Isn't the new release of Powerlave Exhumed the best version of the game, since it's a combination of the superior PSX/Saturn versions? Is there any reason to try any of the older ports and mods for the PC version?
IIRC the console and PC games have completely different levels, and there are minor differences between PSX and Saturn. The new release combines the "best of both worlds" of the console version, but having a separate way to run the PC version properly means everything is available in the most optimal way.

Last time I tried getting this one to run properly I had a hellish time. I'll have to try again with this patch, hopefully it's more recent and solves some of the problems.

Looking forward to the angel of darkness post.
BRO, TR series ended with TR3. :obviously:

Speaking of which...

How to play Tomb Raider 3 in 2022?

Sadly, there's no source port for TR3, as opposed to TR1 (Tomb1Main) & TR2 (TR2Main). So you have to do everything manually.

1a) GoG / Steam users: install the game. Game should be Win7/Win10 compatible.

1b) Vanilla CD / image users: insert / mount CD and install the game.

2b) Install Tomb Raider Series Multi Patch (it makes the game Vista/Win7 compatible).

3) Run the game. Set it up:

YIIffCU.png

I went with 1920x1080 'cuz why the fuck not + disabled gamepad, since a) game only supports DirectInput, so Xinput pads won't work & b) my DirectInput pad doesn't work properly anyway (only left stick works, but not buttons). We will need sth else for gamepad support...

Game should run. Problems:
  • FMVs won't play without the "Win7" or "WinXP" or "Win98" compatibility settings.
  • 2D elements have wrong aspect ratio (original game is 4:3), plus are kinda borked (vertical line near Lara's left boob):

    LNv1x6Z.jpg

    rJ25204.jpg

  • 3D isn't properly scaled either:

    VMRa53a.jpg
It looks like we need ADDITIONAL PYLONS...

But wait! There's more...

4) Fixing broken secret counter

Not visible, but vanilla game has a bug related to counting secrets (TR1 was the same). "Coastal Village" mission only counts 3 secrets properly, instead of 4. To fix this, you have to use TR3 Patch: Extra Secret Fix by Suikaze Raider. There's an installer for GoG / Steam versions, but for the "vanilla" CD version you have to modify the .exe yourself (Manual Fix Tutorial). Which is piss-easy, as long as you've used a hex-editor even once in your life:

9PLsmdH.png

BROs, to make your life easier, I've prepared a "base installation" file, which has both the Multi Patch Fixes and Extra Secret Fix already applied. Get this shit here:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/jcctcs0tjegp4ni/

To "install" the game, all you need is to:
  • Extract contents of this archive somewhere.
  • Copy required data folders to the "Tomb Raider 3" directory, either from the CD/image or the GoG / Steam installation. These are: audio, cuts, data, fmv & pix.
And that's it. :obviously:

Well, almost...

5) Going Widescreen & playing the game

You have two options here:

a) Not recommended

- Set the compatibility of the Tomb3.exe to "Win7" / "WinXP" / "Win98" (check which one works best for you).
- Use the Tomb Raider 2-3-4 Widescreen Patch to modify the Tomb3.exe, setting desired AR & FOV.

b) Recommended

! Actually, use dgVoodoo2 instead of Peixoto's patch - info in one of next posts.

Grab the Peixoto's Multipatcher (link to the old but gold version, since the new one is bloated & doesn't work properly with TR3).

Advantages over previous method:
  • proper widescreen, AR & FOV out of the box
  • fixes borked menus
  • deinterlaced FMVs + FMV scaling + support for HD FMVs (doesn't work for me)
  • configurable Xinput support
So, grab it, extract, run the help.exe, configure the game:

FBNWUkL.png

I would recommend enabling "Force native resolution" to prevent the game from switching to 640x480 for FMVs and messing with pulpit icons + set the "FMV scale" to 2 or more).

