Are there any Tactical jRPGs on the horizon? Grand Kingdom was released recently-ish, but that game looked pretty lame.
You are probably well aware of the two but what about Arcadian Atlas and Children of Zodiarcs? Do you deem them too far away in the horizon?

There's Liege but I have no idea about how it will turn out. The same goes for Arcadian Atlas and Children of the Zodiarcs.

Well, those are just Tactical RPGs (minus the J) if you want mince words. Plus since they're Kickstarter games the word upcoming doesn't really fit. I'm pretty sure God Wars is at least finished.

Idea Factory International has announced the western release dates for MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death.

The PS Vita dungeon RPG will launch both in retail and on the PlayStation Network on September 13th in North America and on September 16th in Europe. Featured above, you can view the game’s debut English trailer.

Here’s a brief synopsis for the game, via Idea Factory:

First, the winds stopped. Then, birds vanished from the skies. Finally, the sun set… And an eternal night fell upon the world. The reason was quickly identified. It was a story told of in legends. The world had ceased hundreds of years ago as well. But there was a legendary mage who had managed to restart it.

Thus, elders gathered capable young Machina Mages from around the world. They sent them to the legendary city: Machina City, Southern Cross. You must restart the world, and bring an end to this eternal night. That is your mission, and your destiny. Now, go forth on your journey. Go, Estra!

Key Features

  • Labyrinths of Possibility! Navigate challenging maps and puzzles in this first-person dungeon-crawler!
  • You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine! Pair your 3-person party with three different Guardians for a turn-based, dungeon-crawling battle system!
  • Advanced Robotics! Unique Guardian robots can be customized even further with different parts and crystals to enhance their abilities!
  • Elemental Enemies! Strategize attacks between your humans and Guardians and find the crack in your foe’s armor by exploiting their elemental weakness!

Well, add that to the list aweigh. It's a dungeon crawler, with MECHS. 10/10 year for Vita.

EDIT: Also, it's Idea Factory. Which means it might actually get a PC port too. Maybe.

I knew about Arcadian Atlas but it it didn't look too great to me. Anyways both are KS games so first thing is to wait and see if they'll be released or not. If I hear good things about either one I'll take look.

A mech dungeon crawler sounds p. unique, but feels rather wasted since it's FPP when walking around the dungeon and it seems to be a pretty standard dungeon at that. At least they show the mecha in combat, but I think they could've tried a bit harder to make it feel more unique; try and really drive home the feeling of piloting a mech. PC port when tho.

Speaking of tactical jRPGs AND mechs, I just found out that Super Robot Wars OG: The Moon Dwellers for the PS4 is getting an english translation in its asian release, and it's coming out next month if play-asia's website is correct. Time to start dropping some mad hints at my wife as to what would be a great anniversary gift.

At least it proves Ghostlight don't drop series halfway, so maybe they will do some Elminage later.

What's the best turn-based JRPG on steam right now?
The Last Remnant and Final Fantasy IX (uses ATB but whatever).

Final Fantasy X is also good. I dislike almost everything about X-2 but the battle system is dope.

sorry i hadn't replied, have been busy. that JRPG from Ghostlight looks atrocious i'd rather gargle hairy balls with mayoinesse tooth-paste.

however been playing the fan-trans (hashtagh let's make fan-trans happen people!) of 7th Dragon 2: 2020 and.... ugh.

UGH.

HORRIBLE and SEVERE downgrade in everything, literally every single fact of gameplay-related mechanics that made the original 7th dragon fan-trans on Nintendo DS so good, and I also opine much more fun and much more engaging than the Etrian Odyssey games which inspired it.

Seriously the dumbing down of the game is all-encompassing and so, well, boring, that I simply can't even muster enough willpower to make a little list like i always do pointing out the changes.

a tl;dr of it is basically: cut down to 3 playable chars in ur party instead of 4; amount of classes and also class complexity in its entirety was completely gutted as the classes in 7th dragon 2: 2020 are quite honestly fucking banal casual kid friendly shit that has zero, ZERO depth or mechanical complexity; obviously this means amount of skills and also skill depth and complexity itself (!) was severely cut down AND also dumbed down, two seperate things and both things happened.

avoid. the game is perfectly playable and absolutely is not a "bad" game, and if you've never played or heard anything about the first one then i can definitely see you/people enjoying it for what it is; but it is so casualized and dumbed down from the 1st 7th dragon that anyone who has played the 1st game will simply vomit onto their keyboard after 10 mins playing it, i.e. the moment they create their party of 3 children and are left dumb-struck staring at their screen wondering why all of the classes/skills/complexity was taken out.

Spike Chunsoft will bring mating sim and dungeon-delving RPG Conception II to Steam on August 16th: http://store.steampowered.com/app/458730/

The magical world of Aterra has been under attack by monsters for decades.

The only ones who can stand against these monsters are “Disciples,” young men and women gifted with divine powers of purification, and otherworldly Star Children created via the bonds between male and female disciples.

As a new disciple, it falls to you to create Star Children with seven of the most powerful girls in the world and save Aterra.
  • A world-spanning story filled with charming characters
Form unbreakable bonds with the seven different girls and interact with other disciples of the academy in order to build strength to rid the world of dusk.

  • Challenge the labyrinths with the girls of the academy
The dusk circles are packed with enemies and traps that await you. These dungeons change shape every time you enter, making every excursion a new challenge. Fight alongside the heroines and your Star Children to purify these places of the monsters!

  • Strengthen your bonds and create mightier star children
Improving your relationships with the female disciples will allow you to create stronger star children. Use your time at the academy to build strong friendships with them and form powerful bonds of trust. The stronger your bonds are, the more powerful the girls will become in battle as well!

  • Create teams with up to 30 different star children classes
There are a wide variety of classes for your star children to be. Each class has different skills to train in and attacks to use. Having many different types of classes at your disposal will let you create all sorts of different strategies!
