What, you mean riot gear?

I never use that crap. It looks cool, but the shield bonuses are pretty pitiful in my experience (I previewed one in the crafting pane a while back that had a 30% chance to block 10 melee damage) and tactical vests seem flat-out superior. They're even made out of mostly the same stuff. Certainly, if you're using psi beetle carapaces, riot armor is completely inferior.

The melee block chance should block ALL melee damage if successful and max out around 75-80% chance at very high component quality. "BUT BLAINE, THAT'S OP IT WOULD TOTALLY SHUT DOWN MELEE ENEMIES!" You mean like heavy metal armor rapes crossbows and tactical vests rape bullets?

Agreed. The related feat (Guard) also looks like total crap. Shield mechanics could use a rework, IMO. Right now they are a trap choice.

BTW, anyone has any tips on how to deal with Jookhela the demon Rathound? Her shadows simply rape my guy and I can't fight them back. Can't survive 4 turns either...
Yeah I took guard and kind of regret it. Was thinking it would help with making my guy a walking tank - didn't take the optimal feats. Still, you can have a not-perfect character and still be good, which is nice (at least on Normal).

Super Steel is one thing, but there's also a new moneysink in the release version. ;)

Also - would love to have Styg answer some questions after he's done with the immediate post-release support. What do you say, an AMA-type thing later? I know through devlogs we've had a good look in your process, but the way this thing came together...

Someone needs to do a doritos and mountain dew-level interview with the bringer of :incline:.

Stronghold, right? I've unable to locate when and where it was mentioned in the change logs/dev logs, but I definitely remember it being mentioned.

Of course, I also remember Styg saying (in an old Underrail Steam Hub/forum conversation) that he planned implement a powered device to help characters with low Detection and no Traps skill detect mines, but as far as I can tell that doesn't seem to have happened.

You know, it would be hilarious if the remote-controlled sentry bot from that one quest were repurposed as a deployable EOD robot that detects and disarms mines, just like military EOD robots today. The coding and scripting mostly exist already. The downsides would be that it's slow, non-convert, runs on batteries, never recovers anything, and would have to be repaired/replaced when mines explode on it.

I got stuck behind enemy lines, with about 5 HP and no way no way to heal. And no other recent saves. I'm really annoyed at this 40% restriction on the use of bandages.

Holy shit.

So I got to the quest where I had to steal the shield emitter shipment from the Protectorate warehouse. I bribed the guy to let me in the ventilation shafts since I didn't have high enough Persuasion to convince them I'm BOB. Managed to sneak in the actual warehouse and then it hit me: I couldn't stealth past the 4 guards since my Stealth is shit and in no way possible I could ever fight them. So after 15 minutes of trying I found the perfect path to run through so that I could avoid the soldiers while wearing Bob's armor, grab the shipment and then get the fuck out of the level before they detected me. Shit was so tense I almost started to shake. Fucking amazing.

There's a byproduct of the sound system where NPCs with triggered dialogue wonder all the way to the other side of the map to tell you to get the fuck out of their house. Happened to me several times.

The AR/Throwing/heavy armor commando's approach would be to walk in the front door wearing Bob's armor, tear that armor in half revealing his own far stronger suit of TiChrome armor (a la Clark Kent turning into Superman), then mow down every guard in sight.

I can't return to the doctor. I got past those guys north of the barracks that asked for a package. And after getting back on that map they shot me on sight....
That's not what he's talking about. He is talking about the feat "doctor" which allows you to use bandages no matter how low your health is. It doesn't help you, you are simply SOL.

How did you get two autosaves deep behind enemy lines?

Never run past alerted enemies and zone into another room unless you know what you're doing. I can't think of any other way you'd have gotten yourself trapped. I believe there are a few ways to cheat, but I don't know them and I don't want to know them.

Moreover, don't engage enemies or push forward into uncharted territory if you're low on hypos, batteries, or other needful supplies.

Now i know!

I thought it was a bit silly for them to ask me to meet "gorsky", and then make me go through tons of enemies to get there. How did gorsky get there in the first place?

Anyway, i will probably leave them game here and play it again in some months, because i'm not in the mood to repeat those boring first fists. I'm sure this is like fallout and the early game is the least good part.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
The jackhammer was the best investment I ever made. Thing is the heaviest piece of equipment I have as a light armor dagger-psi-and-smg kind of character, but it's worth lugging about because it opens up the exploration quite a bit. I love having shortcuts, and I love being able to get into semi-secret places. Destroyed a rock that blocked some passage somewhere in the northern caves (north of Rail Crossing station), got into some creepy abandoned bunker with robots and cryo-mutants, and found two mutagen containers in there which count as a unique item. Yay.

I have two or three of these unique items now and have no idea if they will ever come in useful. Zero weight, different-colored name that makes them look unique, and a general sense of mystery surrounding them.

This game is awesome.. I just finally got it fired up today, Went for a AGI / STR build focusing on dodging and mellee weapons.
It's just a blast. I love the oddity system, Although I was curious when do I get PSI abilities?

Gonna build my character on the train tomorrow! I think I'm going with some sort of tinkerer character. Traps, gizmos, hacking and stuff.

I'd like to reignite codex' interview efforts in the next year - Styg would be a prime candidate.

Fairly early on, after the first quest of powering up the outpost, Hadrian will tell you to visit the doctor on the medical level and there you will have the opportunity to swallow a pill that will unlock your Psi potential and from then on, you can learn psi abilities from trainers and special items.

He tells you before you do the outpost quest. You can just go to medical immediately.

You can get psi as soon as you are done with the tutorial, just go to the medicine and psi floor and talk to the doctor.

I somehow thought that unlocking psi was part of the main plot, and by the time I realised it reduced my HP by a lot even though I never planned to use it.. it was already too late. Retard.

I look forward to your steam review, sir.
