Old-school RPG gameplay

have to laugh at this

there is 99% chance this game has cinematic dialogue where everything is voice acted, romances and cutscenes, tons of sliders in chargen etc

which is literally the opposite of oldschool

lmao
? It's an indie game made by a bunch of Ukrainians.

Hmm, Steam page says turn-based, but I could swear that someone posted some early footage of the game using rtwp.

At this point I have no idea what the combat actually is, Steam says turn-based and on Discord they say it is action-heavy??

"action-heavy" sure sounds like real time, "Closer to" probably means either with rounds or pause.

They mean that it's turn-based but fast-paced and "visceral". These days you've got games that literally describe themselves as "turn-based action games".

Wanna Be the First to Play New Arc Line? Closed Alpha is Coming!
90f573e703cfdc21570155d711edd0185d5fd6cd.png

Greetings, esteemed Mages and Technologists alike!

Excuse our short period of silence, we have been tinkering with the technological marvels of game development. And you know how easy it is to lose track of time like that, it's almost like being under some kind of a spell.

Either way, this absolute laser-focus on work allowed us to make great strides forward in making New Arc Line. While the game is by no means ready yet for the full public spotlight, we will be running a closed, private playtest soon. We are at a stage when we need to gather feedback from a smaller group of players and fans, and we want you to be a part of it!

If you would like to be present even in these early development stages and leave your mark on New Arc Line, we cordially invite you to join Fulqrum Publishing's Champions program - this will allow you to play the alpha version of our game soon, when we start our closed playtest. Just send an e-mail to champions@fulqrumpublishing.com and they will prepare you to embark to the New World!

Whether or not you join the Champions program, rest assured - we will have much more info and content to share with you soon. As a small token of things to come, here is an automaton to keep you company:

New Arс Line: Where Magic Meets Steel
90f573e703cfdc21570155d711edd0185d5fd6cd.png

"Welcome, travelers from the Old World… and beware!"

You are about to step into New Arc, a city where the arcane and the mechanical don't simply coexist but, in fact, clash in an epic struggle for supremacy; two titans on the edge of a cliff, each trying with all their might to throw the other off. A precarious balance that could be toppled by even a small push from an unexpected direction. Every nook and cranny whispers secrets here, and every step you take could either drown you in trouble or shower you in gold.

Magic vs Mechanics: When Worlds Collide
Forget everything you thought you knew about magic — in New Arc, it's not just a bunch of spells, cantrips and incantations. Here, magic is a faith, a bona fide religion with various branches and sects, each vying to pull you into their embrace. And the technologies? These range from billowing steam engines to bone-shaking electromagnetic gadgets. It will be up to you to select which you master, how you use them to change the world around you, and which side you join. Will you endeavor to make New Arc a technologists' utopia or help the magic users reshape it into a haven for the arcane arts?

New Arc: A Small Part of a Bigger Picture
Beyond the confines of New Arc, other cities and regions await, scattered across the continent of the New World. Journey through biomes ranging from enigmatic, fog-covered swamps to expansive prairies trodden by cowboys and gunslingers. Delve into mysterious crevasses where daylight doesn't reach, or scale the snow-capped mountain peaks where the echo of icy winds guard ancient legends. Explore underground labyrinths and celestial cities; every corner of the continent contains secrets, mysteries, and dangers.

The Spectrum of Life
Our world teems with races, each with its unique characteristics, cultures, and quirks. Numerous and diverse, from the prolific dwarves to pixies suffocating in the pollution of industrial cities. Take the elves, for instance: forget the stereotypical forest-dwelling, bow-wielding culture… the elven people of New Arc are the eldest of races, from which all others are descended. Though in decline after the collapse of their ancient empire, they chose not to fade silently into the night nor to take vengeance on the younger races. Instead, they focus on communicating with their ancestors in voodoo-like magical rites and restoring the foundations of their culture. Perhaps more than others, they are torn between progressive ideals and established traditions.

Of Sea Monsters and Politicians
Traveling through the New World, you'll face not just trolls, gigantic kraken, or dragons guarding their hoards, but you'll also get swept into the whirlpool of political intrigue. Elections here are not just a game of musical chairs but a battle of minds and ideals, where magic and technology become but pieces on the board of a grand game.