Create special shortcut for the game (uses Peixoto's patch to run it). And voila:

Z2UxJ2j.jpg

CKpfRAj.jpg

0s5BYQ4.jpg

As you can see, 3D elements use widescreen with proper AR and UI glitches are fixed. We're almost there!

PROTIP:

If you get a black screen at any point (audio plays, but no graphics), just run the "Peixoto Link" while holding Shift and re-set game's settings (mainly resolution).

6) Making 2D elements "widescreen"

Grab the TR 2 - 5 Widescreen Fix by TRJTA. Extract TR3-related content to game's folder. Game now looks like this:

uqHA8ex.jpg

OlraFBw.jpg

:incline:

Not a perfect solution (2D backgrounds are pixelated due to the high res), but looks decent. To use the high-res backgrounds, we would need a source-port (original pics are 640x480).

Remaining problems:

3D UI elements like health / air bars are kinda small, and font is not the best to read, but nothing can be done with these problems ATM (except making a source port).

DaTLndH.jpg

So, that's it methinks... Unless you need even more ADDITIONAL PYLONS? :smug:

7) Applying an Unofficial Patch by Sardoc

This shit includes many fixes (models, textures, audio track) and also entirely removes the "health crystals" from the game (optional). Recommended.

8) Gamepad support

a) Xinput pad? Enable & configure gamepad support in Peixoto's patch:

C4KXweF.png

b) DirectInput pad? Use JoyToKey or sth similar.

vs0zlog.png

And now that's really it.

Thanks for reading, don't forget to like and subscribe, you cunts.

Gotta hand it to you Spekkio. While the world, especially the West, has been going down to hell this past decade, the Codex becoming even dumber and stupid with many of the good 'dexers leaving for one reason or another, and gaming suffering as well, you still keep doing your own stuff for the benefit of everyone.

Aww, thanks man.

Agreed on current state of 'Dex, though. Trolls : Useful posters ratio was much better back then than ATM. But I think this can be expected, with the "you can say fuck or nigger and post porn" websites becoming more and more rare with each year...

Good night guys. I fear that this thread is only for posting solutions (patches) for games but due to searching the internet for a solution to an issue with the controller for "WINGS REMASTERED" I decided to ask here if anyone knows a solution/patch for the controller to work properly. The issue is common and reported by all that own the game. Thank you.

Please, delete this post if this isn't the right place to post this.

BROs, short update from the Tomb Raider 3 front. Sadly it turned out, that the solution described above (use Peixoto's patch) is not optimal. I've realized in Nevada levels, that there's a bug related to "thin" 2D textures like vegetation and (much more importantly, since it can kill you) barbwire. What's the problem? Well, it's practically invisible, as long as Bilinear Filtering ("Filter" in Graphics Options) is enabled:

svYmyfe.jpg

"Filter" disabled:

8cDtBRX.jpg

:(

Solution: use dgVoodoo2 instead of Peixoto's patch.

Comparison:

a) Peixoto with following options:

0PhsMbN.png

No menu bug + widescreen + proper FOV, but the barbwire (and wire net of the wall) is fucked:

92WY491.jpg

92WNODk.jpg

Font doesn't look that good either:

RlVGBCC.jpg

:decline:

b) dgVoodoo2 (plus Tomb Raider 2-3-4 Widescreen Patch) with following options:

xHYF5rE.png

No menu bug + widescreen + proper FOV, barbwire and teh wire look properly non-anorectic:

sRXU2wk.jpg

UgmtcFw.jpg

B21ZYje.png

And font looks much better (filtering disabled for menus?):

jd8gefZ.jpg

:incline:

Todo list...

1) Grab newest dgVoodoo. All you need is the "main" zip.
2) Extract four files from the dgVoodoo2_XX_X.zip/Ms/x86 (wrapper for x86 Windows apps) to game's directory:

fEDpKWf.png

3) If you want to tweak dgVoodoo's options, you can also extract the dgVoodooCpl.exe there, or somewhere else. dgVoodoo2 uses "general" settings file, stored in desired location. I haven't touched the options at all, you should only disable the watermark when you're sure that the wrapper works properly.

