why did they remove .. saving custom Rangers
Custom Portraits still work though, at least the ones through the Custom Portraits folder in My Documents worked?
Custom portraits are nice (wonderful in fact), but Sabe is talking about actually saving a .char file once you're done allocating all your stats, skills, and appearance stuff.

I'm the type of player who meticulously builds a starting party, perfectionizing every detail, but I almost never get it so it "feels right" right out of the gate. Usually with a new RPG I'll end up restarting 2 or 3 times until everything clicks. I'll play for 10 minutes, and then go oh, I should have given that guy a rank of Perception, time to start over. In W2DC that means I have to take 15 minutes and painstakingly redo the work that I already did just to make one tiny change. And then, god forbid I start playing and realize I made a mistake and forgot to give one guy that nice Arizona tan he had in his first incarnation ... then I have to start all over again and redo everything yet again, just to get the original details correct. And when I say "type of player", I mean it; I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who does this (unless various forumgoers here and elsewhere have been lying to me).

Even so, this would all be fine and I'd just chalk it up to my OCD and not inXile's fault ... except that the original game had character save architecture in place, and it was deliberately removed in the Director's Cut for no evident reason (cough consolitis cough).

Yeah, I too wanted to replay the game with my old team, had to screencap each character in old WL2 and remake them manually in EE.

Currently downloading a 7gb patch via Gog galaxy.

I tried it last night and the new buttons are BIG. The new models look good, but that should have been like that on day one, not now. When the patch finishes downloading I'll make a proper team and try it... I guess I'll go to Highpool this time around, since I always went to the AG Center first on the normal version.

Bug maybe?

It's not a bug - all buffs & debuffs are not applied to per level gains; so phobia doesn't give you extra CON and skill points. Still, I'm rolling a 10 intelligence crew atm (with numerophobia covering their supposed combat weakness) and it's awesome - better than Gifted.

Is it just me, or does the game actually seem easier than vanilla?

I'm playing on surpreme jerk and just plowing through shit.. haven't even optimized my shit either.. lel

Granted, I've been doing all quests and stuff, and I've arrived at PRison now.. enemies only got like 50-80 hp.. is that right? They hit hard though.. but the hp is real low for surepeme..

Custom portraits seem to be bugged, you need to change sex at character creation at least once for the game to fetch the custom portraits.

Also they should have taken the chance to reduce the skill usage delay, it's still too long for the amount of shit containers, traps and whatnot throughout the game...

Anybody found any armor yet? Does it show up on your characters? They were apparently going to add it.

Yes this is a huge pro for me.. There were way less options for armor during character creation in the Directors Cut which kinda pissed me off.. until I realized its actual armor your starting with.
If you unequip it your rangers actually have sexy polk-a-dot boxers.

All armor so far appears to have a unique look on your character but I'm just wrapping up Highpool so it could change later on.

You find armor as you play but anything that gives you stats still has no appearance.. shame on you inxile.

Also I much prefer the conductive system vs high Armor Rating system in regards to energy weapons, that old shit was poopoo.

Agree, it takes too fucking long for skill checks.. sigh... annoying shit. just make it instant.. and have it have maximum 3 tries to prevent save scumming or some shit..

Explosives and rocket launchers are op

Critical Failures are still a stupid idea. The fact they kept variable skill checks just further proves that the story about the High Pool Puzzle being too boring and repetitive is complete bull shit

As if anyone isn't gonna save scum when they critically fail on a safe with a 95% chance to succeed and a 1% to fail. (yes it happened to me and I reloaded before the sound effect finished)

I guess Delayed Gratification is the power gaming option since past lvl 20 you'll gain extra points? Also trying 1 Luck + Heavy Handed on my Blunt Weapons guy.

It should be persistent even after reload.

I've been thinking about replaying it, anyone tried playing with just one generated character? Can you get more companions or those are separate slots?

Recruited Pizepi... You know, the humanity never ceases to amaze me. So her "portrait" (that piece of shit doesn't deserve to be called so) was an obvious placeholder which somehow found its way into release version. OK. But, considering you've spent a fucking year on polishing this game, was it so unimaginably time-consuming to make her a decent one? Or was it so expensive? Considering the NPC portraits in this game are mostly speed-art variety, which generally cost $10 tops to commission... It's just fucking unbelievable.

I mean, look at her model - unlike the previous time, she looks actually decent. Possibly too decent, considering at the brother she's amazed at the concept that somebody will sleep with her - well, considering she came from the community of mutants who obviously slept with each other, that's a piece of dumbfuck writing, but whatever. The point is that her portrait is unbelievably shoddy and yet it's in the Director's cut. You'd wish the game allowed to replace it with her snapshot.

My memory is too hazy to determine if the old version was easier, but the DC is certainly not hard. Mostly due to my two snipers. They easily do over 50% of my party's damage so far.

The quirks are pretty underwhelming. I picked the Delayed Gratification on three of my chars and the one that prevents critical hits on you for my glass cannon. The rest looks pretty meh at a quick glance.

What difficulty level is one supposed to play this game? Does it change encounters or is just +/- %

I'm going by Original Recipe, but It was tuned for seasoned, because that was the only difficulty where the damage numbers for your weapons that are displayed on the UI are accurate. Ranger mode cuts your damage by a third, Supreme Jerk cuts it in half.

Yeah, it's OK if Pizepi is ugly, but that portrait is just ... poor.

You can replace CNPC portraits by editing the xml file in your save directory. It's pretty easy. A couple alternatives are out there for you to grab. I'm probably going to try making a new one soon since I don't like any of the available ones.

Thanks for the details.
