A lot of players also won't ever pick her because of how late she arrives and being a rogue in heavy armour I think. I found that she makes a good gunner burst rogue however.

I've noticed that this industry is full of people who aren't really gamers, and that's especially true with people with any sort of creative influence over a game, like writers. Whenever they talk about their favourite games, it's always an easy answer which reveals that they aren't all that into games.

Among the Deadfire writers even Carrie Patel is a gamer which I wouldn't have expected. Paul Kirsch answered a Q way back figstarter end day which had convinced me. Kate D was playing PoE months before getting hired, not sure about her. Starks' also a gamer but not sure how her taste aligns with Obs RPGs. And that last guy who wrote Serafen majored in writing and was a QA tester for couple studios before becoming a designer/writer at Obs, which suggests he is a gamer.

Ofc most of them may not be hardcore gamers or may not have "great tastes" in Lacrymas' standards.

ok semi-serious question where the fuck are the leaked betas about this game?

I remember back in PoE 1 development when they started pumping out the Backer Betas every single fucking version was soon available in torrent places

does nobody gives a shit about PoE 2?

The beta can be extremely easily leaked, since there's a GOG version, the problem is that nobody really cares enough.

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
(psst this is kind of what passing a saving throw was in the IE)
Kind of. But as you of course know, there are plenty of spells with no save allowed or save for half damage.

There are some in PoE too. Not that many, granted, but still. Pull of Eora comes to mind.
Not sure about Crushing Doom, could be that it has a save, but as the effect is constantly re-applied, it's a pretty hopeless afair to defend against it.

For me personally, the whole "gamer" label has become pretty much some vogue shit for the last fifteen years at least much like how it's cool to be a geek or nerd now. Yeah, playing games technically makes you a "gamer" but there's like, different tiers of it. You have people that purely play AAA releases and are the sort that jerk off to Overwatch porn and defend microtransactions on Reddit or have GameFAQs bookmarked, then you have those that actually think garbage like PUBG is a game of the year candidate when it's really a clunky mess that looks like dogshit in a pudding cup and appeals to the bottom-feeders known as Twitch culture, and so on and so forth.

But somewhere along the line, the industry has been nearly expunged of guys that made games that while most likely being flawed and rough around the edges actually had some really great ideas to them. It used to be about passion and imagination and RPGs are the perfect outlet for that storm to be poured through in my view. There was this certain air of not giving a shit to game design and sticking to your vision that made it fun to experience.

Now everybody wants to wave their synthetic dicks around and go on some social/political tirade when storytelling or make sure everyone feels like a winner when it comes to playing something. I want the industry to go back to the floppy disc exchanging barely washed geeklords of the '80s and '90s, not the rainbow popsicle gorging gearboxes that do self-inserts and want to be known as inclusive first and making a classic third.

So on the positive side, Tekehu turns into a fucking were shark... on the negative side, he talks like noone ever would actually talk.

God, I hope these are just particularly lame samples.
Yes they are paul kirsch is better then that he wrote barik from tyranny while predictable and railroaded companion still better then all poe companions except durance eder and GM.

I can't wait to take absolutely none of the companions with me! Literally all of them sound awful even on paper! I'll probably take Ydwin, though, but she's a side-kick, or whatever the arbitrary designation was.

To be honest all the seven main party members look good/intriguing on paper to me.

Really interested whether the expanded relationship system will live up to the hype, I'll probably skip side-kicks for that reason.

Someone here has a fascination for edginess and infodumps I see. Avellone was a good writer back in the days. Now he's mostly a primadonna who likes inflating his ego through needlessly verbose, convoluted dialogues and characters that seem to have spawned from someone's what-the-fuckiest fever dreams. And the companions he wrote for PoE are no exception to this.

I'm not entirely comfortable with leaking it for mass consumption. Even though I despise paid betas, it was gifted to me and I kinda don't want to betray that trust.

The only thing to look forward is the Roxor review.

You should do one yourself!

You can start writing already, you seem to have been in the right mindset for a while now, it'll be ready for a day 0 review.

It's not even leaked on the Russian sites, something seems fishy to me, since even random indies have EA releases up.
