I think it's a pretty weird design choice. It suggests that the game had a really big budget that Vavra felt he had to fill with all sorts of bells and whistles ("Fuck it, we have cash, let's add a gay romance subplot!")

It's possible he might have already wanted to do it in the first game, but didn't because of budget and other constraints

However, Henry was already a set character that was clearly heterosexual and the setting really sets you to be a rather "pious" persona. Making him bi makes no sense, it just doesn't fit.

I know at least 3 very devout Christians during high school who moves to the capital city for universtiy and within 2 years all of them are gay/bi

Also usually influencers/grifters are more smart/sensible than their particular followers; they can clearly calculate 1 gay scene + 1 black character is like a drop in the ocean in a 100+ hours long RPG that looked very good in previews. The entire point of role-playing a predefined character is that they have specific limitations. I loathe this mentality of every video game character being some degree of self insert.

On the plus side, this just shows how desperate these companies are becoming. They know they can't get away with extremely compromised products such as Dustborn and Concord so they are going to shift towards hiding the subversive elements deeper into a game.
