I guess I should look at some of the games that will be switched off with GFWL soon.

Speaking of CRT and LCD, I also miss the former but I am afraid I cannot afford the space for one more monitor and one more system. However, I have noticed that a lot of emulators have started looking into the issue. I have seen CPCs, Spectrum, C64 and maybe Apple II emulator trying to replicate the experienc of having the run on a CRT through filters that are slightly more elaborate than scanlines and crappy interpolation. Heck. Even linux screensavers have been doing that for years.

I just wish that DosBOX would feature CRT emulation as a standard. There has actually been some experiments there too.

Had no luck with Linux there, and did not bother to try on Windows.

Proper fullscreen for old games (at least for those who do remember it :obviously: ) was usually achieved on a TV

What? You had your PC connected to the TV?
I had my c64 connected to a TV.
My friends had their Amigas.

As for my early PCs, their CRTs were much smaller than modern monitors, meaning 640x480 looked pretty fucking sharp and telling the difference between 800x600 and 1024x768 was only possible because the latter ran slower, no jaggies in either case.

I once had a shitty 14" SVGA Monitor that couldn't handle 1024 x 768, to the point that I almost couldn't read blurred fonts in windows if I set desktop resolution to 800x600, but the VGA and SVGA games looked better than anyone ever managed to achieve with filters nowadays. i remember how jaggy the games looked after I changed my monitor for a better one.
This. Those games' aesthetics were product of hardware they were meant to run on, it's not like anyone was a pixel fetishist back then.

Fucking hipsters.
I think this could be approximated using subpixel filtering (like how ClearType works).

So how do you like this Mace Rape Squad game?
It's terrible. It's basically alpha of a MMO which can only be played in singleplayer (or coop, but nobody's ever online). Text and story are boring, combat is mediocre (but you can't swing a weapon without jumping at the enemy at the same time, which is a little bit annoying and you need to get used to it). It's fun for about one hour if you have nothing else to play.

I'd say that $1 - which is what I paid - is a proper price for this game.

Mace Rape Squad game
Is it better than Two Worlds 1/2? Less wonkiiness, animations, looting etc.?

No. Two Worlds 2 was a decent game, Two Worlds was crappy, however, this game is much worse. As I said, "single-player MMO in an alpha stage" describes it perfectly. It could be a good game if devs decided to work on it for another 2 years, but as of now... there's not much to make player keep interest, especially when developers already abandoned the ship.

OK, derpy writing aside, the mix of environments doesn't look too bad, even if the low number of decoration items gets repetitive. Mind, I'm not exactly a shooter specialist, so there's not much I can compare it to. Nice turret section:

1$ for that pseudoMMO is maybe good price but definitely not worth any time, even if you're basement dweller with lot of time.

Bulletsrom - shooting is boring, kicking is fun, story decent (compared to typical 'murica stuff) but fuck the ending....

Well, I'm not that far yet, that doesn't sound good. Struggling with some overgrown potted plant at the moment. You are right about the shooting and kicking though.

I haven't played it since it came out, but I'm pretty sure the plant boss is past the halfway mark.

Anyway, I just kept powersliding there and stopped every once in a while to get a shot in. Iirc, you can powerslide infinitely in that area. Don't know if they patched it out.

Gothic 2 with Vurt's patch looks pretty sweet. The downside is that you can easily miss the herbs because of all that foliage.

Kewl. Recognised the later screens but thought that might be another game. Will put it on the list.

The earlier screens are from a short flashback scenario that doesn't take long. So don't get your hopes up that there's anything else done with that cool city scene than what you see there.

Its a pretty short game, each mission took me around 10-25 min to finish, you can explore the manor where every closet, draw or desk draw can be opened but all of it is empty, you have additional tasks but i finished them all before half game. The story is interesting and there are a couple twists in it, but by the end of it i just wanted to see all the gory deaths and mostly ignored it.
Most annoying thing: you are the shortest person in the game and i don't remember the last game in which i constantly had to look so much up just so i don't miss something in this house build for giants.