Your Decisions – Your Destiny – Your Game
New Arc Line is full of opportunities and adventures, and every action you choose leaves a mark on the map of the New World… and can lead to unexpected outcomes! Whether supporting a particular faction, developing technologies or magic, and then finding a balance between them… all of these decisions affect the balance of power and the lives and the fate of ordinary citizens. Be ready to take responsibility for your actions and expect many unforeseen twists in the plot.

Adventure Awaits!
In New Arc Line, every legend can come to life, and every fairy tale can become reality. Join us on this thrilling journey, where your choices, skill, and a roll of the dice determine the future of an entire world. We cannot wait to see what stories you will carve out for yourselves once the game launches. For now, don't forget to wishlist it so you don't miss more of these updates that are on the way, and if you'd like to hang out and chat with us, we will be happy to see you on the official Discord server!

Half of characters (LITERALLY) are black in Victorian SteamPunk setting. I'm laughing here, rolling on the floor and asking myself: How the fuck were all of you normalized with this? :-D

Ukranians are dying, their country obliterated, generation of young men in grave so that WOKE Kiev cucks can have FREEDOM to make games about niggers in suits with monocle in 19th century blimps fighting dragon riding Orcs from Ruzzia

I also like steampunk settings. I just how that this game would't go full equality cultism in the story and lore. The fact that some female NPC's look feminine is already positive imo. The fact that the narrative design sees inequality as a problem and not as something natural a huge point negative(4:30). Either way, the fact that they are developing such interesting game while under war makes me get very interested for the game.

Any news about the game launch DATE?

I know that asking for a specific date considering the invasion is not fair but any estimated launch date?

Steampunk stories have to perceive inequality as a problem and an important plot element - check Arcanum for reference (racism against orks and ogres, terrible working conditions in Tarrant factories).

Steampunk worlds are inspired by the historical background of the 19th century, the age of strong pro-equality, emancipation movements: socialism in Europe, abolitionism in America.

Being blind to the issue of rampant inequality created both by the heritage of feudalism and the industrial revolution would hamper the worldbuilding in such a game, turn steampunk into wacky but simplistic aesthetic, visually interesting, but intellectually hollow.

Thief -series managed just fine without any of that.

It's a stealth game where you break into guarded places to steal shit, not a rpg, where you mostly interact with people and factions.

The first missions of both Thief games kinda have class conflict themes ("break into a fat noble's mansion", Basso's girlfriend's indentured service contract)

inequality

That is poverty, not inequality. The fact is, people are not equal and the wealth produced by each is not equal too. Imo nothing created more misery than equality cultism, be it based on class, gender, race or wathever.

That said, this game dont fell as woke as the wall portrait. Woman looks like woman, the devs dont seem to have diehard hated toward breasts and believe that any form of sexuality is good except male straight.

About orks in arcanum, they are dumber and only useful for physical labor. Gnomes in other hands...

Inequality in meritocratic structures is easier to tolerate or even accept for everyone (because everyone can hope they'll get on top).

Inequality in the 19th century was anything but meritocratic. Most of your fate was decided by birth.

If you were born a peasant, there was no chance to get ahead of the rich landowners, who didn't do shit to earn their wealth and title, except for jumping out of a proper aristocratic vagina.

If you were born in a family of workers, there was 0,001% chance to get ahead of rich capitalists, who mostly inherited their wealth too.

The system was stagnant for the majority of the population, hence the popularity of movements like socialism or in occupied lands, of national independence (that were often united with social demands, in hope that it will be easier to introduce more egalitarian society once the occupier got kicked out - for example Ireland and Poland).
Imo nothing created more misery than equality cultism, be it based on class, gender, race or wathever.
Lack of any mechanisms of sharing wealth leads to the situation in which the rich only become richer while poor become poorer. The gap becomes impossible to cross. Majority of people stop identifying with such a social order and as a result you get uprisings and revolutions, often very bloody.

Of course usual suspects will whine about too dark tone of skin of certain characters but that's just the Codex.

And still they don't deserve contempt they're being treated with. And the terrible working conditions. Physical labor does not have to mean ultralow earnings and zero work security.
