Guess Private Division went for this because they know it's just a one off game with no chance of building a franchise etc. given Obsidian are with Microsoft now. Quick money for them and an easy way for them to cut their losses.

As awful as this is, whether we torrent this or not won't mean much to Obsidian, they'll likely never touch this universe again now that they're with Microsoft and there's no way any future games will be on Epic so they'll ride out the bad word of mouth and it'll be forgotten in a few years.

The same cannot be said for other developers, seeing games like Phoenix Point and Control on Epic is a bit of a laugh because I'm not sure where they think they're going next? The dude behind Phoenix Point talks about it keeping their studio going for years, but what does he think is going to happen with his next game? Epic won't be doing this at that point and they won't want to shell out again for a game that likely sells 5,000 copies on their store.

These developers have burnt their PC audience and most of the loyal fans will be long gone, unless they release something amazing, they aren't coming back and keeping their studio going for a couple of years so their next mediocre offering can completely flop is a good laugh. They can all forget about Kickstarter, pitching to publishes with their niche game and having to explain why everyone online is talking about boycotting their next game so it's short term gain for long term failure.

Good riddance to the Epic store in the future and good riddance to the developers who've gone down this road. I know some will say "but but it was the publishers decision don't punish the devs!" but it doesn't matter. Exclusivity to shit like Itunes killed the music industry, deep down people want convenience when they buy something, they don't care about supporting anyone and they'll either head to Pirate Bay or just buy it on sale when it's on Steam. If they think anyone is going to buy it at full price on Steam when it releases they're deluded. No one buys a 12 month old game for full price, people will be waiting for 75% off.
Hmmm i generally agree with you. But why are you not putting obsidian with the rest? It is not like they are a mega studio that puts out success after success and have millions of fans. They were doing a solid biowaste and loosing fans for the last few games. Every next game that they make is worst than the last and sells less. They have accumulated quite a lot of negative points, and this a quite the betrayal for some fans.

Epic game store?

More like torrent and repacks

As much as I want to support Obsidian I am not installing another client in my PC besides GOG and Steam.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
If you could beat 15 years worth of vendor lock-in with "better experience", mang you'd become a total legend in the world of tech CEOs.
Internet Explorer and Netscape used to be the browsers to use, then Firefox and Chrome came along.

That IS a solid analogy, alas Firefox came and went as you might've noticed and Chrome didn't win by offering "better experience", the early versions were utter shite. Google simply pushed through MS' consumer lock-in with their own.

It's late, go to sleep.

I seriously doubt Obisidian can even get extra money from this deal. Take 2 will have all of them.

As long as MS' is paying their salaries what does it matter what Obsidian gets from...any deal anymore? If anything; MS is paid, if anything more; some people in the studio get bonuses etc.
This specific game has some small third party publisher, who presumably doesn't have a lot to lose from taking a deal here since they're not going to be in charge of Obsidian stuff in future anyway. As long as the sales + Epic's payment to them is more than they predicted making on Steam (and it might genuinely be more, depending on how much money Epic is willing to shovel around) they'd be idiots not to take the deal. Obsidian would be idiots to take the deal but it's not up to them in this case

Bigbrained idea: Trying to get people to your store by providing a better experience for users.

unable to use another vendor without substantial switching costs.

What substantial switch costs are involved with using Steam and Epic Store simultaneously?

You don't appear to have actually read the wiki page you're referencing.
