What? Another 1999 mode?

Hey bros focus mode is no longer slo-mo but guess what you still can perform one button takedowns of up to 3 guards without breaking a sweat and there are still no shadows and a shitty Z-buffer fog covers everything.

This is gonna turn out to be one of the worst franchise rapes in recent times. I mean even the guys at Bethesda - as much as they fucked Fallout in the ass - tried to emulate some of the key elements from the previous games in their cute, completely hapless and incompetent kind of way (Ron Perlman, the art and feel of the setting, Mutants, Enclave, Brotherhood of Steel, SPECIAL, aimed shots, perks etc.),

These French hipster morons however are completely shameless when it comes to stripping Thief of ALL its characteristic elements and turning it into your standard, uninspired, run-of-the-mill Assasin's Creed clone. "Yeah we're thinking about including the word "Taffer", but we don't know how yet". What the hell? Is there any more blunt way of saying that you just don't give a fuck?

Let's not even pretend the game isn't gonna have a fair share of apologists on Codex and a "good for what it is " seal of approval.

The usual culprits have already started saying that it will be a good game, just not a good Thief. It's in this very thread, if you're bothered to sift through more than 60 pages, but you likely wouldn't and you likely already know who the people who say such things are.

I saw Shalebridge Cradle (or something like that) on one of the screenshots.
It seems that either they will make a honorable reboot or shit all over the Thief lore.
For now, evidence shows the second.

Square Enix payed millions of dollars for two words: Thief and Garret. Couldn't they make a new franchise and call it Assassin's Redemption and the protagonist be a native american jew instead of Garret?

To be fair SE paid nothing for it. When they bough Eidos "Thief" was just another IP in their catalogue that hadn't been touched in over a decade. That's like saying they paid millions of dollars for Daikatana.

Ok the weapon selection circle will definitely be in. It's such an obviously consolish thing and while i understand that shittiness of controlers demands it i am sick of seeing it in my PC games. It's great for selecting special powers like in Crysis and Dishonored (which Thiaf won't have RIIIIIGHT?) but for equipment what's wrong with 1=sword, 2=blackjack, 3=broadhead arrow etc.?

Grab the Codex by the pussy

There's your answer: These aren't PC games. They're console games ported to the PC with absolutely the barest minimum of work done to convert them properly. The UI layout, menu screens, and overall control scheme are adapted to mouse and keyboard, but otherwise left as-is.

Controllers aren't shitty, by the way; they're just not appropriate for every time of game. They're ideal for platformers, fighting games, and racing games if you haven't got wheel and gearshift peripherals. I plug in a controller for use with platforming games.

They ARE incredibly shitty when used to play first-person shooters and, to a lesser degree, first-person action games that aren't technically "shooters", like Thief. Ironically, these sorts of games for which controllers are least appropriate now dominate consoles. In the SNES era the games being developed for consoles actually worked well with controllers.

Thief had a sequential item selection interface already. That would map just fine to the d-pad. Left-right selects item, up-down selects weapon. It's not like you need to be switching weapons like crazy in a sneaking game anyways.

Yes i meant shittiness of controllers when used for games like Thief, specifically the part where you choose between several types of equipment.

Heh when i first played Thief more than a decade ago i was mildly annoyed that when browsing through inventory you do not know what is the next item in line, have to memorize everything. Back then i was comparing it with Duke Nukem 3d where if you do the same whole inventory shows up so you can see exactly what you are selecting.

True, that wasn't the best thing ever. You could still select items with key bindings, and The Dark Mod kind of improved on this with hotkeys to select various item categories (maps, lockpicks, keys).

You mistyped the word "horrible" there, bro.
Just keeping an open mind, nothing more. DX:HR wasn't as bad as I expected.
I will simplify my post a bit. Either it will be a piece of popamole shit with fun moments or just a piece of popamole shit.
Feel better?

I just wanted to use that .gif, no more, no less.

With the share button, I'm guessing all PS4 releases will need built in recorders :M

Yeah, this isn't unique to this game. Judging by the PS4 conference literally every next gen game on the platform will have this feature at a hardware level.

So I'm not sure why they are making it out to be something special here, unless they just assume their audience is made up of fucking retards.

Oh. Wait.

So this isn't a pc-only feature? I thought this was what they meant when
