Just joined the party.. Very late. This game is so awesome! I haven't been pulled in an rpg like this for ages. It brings so many baldur's gate vibes.. The game is also kicking my ass pretty hard. I was exploring sycamore depths at lvl 2 and both skeletal campions and the giant centipede made me ran away crying

Challenging should be fine. You might get your ass kicked for the first couple of levels, but the difficulty generally drops as you go up in levels, if you don't fuck up the builds and specially if you do everything to maximize XP gain. There are some exceptions, but overall it should be smooth sailing once the Bloom hits, you might even feel the need to up the difficulty to Hard. This all stops once the final chapter rolls along, at which you point you should either have a fairly well optimized party or prepare for serious ass rape.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I went with Challenging but "Normal" enemies and it plays just fine. Hard at times but nothing too bad and certainly fun

The default experience sharing is borked. Here's how to avoid the lvl 2 blues:

Normal and kick it up when/if it gets boring. It takes a while to get your bearings, let alone to master it.

Improved Initiative (even though it's largely a waste if you already have High DEX)
plus Blind-Fight
is almost but not quite as good as Uncanny Dodge.

Two feats choices used up are almost as good as one class feature you get for free.

Awesome.

Awesome.

You kinda have to get Blindfight anyway for gazes.

DEX isn't nearly enough to guarantee going first. It can ameliorate the damage, but if you're charging a lot you need UD.

Fucking hell, the loot is NUTS in this one. Level 5-6 and you are FLOODED with magical items! It's a bit overwhelming at points

Now, that's what I like to hear. I am still Lv3 myself.

Same "criticism" that BG2 once received, right?
personally, its even better considering kingdom management is there as a gold sink for the vain trashlords among us

I really like this game, but this is the point where I've finally said, "OK maybe the encounter design can be a little cancerous at times."

Might be prudent to Delay that Poison until everyone forgets about it. See Invis is also a thing.

The main problem, really, was just the AMOUNT of shitty spiders put into a single dungeon. It felt really braindead.

There’s also a shitty Giant Slug, so there’s that. I just buff Okbo to Kingdom Come and let him solo them all while I go get some coffee.

Haplo, I built a Fighter dual-wielding Falcatas and yeah those new Fighter feats they snuck into the last DLC are super sweet. Basically +5 to Will, +4 to Reflex and initiative. Effortless is +2/+2 if you're in for that instead. Replaces Weapon Training on second weapon group so doesn't require using regular feats. Was always so annoying that the extra weapon-trainings didn't really do anything. Really rounds out the class nicely.

This is naked and the stats are messed up because you can't respec with equipment on (I made it finesse/slashing grace which evidently looking at melee attack bonuses doesn't work anyway) but you can see the initiative boost and the solid base saves before equipment. She'll have 15-20 x4 autoconfirm at level 20.

That's pretty cool.
Still a Fighter is kinda a tough sell for me. He can do decent damage... and with the improvements maybe also be half-decent at tanking non-touch attacks... but is neither very interesting to play, nor really clearly leads at these things.

High dex equals high intiative plus improved initiative feat and you will almost always go first.
Not even close. Huge amount of enemies in this game have +10 or more initiative. At best you will get yourself about 50% chance to go first which is a bad deal when your whole defense depends on not losing your Dex bonus to AC.
