It is still impossible to judge because it could go any number of ways. The context, quality of the world, that's what matters. I've played enough MMOs where I'm in the Alpha and thinking this is so shit but could be good if they give it another 6-12 months. Then it gets released a week later. Shit like Huxley, Vanguard, or that Hellgate London where you run around bland dungeons mowing down bland enemies to get some bland loot. That's what the mission in the video above reminded me of. The forced enthusiasm from those fruity English nerds did nothing to distract me from how lame that mission looked. Once the novelty wears off, you are faced with the reality that it's a crappy indie FPS with glitched AI. And then a goofy indie vehicle physics game with deliveries. And then you trade for millions of marklars to spend on marklars to keep in your marklar.

It's the context that matters. It could be amazing if everything was done well enough. If space is full of traders and bandits and stuff then you might get attacked on your way to a mission. That would be good. Especially if it involved gameplay including for any people besides the 2 pilots... (and hopefully not just being a door gunner because that sucks) Then that would be good. And then if the FPS missions end up being as good as say a Halflife 2 level or similar, then that would be good. Then when you get back to base, if the reward somehow makes the whole thing feel worthwhile yet doesn't unbalance the rest of the game, that would be good. And if they do a good job of all those things and the space races and whatever else, then it could be an amazing game. That's all to do with the budget. The shitty MMOs I saw that got released a year premature all could have been amazing too, if they had the budget to keep development going longer. They never did, they always got to this sort of point and then released. Star Citizen's budget is big but if they are blowing through the cash on nonsense then I see the same happening here. If they are good with the cash, they could keep developing it another few years and end up with a great game.

That is p. damned impressive that they've got a ship with a tank and an APC within it, and you or any of the other players can enter either the tank or the APC or just stay in the ship, while those vehicles are still within the ship, then exit the ship in either the tank or the APC or neither, then actually use those assets to attack a base.

It still looks buggy, but I agree with DU that it's becoming mildly interesting.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I really wish that these FPS RPG/MMORPG games would use a tactical shooter style combat system. They're all about realism but most of the enemies are bullet sponges. Give me a shooter game with Valorant/Counter Strike style shooting please. You can give people more health or reduce the damage of bullets if you want to add armor/shielding, but I hate this Cyberpunk bullet sponge style of gameplay.

I will continue making fun of this game and anyone who says anything positive about it until it actually releases and a codexer that I trust says it's good. I just wanted SQ42 dammit. I haven't played a good space sim since X-Wing vs TIE Fighter :negative:

The plan for SC has always been a tactical mil sim style of FPS with low health. NPCs and players aren't really bullet sponges, usually a single headshot is enough to kill someone. The main problem right now is that the characters are unresponsive/desynced as shit, so you can shoot them in the head and they won't drop dead until a couple seconds later.

It can be better or worse depending on how the client and server are running at any given time. But most of the time the gunplay does not feel snappy because of that issue.

No sign of the game's funding slowing down so I'm not worried about that. Keep in mind the game is just starting to run well on people's systems due to a partial implementation of Gen12 and 3.18's multithreaded Vulkan renderer will improve performance significantly. It's only going to continue funding more and more as it becomes increasingly playable for people who already bought the game and start to bring in their friends during free fly events and general word of mouth improves.

It is like that in SC. The problem is that there is huge player/npc desync going on which they are trying to fix with their magical "server meshing"

Sometimes you get very low population server and you can see there that AI works correctly and AI enemies are pretty competent.

Come on, Battlefield 1942 already had warships you could control or walk on that carried smaller landing ships that you could also drive or jump into. And aircraft carriers you could take off and land onto while they were cruising around. Not to mention you could board enemy ships and shoot up their crew. And that was 20 years ago.
