Don't know how you escalated from "they should turn this ugly filter off for taking screenshots" to "OMG GRAPHICS SUCK"

Plus, they don't even need to do it, the textures are low-res enough to be blurry at a large distance.

What people ARE actually saying is - it misses the artist hand.

Its soulless.

It looks like something i, or anyone else could do in some editor, if i waznt that lazy.

Yeah geez it's not like anyone is complaining in here.

A wasteland 1 release would be nice if it wasn't so easy to download the game for free and get it working on my computer.

The colors are much better than they were previously. This is no doubt due to my criticisms.

Horrible effects, shitty camera. boring palette and shit textures. But what's beneath all that will save it. And as long as we get enough options in the menu to turn all the bloomy dof off there is no big problem.

That DOF effect is bad, I see no reason to have it. Usually that kind of effect is something that you put on when you have a shitty graphics card, and want to improve performance. What role does it play here? Is it supposed to tell me that those big huge things in front of my face are close to me, and those tiny things down there are far away? Do they expect people to be running this game on something that can't handle W2's hyper realistic graphics?

Can't wrap my head around it, halp!

Wait isn't it the other way around? DoF actually hurts performance. It's really noticeable in some games like Risen.

It was famously used in Duke Nukem Forever to hide all their shitty low res textures. But I think Excidium is right that the same scene rendered with DoF will be more taxing than without.

Im curious to see how the DOF effect will look in motion/animated. If its dynamic and flexible I could see it enhancing the look of the game as objects come in and out as you wander through the scenes, static screenshots may miss this interaction.

If you want to see how a relatively low-fi 3D game (like Wasteland 2) looks with DoF effects, play NWN1 with NWShader. It's not so much that it's ugly, it's just kind of, uh, redundant? I guess there are people who think it looks cool.

I wouldn't expect Wasteland 2 screens to be AAA-beautiful.
Nobody does.

I'm just reacting to the general pattern of complaining about W2's pointy knees every time a screenshot comes out.

Where are there pointy knees? I didn't give my fucking money to these assholes for them to make people with pointy knees! This is a fucking outrage.

You guys realize these screenshots are the same ones that appeared in Gamestar.de and were probably taken at least a month ago, I hope
Yes, but it would be nice to know if they've decided against this blurring effect or not. Since this is the newest update and it still has screenshots with the blur are we to assume it's still in? @Brother None?

inXile's stance on Depth of Field (as posted by Brother None on the WL2 forums) is "We like it."

Take out of that what you may. My own take is summed up by "rofl".

depends on how your engine is structured. if you just slap dof as a kind of post-production on the rendered image without any changes at all it sure burns resources. if you integrate it in your renderer to blur the distance (e.g. to hide the load and swap of lowres models and textures) it helps to improve performance. in this case dof is kind of a "better looking" view distance fog and clipping plane.

While I am not one to start insulting and saying the game will be awful because of that (I just _know_ I will enjoy it thoroughly), I am indeed saddened by the fact that it will only last around 20 hours. Part of the appeal of a RPG is that you know you're in there for a long time, and when you finish it, well, fuck yeah! Shadowrun Returns was also a disappointment in that respect, I hear.

Are those 20 hours only for the main quest or are sidequests also included in the count ?

I'll second the comments about the DoF. The ground is far too bright (did InXile mess up the colour balance?). Other than that it looks okay, I guess.

I'd say that absolutely speaks in favor of everything else we heard about WL2 so far.
