Technically, it's not a reboot but a direct continuation. But it's a reboot.

The reveal trailer was probably the best trailer I've seen this year. Props.

This seems kind of like a weird way of rebooting things. Sure, they’re going back to the original, but this trailer just showed them killing off a number of characters people would want in a reboot.

Killing original Sub-Zero and Scorpion doesn’t really matter given Scorpion is normally dead anyways, and original Sub-Zero gets killed right after the first game and replaced with is brother. But I’m not sure they bring all the others back as undead as well. This trailer almost seems to be saying: We’re going back to the first game, back to the tournament, but we aren’t going back to all the original characters of the first two or three games.

They should give Sub-Zero 2 is MK2 tie-in comic look. In that he just wears a nice cool looking suit.

Kameo Fighters sound like tag partners in Marvel vs Capcom and Strikers from King of Fighters.

If they’re pulling something from Marvel vs Capcom, I wonder if they’re pulling anything else. I could see a return to the faster, combo heavy gameplay of Mortal Kombat 3 pulling in ideas from Capcom’s fast combo heavy Marvel related games.

Would that be well received by their audience? Modern MK has the slow combat of old, and 3 and 4 are often cited as the weirdo games in the franchise.

The Mortal Kombat audience isn’t exactly a gameplay first audience so I don’t think it really matters.

Although after the last two games, I could see a shift to something somewhat faster being welcomed.

Did you notice that Scorpion is now Lin Kuei? Watch his emblem.

As for main boss - he's obviously no Shang and If Liu is not stupid enough to let previous antagonists grow in power then the main evildoer will be Onaga or Havik.

The final boss of Mortal Kombat: Deception, and a joke character from Mortal Kombat: Deception. Two characters who are most likely not going to be in this game.

I’d guess the boss is probably Liu Kang. And the playable characters are a mix of MK-MK3 characters we didn’t see die, and totally new characters.

Post MK 3, the only characters I can see showing up are Kenshi, Shujinko, Ashrah, that stupid Bo' Rai Cho character, and maybe Nitara because of the movie...even though she’s only there to kill off a character nobody gives a shit about. And even then they’d probably most all not even be playable characters other than Kenshi.

Trailer is a little cringe tbh

All the 3D MK games look like ass, gimme rotoscoping or live action motion capture (which was traditionally what established MK)

I thought the trailer was hilarious. MK story after the first game was always convoluted schlock, it used to be more about gameplay and actually murdering your opponent at the end of a match. I'm not sure if that's still true given how hard they went into story stuff as far as I can tell.

I picked up MKX and 11 around Christmas for stupid cheap just to have a look at them and thought they were reasonably fun. The story stuff is hilarious though, like when Sonya Blade fights her daughter in a "military training" exercise to prove herself ready for promotion or something. I just about died when the daughter pulled out her side arm and shot Sonya in the face, etc. Definitely the most lulzy fighting game around. I think anyone who takes it seriously is not really getting it, it seems like parody to me.

Here's a question - why would Mileena even exist in a timeline created by Liu Kang? And having good relations with Kitana on top of that ?? People seem to be forgetting she's an actual abomination created with black magic.

I think they want to explore the psychology of previously evil characters turned into good ones. In her case, there is also all that stuff about sister rivalry and being the lesser child.

To respond to your question, she may have been created as a bodyguard for Kitana in place of Jade.

Shao Khan liked Mileena more than Kitana, lol. How is Mileena the "lesser child"? And even then, they aren't and have never been sisters. Maybe step-sisters at best while also keeping in mind that Shao Khan is not the biological father of either. Why would Liu Kang create Mileena instead of Jade? Literal nonsense.

You do remember the whole "alternate reality" thing, right?
Jade is in there, just doing something else. Probably.

Hey, I am just guessing, by the way, and I was replying to your specific question.

I have no intention to follow you if you intend to backtrack all the way to "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth..." though.

I think this franchise has jumped the shark way too many times plot-wise. Wasn't Liu Kang dead? How did he become a god? Absorbing the powers of that Goddess of Time fuck-ugly bitch or something?
Hopefully the girls are cute again this time, unlike the previous game's ones that had butches around.
