These games are "playable" on keyboard in either scenario, but it doesn't work well as far as I've tried. When working with the camera, platforming and aiming, using charge attacks and moves that are diagonal (especially at higher difficulties) it just isn't intuitive. It wasn't designed with it in mind; it asks for the precision the sticks/that control scheme can give you. For example I beat DS1 when it launched on PC with KBM, but just the same I wouldn't recommend it (even if it was much easier than I found playing NG to be).

People have managed to do it, though I can't imagine it was fun: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLexZpyU5TDptYF_TnSIfqc7Pjc2F7A6oN

What about the mouse? Can you configure the xbox emulator to use it?

Has anyone tried this NGS2 Black mod for the PC version of NGS2? I wonder how the experience compares to the original NG2 on x360?

Also has anyone played the PS Vita versions?

Also WTF is this doing in the JRPG subforum?

Also it seems like every version of NG1 and 2 is inferior to the others in some stupid way, and I won't be content until I play every single one of them and decide for myself which one I like the best. Why did they do this?..

The NG2 black mod is currently the best way to play NG2. I'd argue it's better than base NG2 in a few ways. Unfortunately Xenia ran in slow mo last time I tried it on the Venice levels.

Interesting. Doesn't the mod work with Sigma Steam?
EDIT: Also, how is it better than vaniller NG2?

It's better in some ways because vanilla NG2 has some godawful truly garbage sections. And game's better with those removed even though the replacements are hit/miss. Plus auto aim on bows is a god send.

Non-cheat engine version of the NGS2 Black mod now supports Warrior difficulty
https://www.nexusmods.com/ninjagaidenmastercollection/mods/292

Tweaks you can make to exclude some of the mod's janky changes:
Restore Sigma HUD
Delete 05387.dat and NGS2BHUD.dll

Restore Sigma Chapter 2 skybox
Delete 3968-3969.dat

Don't include changes to music and lighting
Delete 0063-0069.dat

Restore bloom
Delete 00010.dat

Tried chapter one of this mod on warrior difficulty, because spawns are not yet fixed for Mentor and I haven´t unlocked master ninja yet.

Very good mod, but the ninjas are too grab happy compared to NG2 if my memory is correct.

Playing first NG for first time and it looks like it will take some getting used to. Getting absolutely destroyed by the boss on a horse in chapter 2 and this is on Normal. I'm glad I didn't pick Hard for first run as I was tempted to at first. Would've just had to restart. Should I be spending lots of money on potions, like I'm tempted to now, or save it for something else?

Having healing items at hand is always essential, so don't feel like you are wasting money getting them. You may want to save a bit to upgrade at least a weapon as soon as possible, which I think happens either in chapter 3 or 4, can't quite remember. I also recommend getting used to chaining super attacks by absorbing the essence enemies leave behind. The more you chain before finally collecting it the more currency you will gain. Never, ever let go of the block button until you need to do so, it will stop you from collecting essence and keep you safe when recovering from actions like rolling. Flying Swallow is very useful but try not to relay solely on it, at harder difficulties enemies will punish you hard if you spam it too much.

Take this with a grain of salt, as it was long ago I did that fight and it was NG Black, so it may be different in Sigma. Kill mages adds if they spawn, you can use the essence for supers. Stay in place and charge up your super manually and use it when the horse is close, if I remember right you will be invincible and do a lot of damage. I think for this fight LvL 1 super with the Dragon Sword is the best option, but you can experiment. Bow and Arrow I think can be used but is harder.

Oh just killed him, forgot I could use that Art of Fire Wheels thing. That alone melted almost half his health bar. And he dropped counter attacks scroll, cool. My op strategy of complaining about boss on internet seems as effective as ever. I killed him on first try after posting.

Nice, grats. Counters are great, specially against humanoids enemies, Ch 3 I think is pretty good to get some practice.

I forgot, there is one essencial mechanic that is good to master, you may know it already. I'll spoiler it in case you prefer to experiment and discover by yourself.

After any kind of jump, as soon as you land, holding the heavy attack button to perform a super will collect surronding essence faster than normal, almost instantly. Combining this with wall jumps, Quick jumps ( Light attack + jump on the ground) and enemy stomps will help you perform super chains easily without having to stop in place too long. Moving around constantly is key to survive

By the way I didn't really understand this. What is a super attack? The only thing that comes to mind is the charged attack from holding Y. But I don't see how I could chain it so maybe that's not it. "Chain super attacks by absorbing essence" confused me even more.

*edit" Oh ok you just confirmed that super is a charged heavy attack. Still not sure what that has to do with collecting essence or how to chain it. What you wrote in that last post seems overly complicated to me, hopefully I can get the hang of it. Anyway, it's 3 am here now so won't be trying it right now. Bed time for me.

When you kill an enemy they leave Essence behind (those floating energy orbs)
There's 3 colors, each give Ryu some kind of resource:
- Gold = money
- Blue = HP
- Red = Ki

As you've noticed, Ultimate Attacks take a long time to charge - like 2 seconds just for the first level and another 2 for the second/final level
However, if you charge and there's Essence lying around in the vicinity, Ryu will pull the Essence towards him and absorb it
When he does that, your Ultimate will be instantly charged to the next level - so you also need to absord 2 Essence orbs to get to level 2

Man these games are so good. I started Black on an OG Xbox but I might just play Sigmer on the Steam collection I grabbed, might even play Black on an emulator, apparently it works well.

Reached chapter 3 boss with zero potions and health bar barely above half, had to stop there for now because getting annoyed. I would have to backtrack through the mission to buy potions and then go through those little annoying platforming parts again. Sometimes I jump forward on platform like I should, other times I start running on wall which makes me go past the platform and drop down a level. Irritating. Camera is also quite garbage in this game. Things like that make me think I will only be able to play this in short sessions, to avoid getting too butthurt.

Yeah, it was made at the time when action games were still trying to figure out how to do cameras. The button to put the camera behind you is your best friend, use and abuse it as much as possible. The platforming requires some practice to get a hold on

The game is stupidly obtusely difficult and long as fuck. Not for people who get easily fed up with bullshit. With hard games like this, even small flaws get amplified when they lead to unfair deaths.

Itagaki: The testers who tested this game went nuts. At first it was easier, but when the testers said "this is too difficult", I made it even more difficult.

I'm not a platformer guy in general so it's just not my element. I remember dropping DMC 4 pretty early into the game because I decided I cannot be arsed to keep doing these jumping puzzles.

Well, then NG 1 may have the same issue later on. When you reach the later platforming puzzles, if you don't like them or feel bored by them, you may want to skip to NG2, it has much less focus on platforming and more in combat.

Edit: Although maybe it won't be that much of an issue in the Sigma version (the one you are playing) I think they removed some of the puzzles, so maybe there is less platforming in that version