XASxLhW.png

SdYFOoH.png

4) Get the Tomb Raider 2-3-4 Widescreen Patch, extract to game's directory and run it. Set desired aspect ratio & HOR value of your desired resolution:

eBepIdj.png

5) Run the setup (tomb3.exe -setup) and play the game.

And that's it!

PROTIP: I started getting crashes when accesing the "passport" (load save exit). It looks like disabling the gamepad in setup caused this. So, don't.

PC master race out. :obviously:

That's not the gaypad, it's sth related to graphics. If you access the "Detail Options", either right away in main menu or after loading a savegame:

iyThUOR.jpg

The game will crash 100% when you acces the passport and press left to save or quit:

5Pkr0A0.jpg

So, set up all "Detail Options" (not that there are many), quit the game to save them and keep away from this menu. Played for about an hour, no crashes in other situations so far.

Wouldn't at this point be much easier to emulate a console version of TR3 than trying to make the PC version work?

Why not TR IV (Last Revelation), but TR III?
Thanks for the detailed instructions by the way. Haven't played it since early 2000s, maybe I can give it another go. And about "DgVodoo";is it only for main games or can you use it with custom Tomb Raider levels as well?

IMO PC version performs much better (no texture poppin', ability to remove health crystals) than the PSX version.

But I must admit, I was thinking about that for a moment.

Recently I've decided to re-visit TR - Legends (which turned out to be a gigantic mistake), and the PS2 version is much easier to set up than the PC version. Emulation FTW.

I hate TR : Legends with a passion. Crystal Dynamics ruined the original game's sense of isolation / no hand holding exploration and turned it into a wannabe Hollywood movie. Plus, they didn't give a new " TR : Level Editor" to the community. There were many defenders of Legends on forums -like "tombraiderforums.com"-; I didn't understand them then, don't understand them now either.

Should work with custom levels no problem - it's based on .dlls, not .exe modification.
Why not TR IV (Last Revelation), but TR III?
IMO TR4 is

:decline:

First TR game I've struggled to complete back in the day + watching YT LPs I have 0 interest to go back to it now. Brown slums and ruins - the game. Plus: "Use the shit you just found in one of 12 previous levels". Hard pass.

Allright, thanks. I'll try DgVodoo with some custom TR III levels.
And about TR4, I agree with you. I put my nostalgia glasses off and played it a few months ago; had the same experience with you. The best thing about TR4 is; there are many solid custom levels built with TR4 engine.
By the way, I have used "www.trle.net" for a long time for the custom levels; but recently I have discovered a new site; "https://trcustoms.org/levels". I liked the user interface better, and has a faster download speed as well.

Star Wars : Jedi Academy

There are two forks of OpenJK (a source port of JA) for modern systems, with some quality of life improvements. One fork is for singleplayer, other's for multiplayer.

Singleplayer : JK Enhanced
Multiplayer : Eternal JK

Widescreen Resolution
These clients should set your in-game resolution to your desktop's automatically. But if not; you can manually set your widescreen resolution via console. Open the console and enter these commands :

r_customWidth 1920
r_customHeight 1080
r_mode -1
vid_restart

Dismemberment effects for Light Sabers
In vanilla state, game tunes down the light saber dismemberments. To make it as intented, you can enter these console commands :

helpusobi 1
seta g_sabermorerealistic 2
seta g_dismemberment 3
seta g_dismemberprobabilities 40
seta broadsword 1

(For multiplayer, enter the commands below)

seta g_dismember 100
seta cg_dismember 2
seta broadsword 1

Some other minor mods

Better Light Sabers : Episode III Blades
Better Fonts : High Quality Fonts
Blood Effects : Blood+
HD Textures : JA Texture Overhaul (In my opinion, original textures are perfectly fine. But I'm an old fag who thinks any graphical technology past 2004 has diminishing returns and waste of money / time / pc power. So for normal people, I added the link of HD graphics)

