Cal Kestis actor confirms Star Wars Jedi 3 during Comic Con panel​

STIG ASMUSSEN, THE DIRECTOR OF BOTH STAR WARS JEDI GAMES, RECENTLY LEFT RESPAWN

Cal Kestis actor Cameron Monaghan has said that he is currently working on a third Star Wars Jedi game.

During a panel at Ocala Comic Con, Monaghan said: “We’re working on a third and we’re in the process of doing that right now.

“That’s a big undertaking and there have been some conversations so far, but hopefully when all things and said and done we’ll be able to go in and make something really cool.”

This panel took place only shortly before Stig Asmussen, the director of both Star Wars Jedi games, announced that he was leaving developer Respawn Entertainment.

As reported by Bloomberg, Asmussen is leaving Respawn and its parent company EA, with his next destination currently unknown.

“After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck,” an EA spokesperson told Bloomberg in a statement.

“Veteran Respawn leaders will be stepping up to guide the team as they continue their work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.”

Asmussen said back in February that he hoped to make a third Star Wars Jedi game.

“I always wanted to see this as a trilogy,” he told IGN at the time, speaking about the second game, Survivor. “How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?

“We had a pretty decent idea of timeframe where we wanted Survivor to take place, what the stakes were going to be, what the tone of the game was going to be, what Cal was going to be up against, and how the crew was going to factor into that. And there’s ideas of what we could do beyond that as well.”

Report: Respawn Developing A First-Person Mandalorian Game

We know that Respawn Entertainment, the team behind Titanfall, Apex Legends, and the Star Wars: Jedi series, has a couple of unannounced Star Wars games in the works. It’s unclear what form those projects are taking, but according to one report, one of them may star a Mandalorian.

Insider Gaming reports that its sources have disclosed that Respawn is developing a first-person title in which players assume the mantle of a Mandalorian. For clarification, players do not play as the Mandalorian, as in Din Djarin from the hit Disney Plus series, but rather as a different bounty hunter. The game is reportedly set during the height of the Galactic Empire and will see players capturing or killing bounty targets.

Additionally, Insider Gaming’s sources claim the game is not an open-world title. Instead, it will feature more linear levels set across multiple planets. Gameplay is said to emphasize “mobility” and “style” while also being “very fast-paced.” Players will have access to Mandalorian gadgets such as a jetpack (used to execute a variety of aerial maneuvers), grapple hook, wrist rocket, and a visor for scanning and tagging enemies. The project is allegedly a year or two away from release.

While this report should be taken with a grain of salt, we know that Repawn has a Star Wars FPS in the works. In January 2022, the studio’s publisher, Electronic Arts, announced that Respawn is developing multiple Star Wars games. One of them is an FPS led by game director Peter Hirschmann, which could be this Mandalorian title. The other projects are last year’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and a yet-to-be-revealed strategy game.

We’ve contacted EA for comment and will update this story if we receive a response.

Whether this report is accurate or not, it's far from the last Star Wars game on the horizon. This year has Ubisoft's open-world Star Wars Outlaws and Zynga's long-awaited Star Wars: Hunters on the docket. Further out are Star Wars Eclipse by Quantic Dream, an unnamed Star Wars project by Amy Hennig's Skydance New Media, and (maybe) the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

I never got into many of the Star Wars side stories, so to me Boba Fett was always henchmen number five, who died by accident, screaming like a bitch (never getting out of the sarlaac pit). Therefore also don't care about anyone wearing his style of armor.

Lol, the second time Boba Fett got cancelled. First it was that Uncharted clone in the depths of Coruscant, whose protagonist we later learned was going to be replaced by the Fett-man, and now it's this with the Fett lookalike. Just give up, henchman number 5.

EXCLUSIVE – What Could Have Been – Details on Respawn’s Canceled Mandalorian Star Wars Game


t’s been just two weeks since Insider Gaming exclusively reported on the first details on Respawn Entertainment’s first-person Star Wars Mandalorian game, but just yesterday, the game was officially canceled by EA.

First, it should be said that by all accounts this game was fantastic – and that isn’t just coming from the developers, but from everybody who had the opportunity to play the game. Feedback from playtests was always positive and surrounded by buzz, with the developers enjoying the entire process of working on the project. That being said, for whatever reason, EA felt like the game was too much of a financial risk and has decided to pull the plug.

What was Respawn’s Mandalorian Game?​


As previously reported, the game was set to be based on a Mandalorian bounty hunter (not believed to be THE Mandalorian), that would see the player search for bounties across the galaxy.

The game started with ‘the den’, which was the player’s base of operations, that contained your ship, a map of the galaxy, an upgrade station, an armory, and more. It’s understood that it would be here where you would select which bounties you’d want to pursue. The player could then equip the weapons they wanted, upgrade their armor, and then go into the ship and land on the planet where the bounty is located.

