I get a headache thinking about all the backtracking to vendors after every fight :negative:
Speaking of vendors, what is the official codex(tm) position on the salesperson feat that scales off your mercantile? I hate having heaps of stuff I can't sell.

Fuck it, soon I will spend more time contemplating my build than actually playing.
The Underrail Experience.
The actual Underrail Experience™:
1) Spend a disgusting amount of time theorycrafting
2) Spend a far more disgusting amount of time playing the build (without the use of Cheat Engine cause you're autistic)
3) Get bored by the time you hit Expedition
4) Repeat steps 1 to 4.
It's like every single build I try out takes a little piece of my soul away from me.

Suboptimal building. Get Cheat Engine or get used to LARPing as a traveling Infinitron.

Subj has so much loot that one really needs to learn how to deal with it all as soon as possible. The easiest thing to learn is to just fucking leave stuff (it'll never dissapear). If you are autistic then hoard it all if you must but still dump right away at chosen spot near the exit of the location. If you're reasonable guy, then just pick only the most valuable items/stuff you actually need. The other great option is to recycle at the spot/make some repair kits. Another alternative is to hoard & dump relatively valuable items at your apartment (larping) or at some particular spot for selling later if ever (mini-spoiler: later on it's much easier to sell stuff).

That said, in the early game picking it all is kinda ok I'd say, at least on DOM.

my position is: on dominating money given by vendors is so bad that I just dont bother. Only pick ammo and expensive&light electronics.
And I usually try to hit all hidden merchant stocks so its not like I get the worst rates possible, still they are quite bad.

From time to time i return to home base to dump excess consumables into container

Guys, what minimal weapon skill requirement does? Weapon can still be used and I a quick test shows no thc penalty.
It should be lowering hit chance. The penalty depends on the difference between your skill and the requirement so if you're only a little low then it shouldn't be too bad though. And if you are way below the requirement then your skill probably sucks so you wouldn't have good hit chance against level appropriate enemies anyway. Not really sure why skill requirements exist.

Jesus fuck, I can't buy rapid reloader even with cheat engine at Junktown. What the hell? Like it's been removed from the tables or something.

Edit: got it from Blaine though.

Started playing this again. I played it through to the dark caverns years ago, but then ragequit. The Dark Shitverns experience kinda soured me on the game, but now starting it again, I recall how the game is actually quite fun up until that last part.

Aside from the caverns, I think eventually the massive size of the game and the endless underground corridors on samey looking maps catch up with you a bit, but at the start, when you are just helping South Gate station, and learning the world, it's got those nice Fallout-y feelz.

Making a quickdraw type gunslinger build with firearm pistols. Rapid fire + Spotshot, Aimed Shot + Knee shot. Expertise, gun nut, high crit chance with Recklessness, steadfast aim (with .44 hammerer) and seeker goggles, very high Initiative. One nice thing about Underrail combat is that super high initiative always works and gives you first shot in fights. With my build, that means I can often take out many of the enemies before they can even do anything. But I will probably ragequit at DC again, fuck I hate that area.

Deep Caverns has been changed a ton since then, so it's a lot less of an assfuck. Can skip a lot of shit, deal with Tchort, and then explore the remaining areas at your leisure.

Here's my unasked advice: all you need is bullet time and make the gameplay around it (like getting contraction). Almost all of these feats like spotshot and even aimed one are next to useless. Pumping crit chance is the right way to go though, yeah. As for high initiative - that's a nice bonus I guess but almost redundant if you play with stealth right (why wouldn't you or at least armor up then). Also don't forget to have fun with other kinds of pistols which again, don't require said feats in order to be fun like acid ones or fire/cryo.

By the way, DC are fucking awesome and that's why you'll probably disregard anything I wrote :) The feeling they translate is something else. Also you just need to learn how to deal with it in order to enjoy like learning the spots for dropping the creep stacks etc.

Spotshot = Point Shot. Its use in my build is that if you use Rapid Fire (1.5 AP cost), which is the centerpiece of the build, you have .5 AP left over, which is too few to use on most other abilites, but Point Shot gives you regular damage for .5 AP, at the cost of some accuracy (which later on doesn't matter). Sometimes also you might need to use AP for movement, healing, reloading, etc, so having an ability that can go for less than full attack AP is very useful.

Aimed Shot is a guaranteed crit for when Rapid Fire is on cooldown. So my usual rotation would be Rapid Fire/Point Shot, followed by Aimed shot/Kneecap Shot, and on repeat.

I don't use stealth on this build, for RP purposes. It's more like a quick-draw gunslinger, draw first (super high initiative), and then kill fast.

