Correct me if im wrong but most ships can be bought now with in-game credit? Unless you really want some ship ASP what's the point paying real money anymore?

Whenever they feel like resetting, or whenever the game bugs out and forces you to reset your profile, only the stuff you paid with money comes back. You have to grind the rest again. They call it "Tier 0 persistence" and I have it on good authority that it has never been done before!

Then "most ships" certainly doesn't cover the unreleased ships, which are real-money exclusive. So how do you do if you want a ship that doesn't exist? Well, you can't grind a JPG, but thankfully, it's available for real money. This way, you can pay not to play with your ship. But it's still yours.

And of course, your list of paid-for ships (bonus points for LTI) gives you more respect and authority from your fellow commandos on Spectrum, as well as possibly more attention from Senpai Chris.

The genius about this "game" is that they realized they can just add new ships and locations forever, without leaving alpha. This way nobody can call out the quality of the game, since it is "in alpha".

Right now every ship you can buy in game for in game money and it not some F2P timewasting to get new ship. If game didn't crash and all gameplay systems worked correctly you could get corvette in 2-3 days of mining and doing missions.

There are around 100+ ships/cars&shit available to buy in game at the moment.

Not unique to SC. Remember DayZ ? I think it is still in "early access". Collect money without shitty reviews.

What, why ? There is 930 years till it is released,it says so in the trailer name.
Think of how much you'll save! For example the puny $3000 the Javelin costs is literally nothing compared to the 423 billions* just the base game will cost in 2950 dollars. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later.

Progression wipes are still pretty common. That being said they've already confirmed that ships now will be harder to acquire than the launched game because not all the systems are in yet and acquiring ships is already pretty feasible. Unless you're a whale that wants to fund ~the vision~ it's pretty dumb to buy anything except a starter ship.

Even the larger expensive ships like the Reclaimer can be acquired through gameplay at a reasonable rate.

The nomad was neat looking as a "starter ship" but damn, $70? If you're spending real money, just spend the extra $30 and get yourself a Cutlass.
It might make a little more sense in the in game ship economy but the real world price sucks.

I don't know, I think it's a reasonable price compared to the other ships. It's only 15 bucks more than the Avenger with three times the cargo and decently more firepower.

Why the fuck would you even spend $ on some virtual ship you can buy in game for in game money in less than a day of playing.
Speaking of ship. It seems like reasonable upgrade over starter ships for folks who want to trade.

The problem with current ship setup is that there is almost no ship in middle for trade. You get Aurora with its measly 3SCU, Then there is small sidegrade with 7SCU but then next one is Cutlass with 48SCU which is about 2mln and Freelancer with 60something SCU which is also about 2mln with stock gear.

So half of cutlass cargo is pretty great. If ship will cost about 700-800k it will be fine

Honestly, I spent maybe 45 Eur altogether in the very beginning for the Hornet and grabbed the free Mil-Spec upgrade when it was released on veterans day. Also managed to acquire cupon for the Sabre Raven so I don't think there is any point of buying anything else at all for real money.
Now just need to wait until they stop soft resetting profiles so in-game purchases are permanent.
Regarding the yacht I think they need to keep their designer department busy, while coders try to make it playable.

Is this game even worth trying for free? I reckon its a massive download
Definitely not what I'd quantify as playable for the average person but if you're interested enough to ask, it's worth the 62GB download. Their CDNs are fast so you'll get it pretty quick.

For free like me ? Yes.

If game works and doesn't crash, you don't get glitches etc. It is pretty fun game atm and there is core loop of getting "next ship" that will give you some motivation to do something, you do various missions etc. aside from that there is mining and trading goods.
If you are graphic whore and have that 4k screen this is the game also to test it since it has best graphics i have ever seen.
If you are weird like me to see how games develop.
