I almost never used consecrated ground because it was difficulty to play Durance as melee. As soon as I get Kana, his arquebus goes to Durance and Kana uses a war bow for the rest of the game. That way, Durance can be set to auto attack from the back line and occasionally cast. Playing him in melee just makes him die all the time, despite some recommendations to play him like that (even with long reach weapons like quarterstaff). What weapon did you guys use on him?

Arquebus, but I used his consecration and auras and stuff. I'd basically run him around whenever I had to like a quarterback going into the pocket and then backing off if it started to crumble. I actually really hate the game's AI and engagement mechanics that causes things like the totally not vampires to run in rings around your characters and continually attacking them and your back line. I don't know if they still do it, but it's the most retarded behaviour I've ever witnessed in one of these isometric RPGs.

i'm struggling to learn the system. I don't know why shit just doesn't want to stick into my brain.
Its 1d100 the system bro, just pump the numbers you absolutely need to the detriment of everything else and you will be fine, all rounders will just come up short in everything.
Play with a party of cripples that each can do 1 thing and you will succeed, you dont need 5 dudes to barely fail at everything, but 5 dudes that succeed at one important thing each and just have them do that one thing the entire game.

Since i'm using the pre-writter companions, i will plan a build for them when i get them.

For now i'm just trying to get past the character creation screen lmao.

So i want a pally tank, shiny heavy armor guy with healing and support. Typical fair. So basically i want to focus on Might, Constitution, Intellect and Resilience. The high Intellect already ruins the concept i had for him but i guess i just gotta roll with it as nothing in this game makes logical sense from a realistic point of view and bitching about it is beating a dead horse at this point.

The question now is how much i want to dump Dexterity and Perception.

Also question: i assume the AI in this game is like in the Infinity engine games. That is, they will ignore the tank and go straight for the squishies, attack of opportunity (or whatever it's called here) and all. In D&D doesn't matter because tanks are also the main melee dps rolled into one. If i focus purely on defence, i hope i'm not going to get into a situation where all the mobs will just ignore my main toon making the build pointless.

First of all, you don't need "a tank". Second of all, paladins aren't the best at being one even if you do decide you 100% want to go for your ideal MMO party. It's almost pointless to focus on might as a tank, even though self immolation is good, but you'll be so overpowered at that point that it doesn't really matter. Keep resolve and con at max 10, a bit lower won't hurt either. Dex, Int, and Perception will help with the support thing, but you'll still be somewhat slow due to the heaviest armor, so maybe dump dex. A human Bleakwalker dual-wielder would be a better choice for a frontline fighter imo. One of my playthroughs was with one and it was a cool build, not gonna lie. I had a "classic" paladin tank in my Skaen Priest playthrough, but I found it extremely underwhelming and underperforming.

My understanding is that pallys aren't as good as fighters because of the engagement thing but i have Eder for that (Elder? Eldar? what's his face). The pally was supposed to be the boss meatshield.

Unless what i read is false and i have to start from scratch.

You can get extremely high levels of defenses with a Paladin due to Faith and Conviction, but that is true even if you don't build it as "a tank". If you focus too much on defense, you double down on what paladins are already good at while neglecting everything else and it's just a static, very boring playstyle that isn't even needed and just underperforms.

Well, since Swayer wants to bend me to his will, i wanna to try to bend the game to my will instead.

If i go defence, it will be sword and board. If i go dps, it will be two-handed no dual wielding stilettos or any of that faggy shit.

Sword and board paladin - underperforming and boring
Two-handed paladin - no idea? The class doesn't really seem designed for this, but I've never tried it personally.
Dual-wield - yes, very good. Sabres are the way to go, though, not stilettos.
Pistol - yes, surprisingly good support. Pallegina is good for this. Use with St. Garam's Spark
Archery/wands - ??

FWIW, I completed PoE on Path of the Damned pre-nerf with a sword and board paladin.
If a paladin's mechanics mean that dual wielding is better than sword and board or two handing in any game system, it means that the class designer is shit at his job of designing a paladin.

Don't get me wrong, you can make a somewhat viable (i.e. an actually valuable party member) sword and board paladin, but it requires 3x arquebus swapping and high-end items. It's not a tank, though.

I'm not saying you can't complete the game with a classic sword and board paladin, you can. The problem is that there are much better ways to build a paladin and you are wasting the potential of the class while playing the most boring version of it.

Currently, i want to play a Paladin tank, classic sword and board kinda deal.
Best tank I've played was a fighter/barbarian aumaua in an all-custom party. TBH I've had most fun playing with full party creation.

you're about to start reading my posts in a different voice in your head
I hope not for me. I like the current voice of Tera Patrick I've got for your posts.

What's the verdict on the PoE DLC's? I have little interest in the base game but might finish out an character close to the end if the DLC's are any good.

I'll be taking the companions for my first run, so their presence also factors in my build.

I also heard the companions aren't particularly optimized either so i guess if my cha ends up being sup-par all it means is that it will be in line with the rest of the party.

Sorry, I thought I'm in the Deadfire thread. For a solid tank, it's the fighter class, but you can easily build a paladin or a chanter into a good tank as well, if you concentrate on those build choices.

I never managed to make a pure barbarian not die in the first moments of combat. Maybe I was overestimating him.

Good for you. I always cringe when I see games that want dual wielding paladins.

Reading up on how attack speed works, it seems dual wielding is preferrable for heavy armors. Because when i think of big armored knights i think rapier and stiletto.

Fucking Sawyer.

Now i suppose the only loop hole around this is try to come up with another way to deal damage that ignores speed, or take the handicap and be done with it.

Codex: bro it's impossible to play without priest because your frontline is too squishy

Also Codex: bro your frontline should dump all the defensive stats to 3 and dual wield two daggers in light armor

Unless they patched something drastic, paladins are the best defensive class in the game and druids the best offensive as clearing the screen from trash is 90% of the encounters.

I love druids in this game.

Here you go.

Taking a Priest is about the blanket immunities, not buffing defenses. When you don't have one, you'll craft scrolls in order to get the immunities.

Unless they patched something drastic, paladins are the best defensive class in the game and druids the best offensive as clearing the screen from trash is 90% of the encounters.
It depends on what you mean by "best defensive class". If you mean "it can get ridiculous amounts of defenses (as in deflection, reflex, etc.)", then yes, if you mean "it's the best tank in the MMO sense", then no.

RE: Druids - I find them extremely one-note in this game and there's like 1 way to play them and only 1 form is good. You could go for a Rotskulls build as well, I guess, but you get that spell very late.

White March 1 - the best PoE content hands down. White March 2 - not as good but still head and shoulders above base game. All PoE2 DLCs are also worth it.

Can you change attributes in the game? I don't think i can really figure out this system completely unless i actually start playing.
