I can't go to TTLG any more. The Eidos shills are so obvious and loud that it's become physically painful. :(

Let's not even pretend the game isn't gonna have a fair share of apologists on Codex and a "good for what it is " seal of approval.

Look back at this post when the first reviews will be out. I am predicting they will contain such phrases as "the game is true to its roots, yet it ads new stuff to make it more modern for the modern audiences" written by people who never played a Thief game in their life. They will also tell that the haters are retarded and that focus, third person and fog instead of shadows feel totally great and add much to the immershoon. They will say how wonderfully written Garett is. It will also average at least 85/100 on metacritic.

Normally, codex shills praise modern games because they can avoid some features.

Link to petition thingy to bring SR back in the role as Garrett, probably won't make any difference and the game will in all likelihood be awful even with Stephen Russell, but whatever.

Probably by hipsters that think that Thief was about Stephen Russell, not about shadows, exploration and stealth which Eidos wants to actually ditch.

Voice overs are the least of Thiaf's problems.

He's saying that it's better to have a proper Thief game without SR than a shitty next gen abomination with him.

edit
Oh wait, I misunderstood you, GeeZee. You were tellign that to Jack, not Skyway.

Grab the Codex by the pussy
I'm done with this thread. It sickens me to waste one more second even just making fun of this game. Time better spent cleaning up my "humorous pictures of walruses" folder, I'd say.

Obviously, but there weren't any petitions for gameplay improvements and I doubt there will be. Press X for awesome has become the industry standard and people are very used to it by now, it's not going to go away anytime soon.
Why would you do such a thing to SR?
Personally I just signed it to show appreciation for SR and spite against Eidos. There's no way they are actually going to change VA this late into production.

I don't know why people are bothering with these petitions and protests. The game is rotten to the core. You can't change that now. Changing the voice actor in a game this poorly envisioned is going to do nothing but tarnish his image in eyes of people who dislike the game.

Eh, Thief 3 is terrible, but SR made it better, especially with Brosius' music. Also, Robbing The Cradle makes up for a lot.

Wow, reinstalling.

Has this ever happened? I thought we hated Deus Ex: HR here. (I thought it was pretty bad, though it's very easy to be bad when compared to Deus Ex)

skyway:

Stephen Russell is as much part of Thief as the shadows, large levels, the atmosphere, the darkness, the voice acting... games are a whole, more than the sum of all their individual parts. Of course this game is going to be shit; it's not like that is a surprise. But I think it's fair to say that removing SR is just as bad as removing shadows, not less.

It was all part of the Thief experience the way we remember and treasure it. And maybe you didn't value his performance as much as some of us did, but to me and others like me it was a keystone to the game, just like everything else in those masterpieces.

We'll never get games as good as those made by Looking Glass anymore, I'm afraid. Those people were truly gifted.

P.S.: According to Youtube comments Amnesia is much scarier than the Shalebridge Cradle. Fuck you, Youtube. Psychology > shock effects every three minutes. Truly this generation deserves the shitty games it gets.

Because it is. Funny enough in Amnesia you are also stealthing around since you are not even able to attack enemies.

I've seen quite a lot of positive comments on here for DX:HR, and on other "old games are king" forums. It was pretty incline in my opinion, other than the bosses and too many air ducts.

Amnesia is popamole. There's 9 enemies in the entire Thief mission. That you can kill them only makes it more tragic due to their nature. In Amnesia you're constantly harassed by the same boring figures that you can avoid by hiding in some cupboard and looking away. Yawn.

Besides, who in their right mind kills anything in Thief?

Thief 3 isn't nearly as good as 1 & 2 - the maps are smaller, the graphics are... different and the whole game is quite different, what with the quasi-hub. But Stephen Russel helps reassure us that somewhere, in there, there's still remnants of the Thief we knew and loved. With the familiar voice comes the reassurance that someone who worked on this still cared about the franchise. It's just a huge nostalgia trigger. You here SR and you're more inclined to forgive some flaws, just because they at least kept that. But it doesn't blind you to the flaws, just makes you nostalgic. In a perfect world, Thiaf would have everything: SR, shadows, darkness, sneaking, the whole shebang.

It's impossible and that's a shame.

Strategy Informer said:
According to lead level designer Daniel Windfeld Schmidt, turning on the classic mode will disable elements on the heads-up display and reduce Garrett's special abilities, removing the slo-mo Focus mode.

Schmidt also added there will be an in-game recorder and social network features, allowing gamers to share their experience with the world.

As if focus mode is going to be the only problem in the game. There is no way they aren't going to streamline Thief's more complex mechanics, automaticaly walking silently while crouching is enough to ruin the whole game.

Thief is a story-driven game

Well, that's the end of it, right there.
Why people that want so much to see a movie or experience a non-interactive story don't go buy a book or watch a movie? There is no point in non-interactive storytelling in games, tell the story through the gameplay in a non-intrusive way or GTFO. The last thing I want to see is Garret's girlfriend drama, tragic love.

Oh ok. The part I didn't understand was "SR made it better". I thought that is some kind of mod. :D But it stands for Stephen Russel. :stupid:
I played the game of course, and you are right, it is not as good an the first 2, but there are parts that help to look over its flaws. Like SR.

I don't like using SR either but I saw it before in this thread and was in a hurry!