Unreal Tournament

( spekkio already mentioned patches about UT in his awesome entry. But I want to add a few things to it and make an all-in-one entry. )

OldUnreal Patch v4.69b : This patch has the latest bugfixes, audio and 3D renderers. I recommend "OpenGL" for video, "OpenAL" for the audio renderer. But of course, it is hardware dependtent, you can pick others as well.
(Currently there is a "v4.69c Release Candidate 4" version of this patch. But since the last stable release is still "v4.69b", I linked that version)

UT99 DInput : This is the mouse acceleration fix for a better aiming experience. Go to the "Input" menu and change the "Mouse Input" option to "Direct Input".

FoxWSFix99 : Automatically corrects the FOV adjustments and weapon positions for widescreen monitors / high FOVs. In order to make this patch work, you have to do the followings :
1.Extract the zip file in your UT folder.
2.Open your "UnrealTournament.ini" and find the line "Console=UTMenu.UTConsole" .
3.Change it to
;Console=UTMenu.UTConsole
Console=foxWSFix99.foxUTConsole
4. Done

Bonus Pack 4 : "Game of the Year" edition doesn't come with that pack. It has some new maps and player models.

Anisotropic filter activation : If you feel textures are blurry, you can activate anisotropic filtering via the console. Open the console and type "preferences". Click on "rendering", pick your renderer and find "MaxAnisotropy" line. Change the value as you desire (Between 1 - 16).

BROs, it's time for the final TR post...

How to play Tomb Raider 3 Gold - The Lost Artifact in 2022.

1) Get the game. It's not officially available digitally, so you need either a CD-image or a CD.

2) Get my "base installation" file from here:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/f5sqypm4ruvjn2i/

And extract its contents somewhere.

What's been done to make it:
3) Copy required data folders to the "Tomb Raider 3 Gold" directory. These are: audio, data, fmv & pix.

4) Run "setup.cmd":

YIIffCU.png

And play the game. Problems: stretched 2D & 3D elements, wrong FOV, glitch in the menu / loading screen, bad font:

MMn2Iys.jpg

ZCs6h7i.jpg

jXVQBN0.jpg

Fixing all this shit:

a) Rendering errors:
  • Grab newest dgVoodoo. All you need is the "main" zip.
  • Extract four files from the dgVoodoo2_XX_X.zip/Ms/x86 (wrapper for x86 Windows apps) to game's directory:

    fEDpKWf.png

  • If you want to tweak dgVoodoo's options, you can also extract the dgVoodooCpl.exe there, or somewhere else. dgVoodoo2 uses "general" settings file, stored in desired location. I haven't touched the options at all, you should only disable the watermark when you're sure that the wrapper works properly.

    XASxLhW.png

    SdYFOoH.png
b) Widescreen & FOV + proper scaling for 2D menu backgrounds & loading screens:
c) Additional fixes:
5) Run "setup.cmd":

xHYF5rE.png

And play the game:

N3XQkLm.jpg

5rdGHeq.jpg

exjVapA.jpg

:obviously:

PROTIP: Don't access "Detail Options" (unless you need to), or the game will crash after accessing "Passport" and scrolling left / right (dgvoodoo / high res problem).

Does anyone knows how to make Clive barker's Undying to play in widescreen? I've tried few patches already but the game always hang up on desktop and I can only kill it in task manager...

Dunno if it was this patch or another, but I remember it fucked up the controls, forcing me to rebind EVERYTHING. Still, it's worth a look.

I went back to play The Thing after 20 years. Played it on release and it seemed too popamole for me at the time, but little did I know of the true horrors to come to gaming in the coming decades.

https://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/thing

I had to use this DX8 wrapper or it wouldn't run: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1039-the-thing-suis-wrapper/

It requires Official Patch 2: https://www.patches-scrolls.de/patch/4339/7/

I can't get the FMV to work, though. It's only a few intro movies so no big deal. They are .MPG files and for some reason I only get sound with a black screen.
