There seems to be a save limit in place now. One that resets after scene transition.

And on another note, bladed appears to be quite potent a skill this time. At least this early on; I've only just cleaned the wreckage of Highpool. Combat knife with a grip tape on a sufficiently specialized PC carves through anything with ease.
Though of course now that I've said that and go further, the house of cards starts collapsing fast.

I'm trying Opportunist on this playthrough despite everyone talking about how bad it is. With so many characters, it makes sense to have some do the opening strikes and others do the "finishing". If it was a single-character game, obviously it would suck, but in a party-based game I think it can be a big advantage if used intelligently. We'll see I guess.

Well the problem is you must basically concentrate fire on one target and then take the last shot with the Opportunist character. Personally I dislike using such focused tactics I prefer to have more flexibility. I also realized that contrary to the description that the quirk for extra skillpoints is actually best used on a character with 10 int. the drawback is rather minor and you can reap around 25 extra skillpoints endgame wise which is quite good for a max int/cha skill mule/leadership character.

Interesting; I find that the Opportunist makes combat more interesting as I have to think a little more to leverage that character's ability effectively. Helps keep me awake. Plus it's just fun to see the flying text for Cheap Shot whenever she strikes :)

suprising that for people game runs the same.

For me game runs noticeably better. My GPU doesn't burn hole in ground anymore on graphics from 2005. Game also does look a lot better (aside from that crappy cam).

Will finish first TW3 expansion and then i will go into W2DC

Alright, my impressions: (Disclaimer: I'm only half way through Highpool)

PROS
  • Graphics - It looks much better, while still using a lot of WL2's original textures, the new lighting engine really helps add life to things. My only complaint is that certain parts don't look.. post-apocalyptic. You could make an argument that it wouldn't be realistic or practical for things to have that Mad Max-look but there were parts where I felt like Wasteland 2's more scrappier style would have felt more atmospheric.
  • New Skill Selection UI - Thank christ. The awkward switching of CNPCs to unlock a door is no longer required. Instead you click on the object, and it gives you a list of which skills you can use on it, and your chance of success. I kinda wish this system had been extended to other uses however, such as using the shovel.
  • Character Models - Much, much better. It's clear they spent most of their time working on this aspect, for an Isometric game they look great. From what I can remember I don't see any new customization options, but what is there looks great.
  • Improved Combat Flow - Now, I'm playing on Seasoned (I'm going to bump it up to Ranger mode when I next play), however, I'm getting the feeling they've tightened up the flow of combat. The AI seems unchanged, so not quite perfect, however, trash mob combat takes less time than as compared to the game on release. That being said, AI is still the same as WL2 so don't expect the early game battles to leave you sweating. While you miss a lot early on, as soon as you can hit things even the starter weapons become reasonably deadly killing tools.
  • Perks & Quirks - I like it. It adds more depth to the Character System, however, it would have been cool to see more than one or two of them have an effect outside of combat situations. Also, while I cannot say yet, I get the feeling these quirks will become next to useless late game as the CNPCs max out skills.
  • Expanded Writing & Story - So, it seems minor changes have been made to writing across the board. Now while I haven't seen anything too major quite yet they seem to have added more detail into places that didn't really need it. I'm not considering this a negative point as it still adds something to the experience, however, if it weren't there you wouldn't notice it at all.
CONS
  • Trade UI - Yeah, it sucks. It sucks bad. The original Trade UI was much, much better, this one takes up the whole screen, separating the Buy and Sell options. It also proves to be unintuitive, I've had to click 2-4 times on an item just to get it to either buy or sell, they've also removed the ability to stack up items to buy or sell.
  • UI Scale - Holy shit is the UI big. Everything takes up the screen to the point where I have to look across my whole screen just to see the different menu options. I get it's for consoles but please add an option to scale it down. What is interesting is that no change has been made to the Dialogue UI, console gamer eyes are going to be stretched to their limits.
  • Precision Strikes Useless in Early Game - Yeah, same problem as the Headshot mode, so far I haven't used them at all. The chance to hit has always been either below 10 or in the negatives, and I fail to see any major benefits from this either.
  • Camera - I believe this is going to be fixed but be aware: The camera limit really causes an annoyance, I'm constantly having combat start because I can't see enemies that aren't very far away from me at all.
  • No Formations - I get this was never confirmed and all but this really would of been a great addition. Having to try and quickly set up my Rangers for combat hoping I don't get caught is an annoying experience, especially if my Sniper or Medic end up right at the front in front of all the enemies.
Overall, I like it. While it still has problems it still works as a major improvement over Wasteland 2, I just hope they still do the Mod Kit that was promised to allow modders to add in some needed quality of life features.

All the problems with the game and Ui stink of consolitis, why the fuck couldn't they have a different Ui on pc, and why did they remove or alter perfectly fine features on the pc version, like saving custom Rangers or altering puzzles.

I hope larian has more balls than inxile, because the later just managed to show again that the only thing Fargo cares about is money.

Anybody found any armor yet? Does it show up on your characters? They were apparently going to add it.

They didn't need to add anything to PC. They just needed not to fuck things up for completely no reason at all. As for removal or "tweaking" elements or game functions to suit potato pads, whell it was a given, every game genre ever made gets gimped, otherwise how can they stuff 100+ worth of keys on a pad and how do they replicate mouse look/aim/click on two thumbsticks ? Funny thing is, they won't sell jack shit on consoles, those guys didn't even know until yesterday this GENRE even exists. Oh and glorious potato games like AssCreed 11 and COD 27 come out in a matter of days or weeks, who's gonna bother with isometric (top down GTA 1 style in Wastelands case) games ? Fargo fucked up his main audience and people who gave him money for a specific game ( PC game) and tried to catter to imaginary audiences. Now probably every game of theirs in the future will be tailored for future ease of gamepad transition, even if they say it's on PC first and a real, proper pc game. Makes you excited to see how Larian is gonna fuck up their games, they now have gamepad native in all future games.

Yea, Trade Screen is shit. I needed 1 minute to figure out how to use it and then I wanted to not use it anymore once I found out only way to buy something was to double click on that shit.

They said later they were not able to do it.

Ridiculous. :(

Being referred to as people in cowboy hats etc, whilst wearing the nearest thing the game provides to professional armor and WL2 trademark invisible armor was one of the most unimmersive experiences in the game. Like being called a tribal when wearing PA in Fallout 2.

I found something VERY interesting:
I think they may have restored the Reagan map, there's a lot of data for map CA3, which was supposed to be the La Brea Tar Pits. This wasn't in the base game also.

Generating characters I was somewhat satisfied with took me forever, and I am still unsure about a few things.

The manic-depressive quirk is pretty funny, my guy is constantly changing all stats. Nothing for power gamers I guess but I am having fun with it.

Not sure it was such a good idea to dump strenght on most of my characters though..

Do I understand it correctly that positioning in combat does not matter? I mean with regard to flanking (as in Shadowrun) it does not seem to matter whether I attack from the side or from behind, right?

There's a perk under Perception skill that gives you a 15% damage bonus for attacking from behind. Other than that, I haven't noticed any inherent benefits from flanking. Positioning only seems to matter in regards to range, cover and weapons that have "cone attacks" for multiple targets like shotguns.

On another note, Galaxy just started downloading a 7GB patch...

Eh, refreshing your library (change the "short by" listing) will probably do the trick. That's how I got it to appear.

GOG's shitty library never changes.
