Not sure about the game itself, but this world needs more Arcturus/Ragnarok Online style graphics JRPG. (But I don't like bland and blurry environment textures.)[/QUOTE]

Seems like it's been out on switch/mobile for a bit. Reviews say it's.... ok. https://switchrpg.com/reviews/marenian-tavern-story-patty-and-the-hungry-god-review/

That's glowing praise for KEMCO though

I've played it a bit on mobile and it has that weird core loop of manage tavern by day (cook new food with ingredients, there's lots of them, pick what food to serve during the day, check how the customers liked it, shuffle and repeat until you need some more) and go out to wilderness by night with short repeating levels and grind mobs/pick up ingredients to raise your exp levels and fill your storage. AFAIK all the story was tied to tavern progression, you were completely locked out until you raise some tavern stats.

I think this is definitely for the better considering Nippon Ichi's recent releases.

Even for a classic JRPG-styled game that will attract about 4 players, it has a ridiculous price and Derpuvo to boot. Squeenix is getting too greedy. Or too desperate. Anyways, automatic blacklist for me.

Not surprised. They haven’t had a great selling game in ages, it feels like.

Ehh. Only NIS title I liked was Soul Nomad, Gig was pure lulz. The first Disgaea wasn't half bad either.

Feels bad. I enjoyed their game a lot. I guess the Mobile Game was the last ditch effort to get back up and it was struck down as well.

If they didn't close the studio out of shame after Last Rebellion, I get the feeling they'll pull through this one somehow.

Sales have been up over the years actually, although they decreased this last financial year a bit. Judging from their latest annual reports, last financial year (31.03.2018 - 31.03.2019) had about 4.5% decrease in sales but operating profit decreased by 35%.

Pretty much. What notable titles have they released in the last five years that weren't ports or re-releases? Disgaea 5 and Labyrinth of Refrain?

Mediocre to bad when compared to their counterparts.
Doesn't help that most of their new gameplay design is based on their success of their mobile era.

Kemco RPGs tend to not be very good. Maybe their new one is ok but they have a bad track record

Most are at best serviceable if you've already played everything else under the sun, but their main appeal seems to be releasing a ton of mobile JRPGs. I think having some of them be free may have endeared them to general population, though. When you consider they're publishing it still comes down to whether devs are crapshoot or not.

I don't what that means exactly, but assume it means the crafting and how it ties to combat is excellent. The fact that it has "tavern management" reminds me of Recettear (an excellent game) too.
Suppose I'll give it a shot.