By the way, DC are fucking awesome and that's why you'll probably disregard anything I wrote :) The feeling they translate is something else. Also you just need to learn how to deal with it in order to enjoy like learning the spots for dropping the creep stacks etc.

Maybe to you, cause you sound like a min/maxer, but to regular people who just want to RP, it used to be a fucking nightmare, cause the difficulty spike from the rest of the game was insane.

The point is - it's way more optimal to increase the amount of attacks through other means (like first of all run a vers build i.e max dex = minimum ap per pistol shot) and spend those feats on increasing damage as a whole (like getting psycho-temporal acceleration feat for example). The more attacks you have and the more crit chance you've got, the less useful aimed shot is right? But like I said, that was an unasked advice, I was drunk and felt like posting that, as well as I'm right now. You do you, man.

I remember playing on release and I'm not gonna lie it was very hard to me to go though DC, especially wiping out the faceless (don't remember though was it necessary) but it was a very welcoming challenge, I was so satisfied when I was finally through. Also this game was always kinda adresed to enthusiasts in the first place, not normies. Even description says so. A pity it was quite often nevertheless misleading for Fallout fans who were expecting some similiar experience to have.

Scaled the Utility tower and met the boss there for the first time (previous times on DOM I only encountered the arena masters, which are baby-tier compared to this shit). Styg is pretty funny. You walk outside the tower to freezing wind and snow and thing "hmm, the surface must be a frozen wasteland), then, at the very top, you can go to a seemingly pretty pointless area. Just a small balcony, really. But from it you see... yet more fucking cave. You weren't at the surface at all, Styg just wanted you to think that.

Underrail is such a comfy way to end the day. Although those stealthy scorpion bugs are pissing me off, my greatest moment so far is when I caught two of them fighting a plasma sentry in the powered-up base (rail crossing, get the special item and then the base powers up, then go down the elevator). Nobody paid any attention to me, but my refurbished thumper had the last word. Also went back to the junkyard to actually kill the mutants (stealthed through previously), got a nice level up from all the oddities. I guess the trick is to craft armour and be immune to acid, but I prefer the other trick of just obliterating them all with the thumper. This 40mm grenade launcher is more powerful per shot than any launcher I've been able to craft so far.

I do wish it were easier to find the special types of grenade-launcher grenades. I have the frag and high explosives, but none of the other types. They don't appear to be sold anywhere and I've never seen them as loot. Also trying to find good hopper leather, I must have my +1 agility stat, although the tactical vests are looking pretty nice...

I want to get max story/dialogue this run, so I have high will (10) and will also pump my persuasion. I will know the true secrets of the god men.

Bros,

Does MP reduction from Psycho-Dilation counts as slowing down, i.e does it trigger +15% dmg bonus from opportunist?

Heading to the Junkyard now, wonder how will the Depot go on DOM.

So far the SMG build is doing fine - haven't even used bear traps nor caltrops yet. Versatility and pumping points in melee makes early game a smooth sail, especially that you're poor as fuck and bullet starved. My only worry is that I may have spread some skill points too liberally (first time ever put some point into psi, TM branch is just too good to skip) and won't be able to pass some lockpick/hacking checks that would make Depot easier, or craft good enough gear.

Yeah TM is too good and fun so I included it as well but just now on 19lvl. Could earlier ofc when you're hitting that sweet 55 skill limit spot but decided that crafting is worth investments more + hp is sparse as is so taking psi empathy later on is nice (note that I'm not playing a total glass canon though).

As for dilation+opportunist sinergy most probably yes but hardly worth mentioning since that will matter only vs some bosses, the opportunity cost of the cast is pretty high.

How may waves of exosoldiers do I have to kill? I think I've killed five waves but I'm starting to run out of ammo

All mercantile feats are useless since they don't do anything you won't get just by waiting.

Damn, I'm just before Depot A and still missing 8XP to get to lvl 8 and get Spec Ops - the only quest left are Silent Isle/Blaine/support for Eels/Free Maura. Not sure where to farm the rest - I got 2 missing beetle brains but guess that's all. Cleared the lower passages from lurkers too - any idea where I can score something? Never had this problem before, I always hit lvl 8 just before Depot. Guess I got uber unlucky this time with random drops.

Also, I haven't looked into some important thresholds and kinda fucked myself a bit - can't craft SMG with muzzle brake, since it requires 45 mechanics and I'm 4 points short. Thankfully I saved game on each lvl up, so can go back and bump it (but then again, I will have to farm similar frame and muzzle brake, ehhh).

Many feats are "useless" since they don't do anything that you won't get just by doing stuff like reloading. With some builds all you really need are 3 or 4 crucial feets. At least that's my guess.