The game was not an open world and instead offered a linear level experience, but did have some larger open areas for the player to explore and find their bounties and other secrets. Combat was described as very fast-paced due to the Mandalorian jetpack that allowed for vertical dashing and horizontal boosting for reaching those high-to-reach places. It was also said that there was a takedown feature, which would see your character perform takedowns, somewhat reminiscent of DOOM (but a lot less gorey) to take down enemies.

The main enemies were stormtroopers, who would patrol most maps as you try and complete your bounty and had several different types that you come to expect from a Star Wars game – regular, shotgun, sniper, heavy (rockets), and more. It’s also understood that the game featured ‘boss-like’ enemies periodically, which would see you face AT-ST walkers etc. Other enemies would depend on the planet you were on but could range from gangs of outlaws to other bounty hunters who wanted to beat you to the punch.

It’s believed that the game was still a ways off from its release, but it’s understood that the game had a fairly polished vertical slice and a few other missions/levels near completion.

The game was in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.

Oh well, at least we still get Baby-Faced Jedi 3.

I'm trying to give this game another chance, but it's just impossible. The combat in this might be the jankiest I've experienced in any game. It makes Piranha Bytes and Spiders look like masters of game design in comparison. You get stuck in strange animations, hitboxes are garbage, dodge windows that are all over the place, and the telegraphing is either non-existent or terrible when it's there. There's simply never a good flow to combat, no matter how many abilities you upgraded or which stance you're using. They just suck at combat design.

It's sad, because this game has genuinely interesting level design for a modern AAA goyslop. But then they even had to fuck that up by making all items you discover either cosmetics, lore bits, or minor upgrades. The incentive to explore these beautiful environments is just not there, further exacerbated by traversal stutter.

Mind you, I'm talking about the highest difficulty here, but these complaints apply even to normal imo. And having played Sekiro, it's impossible to avoid the comparison. Sekiro is superbly designed in every aspect, there's never a cheap death, and every death is a learning experience. In this game, it results in frustration and anger. Into the bin it goes.

I hoped they'd fix that shit for Survivor but nope.

Overall I liked Survivor a lot, it has a strong, positive straight white male protagonist which is a taboo nowadays and it does bring back that old SW magic not seen anywhere since the Return of the Jedi. I didn't even mind when I got to play the stronk black wamman character for a bit, given the conclusion of that subplot.

Have you tried playing the Jedi Knight series?
It's a really indie series, you've probably never heard of it, it's really underground...
Fuck Jedi Survivor and its sequel.
Jedi Knight is way better and always will be.

Have you tried playing the Jedi Knight series?
Most of them. I'm old enough to have played Dark Forces on release.

Fallen Order/Survivor are very different games tho. You may hate it because it's a big tryple-A game by EA to boot, and it's certainly not perfect, but it absolutely does deserve a few kudos, for the protagonist in this day and age and for the vibe. It's the first SW content of any kind since Kotor 2 made by people who are:
- nerds
- competent
- actually love Star Wars

Seems like everyone had a decent time while I'm loathing this. I liked Fallen Order enough, found it to be a clunky Prince of Persia esque game. Could forgive a lot of things the first time. But having the same clunky combat, weird glitchy movements, restrictive glitchy platforming and repetitive level design for the second time in a row is too much for me.

I don't have it in me to forgive a AAA game for all this jank, especially backed with some boring ass characters and story, and especially when Prince of Persia SOT which is over two decades old has smoother gameplay. There is a lot of platforming and because it's glitchy you can't even improve upon it, any attempt to master it breaks because of the all the jank. I felt like a movie director trying to minimize the jank of the gameplay, only other time I felt this was playing AC Unity. The combat is a lot of simon says, player freedom is severely lacking. Too many navigation puzzles and watered down gameplay. The new expanded level design comes with skins as exploration reward and constantly commits the cardinal sin of having no world cohesion. Fuck off.

Played 5 hours till I beat the one handed armless Jedi, felt like 10 due to how formulaic the level design was. I can't force myself anymore because everything is so agressively bland. All the abilities are so tame. Starkiller in Force Unleashed & KOTOR had so much cool shit, force lightning and shit! here it's all lame psychic powers. Maybe it's all because I'm not a hardcore Star Wars fan; bland ass game.

Are you usually playing Japanese anime games? Because coming from those I can see all that you're describing.

Coming from anything else though I don't get the "blandness" and "clunkiness" at all.

Interms of combat yes. I do play a lot of DMC, Ninja Gaiden & the likes. But I don't mind the combat, it's engaging enough. The issue is the platforming, especially when there is so much of it.


I'm not sure if the jank is apparent here. But there is a stuttery glitchy feel to everything in Fallen Order. Animations are missing inertia and weight. I compare it to POP 2008 since it's mechanically similar, but I'm generally more of fan of the SOT trilogy.
Plus in the old POP games, all walls are interactable. In modern games everything is sectioned off to a=b.


Over 20 years old. I really can't find it in my heart to forgive modern games for these things. Especially when rest of the elements in the game are also unremarkable.
It's compounding issues.
