Special Forces who were always the most boring faction of them all.

And yes people want the 3D era characters. I want the 3D era characters. I whooped so much ass with Hotaru and I want him back. I dig the armor and weapon combo.

I liked Kobra of the 3D games because he was a shameless Ken parody and that was lulzy.

The way this announcement plays, and the name Mortal Kombat 1 does have me wondering if this won’t be a traditional 2D fighting game. They aren’t exactly opposed to changing up how Mortal Kombat plays in vast ways. The three PS2/Xbox era Mortal Kombat games are one way. They’re just coming off three 2D fighting game with MK. I could see Mortal Kombat 1 being more like a 3D beat em up starring Liu Kang, almost like a new modern version Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks.

That would excluded multiplayer and a VS more or anything. I mean Shaolin Monks has a multiplayer mode that almost feels like Power Stone, and games like Def Jam: Fight for NY and Urban Reign had VS modes too. But that could mean another big gameplay shift for Mortal Kombat. Or at least what in the past would’ve been played off as a spin-off title being sold this time as the new mainline Mortal Kombat title.

Like it kind of seems odd the fake Q&A doesn’t say it’s a fighting game, it just talks about a new fighting system. The trailer also seem Liu Kang focused; like these people chose or whatever the trailer says, and now you as Liu Kang must go deal with it.

And roster leak:

The partial character roster leaked by GameFAQs user CaptainKashup, and corroborated by known leaker r00000r, can be seen below.

  • Liu Kang
  • Raiden
  • Johnny Cage
  • Reptile
  • Kano
  • Scorpion
  • Sub Zero
  • Sonya Blade
  • Kung Lao
  • Ashrah
  • Nitara
  • Havik
  • Kitana
  • Mileena
  • Cassie Cage
  • Rain
  • One of the Cyborg characters
  • Shang Tsung
  • Kira
  • Hsu Hao

Additionally, it was stated that characters in the base roster can be used as kameos (Mortal Kombat 1’s wordplay on cameos). Therefore, according to the leaked information, all of the characters in the reveal trailer are also usable as kameos. There are, however, characters that will only be kameo, such as new entrants Kira and Hsu Hao.

The leaker, r00000r, mentioned that they only had direct access to a major piece of production material, and their information is limited to it. For example, they knew kameos are a part of the game, but had no idea what they were meant to be until now. They know who’s playable in the story mode, but do not know about characters outside of it. There are two major characters who are present in the story mode that do not take part in fights.

Regarding the story, it was stated by CaptainKashup that both Aftermath endings are considered canon here. There will be some timeline overlap, and a tiny portion of the story will take place in the past. Much like Liu Kang, Shang Tsung comes from his own ending from Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, though he is not the main villain in Mortal Kombat 1. According to the source, the portal that he uses is the same type of time portals that were used in Aftermath.
