Dark Souls 2 doesn't fit in the list, the devs wanted to try something new and original, not re-iterate upon the first game. Dark Souls 3 is the bland and souless copy of the first game without any good in it.

Warhorse was sold for 33.2 millions of euro, Bakala the czech baron who founded first game had probably 50% of the stake, the rest was divided to three people[Zwilling with lowest amount of share if any, Klima, Vavra] with Vavra and Klima probably holding 23-24% each. So that gives almost 8 million euros. It's not that much in gaming industry but considering this game started as kickstarter level trash, then that's a pretty good result. So it was just a matter of money.
