I don't support subscription bullshit, and the Windows Store is total ass. Anyone who thinks the Epic Store is worse than that shit has been hitting the pipe.

If you want to give them $60 rather than $1 because you feel strongly about something like this I suppose that's your prerogative

I'll probably play it via the $1 Xbox app and then (if I enjoy it), buy it on Steam when it goes on sale with all the DLC.

Win win from my perspective.

I'm not sure it's worth buying on any of the digital stores if a cheap subscription service is available. It's not like you own any of the games you buy on them, they can yank them on a whim and if they go out of business you're SoL.

(GoG is a qualified exception as their games are genuinely DRM-free, so you can actually make backups and run them without fuss.)

I dislike relying long term on subscription services. No guarantee it won't end up like Netflix with things being removed randomly due to licensing chicanery.

I also like things in one place and most of my collection is on Steam.

Comparing Disco to Outer Worlds its obvious the old guard should just give up and give way to young blood. Old timers dont have it in them any more, their brains cant produce an iota of originality, just rehash after rehash.
It concerns all these old developers with their abysmal output driven on nostalgia.

Tim and Leonard, you are already legends, just take a well deserved retirement and dont release Outer World before its too late.

It's not them, it's capitalism. Make a name for yourself and they'll push you to do the same thing over and over again. Eventually it grinds you down. First you stop bothering to present any new ideas because you know they'll get shot down, then you stop even bothering to have them. You gotta live after all.

Think I'll buy on EPIC for now, then in a year or so on Steam (hopefully) GOG when it becomes available...

good consumer, buy the product twice
don't forget to buy it again when the new and improved enhanced edition comes out

In the unlikely case that I'll want to replay then I guess I'll eventually buy it too, if it's not available anymore on the subscription service (or I'm no longer a subscriber). Either way I will have paid way less than full price at launch.

Worth noting, it seems that future Obsidian games may remain on Game Pass permanently because they're a first party Microsoft developer now.

It doesn't look like there's any hard rule about how long third party games stay there, but apparently you get a warning one month before they leave.

(It would turn out nicely if Microsoft acquired TOW publishing rights from Take-Two)

Realistically, the microsoft game pass thing is good value for most people. I only own a handful of games that I regularly go back to. Having access to a wide range of titles would probably lead me to playing a bunch of games I'd otherwise never touch.
It's nice to see Epic getting shit on by a bigger corporation using the same strategy to muscle their way into the market. Mega-corporations like microsoft can afford to run services with razor thin profits — or even losses(…which end up becoming profits because of tax loss carryforwards…).

I'm enjoying the thread but taken aback by the name-calling. There are no names anymore so it's confusing who is insulting whom.
Just put your fucking names in the signatures and be done with this stupid nonsense. I thought whatever ass worm that gnawed at the admins to do this "prank" would've died a week ago. Guess not...

Why is it that some of us are stuck without forum identities while others have them restored? I don't really care either way, just curious.

I feel you man. But it seems like everyone is aiming for the subscription "netflix" hill.

It's the digital equivalent of renting, except now you can do it on a PC instead of a console. Games one wants to play once and then forget about, never to touch again.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Strap Yourselves In Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Stop sucking Microsoft's cock, you fucking degenerates. This subscription crap is a slippery slope, before you know it publishers won't release perpetual versions of video games anymore and game preservation will become a thing of the past.

I doubt Netflix is going to make preservation of TV series and films a thing of the past.

If the game sells well enough, certainly Obsidian will make some dlc. They support their games post launch really well even flops like Deadfire.
