Oh fuck, I suddenly remembered this! Back then, when I finished MDK, I wondered why the goatfuck we had a clip of Billy Ze Kick as ending cinematic. Pretty cool song though.

For the past week on and off I have been playing Fallout for the first time, after a couple false starts in Arcanum. Recalling that my older brother went through character creation several times - similar to arcanum - I decided to hit up the fallout wiki for some stat suggestions. Is that considered bad form? I'm sure I'm missing a few quests here and there. I just added 100 days to the water chip quest timer, and set sail for the Necroplis or whatever it is called.

I also finally got my hands on a copy of Snatcher(Sega CD version) to play on the Kega emulator, as well as the english patch of Policenauts for ps1. I don't have much experience with adventure games, but the science fiction setting of those two seemed interesting. People seem to enjoy the Blade Runner adventure game as well, so that i also on my short list.

Playing Magic the Gathering - Duel of the Planeswalkers / Spells of the Ancients (the old MicroProse games) again. No idea why I keep returning to it. Occasionally some SMAC too. Also, I finished a weaboo game recently, but I'd rather not say which one since I don't want to lose my street cred.

Going through System Shock 2 rather thoroughly as I'm writing a full walkthrough and guide for it at the moment, and I'm also getting in some Dark Messiah and Heroes V on the side. I'm actually really enjoying Heroes V, it's not quite as complex or challenging as Heroes III but I really don't understand the flak it's got from fans of the series. Maybe it could stand to be a little more adventurous, but otherwise I can't complain too much. Maybe the differences become more apparent the deeper you get into the game.

I am re-installing Morrowind. Oh dear.

I'd like to play it with some mods this time around. I want to have an immersive experience with the game - what mods should I get?

I'd say "none", but then I never liked having mods in Morrowind, except for some of the official plugins. You might want to have a look at the Morrowind thread (and some older ones), as there have been a TON of suggestions, counter-suggestions and so on for just about every type of mod.

Crysis 2... what the hell happened to FPS??
Speaking of Crysis 2... I installed the patch, DX11 mode and the high-res textures, and suddenly my saves no longer work. Apparently it's an issue everyone's been having on the official boards. Oh and remember when someone was claiming in the DX11 thread that games made for DX11 could still run on DX10 just without the specific DX11 features? well guess what, DX11 can't be turned on at all on a DX10 card. Well I can always have the high-res textures... started a new game and the textures were even more horrible-looking than I remember from the 17 minutes of my first run. Promptly uninstalled the game :M

I loaded up Champions of Krynn, which indecently has a Roland LAPC1 MIDI music option ;)
:o I saw your other posts on COK and was wondering why you thought of replaying it. I only just noticed this! Funny, I checked on POR just last week and it doesn't have any option for Roland, so I checked on POD and even this one doesn't! I'll have to check if all the Krynn support it now...

Interestingly Unlimited Adventures has MT-32 Support. I'm slowly going through all the Gold Box Turn Based Games. Sadly Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday does not appear to have a MT-32 option. And FFS! They could use ALL of those awesome sound effects the LAPC-1 has built in! Just like the very smart M&M III people figured out. ;)

I somehow doubt many module developers took advantage of that and created an MT-32 soundtrack though ;)

Let me know what you find out! Though I have a small recommendation: if any of the older games (the PC speaker only ones) says it supports Tandy 3-voice, be sure to turn on the emulation in DOSBox (it's set to Auto by default, set it to On) and pick that option instead. I read about this when someone made a comment on CRPG Addict's blog (regarding Sentinel Worlds) and decided to check it out with M&M3 and... fuck me. Regular PC speaker has those horribly tinny sound effects; Tandy 3-voice actually plays the MUSIC through the PC speaker! And before you ask: no it doesn't sound as good as in Roland mode ;) but it's still so much better than regular PC speaker. Keep an eye out in Curse or even if Countdown has it (or does that have SB support instead?).

And speaking of SB support... I also listened to some comparisons between OPL3 and dual-OPL2. 2xOPL2 is what the original SBPro had (as well as the Pro Audio Spectrum), then the later revision and the SB16 used OPL3. However, as far as I can tell, 2xOPL2 sounds MUCH better. It shouldn't, because the only advantage of 2xOPL2 is using one chip for left and one chip for right to get a stereo effect, which OPL3 can do with just one chip, but somehow listening to the Dragonsphere soundtrack it sounded MUCH nicer with the dual-OPL2. Again this can be set in DOSBox, and the nice thing about that is that you can still set your SB emulation to SB16 (to get 16-bit digitized playback) but set the OPL emulation independantly to 2xOPL2 - a much better combination than what you could get with real sound cards! So check if any of the OPL-but-not-Roland games support SBPro or the PAS and try it out with the dual-OPL2 mode (in any case it will definitely be MUCH better than the regular OPL2 mode; I'll need to check if Pools of Darkness does have this mode).

Oh and I remember you like adventure games don't you? If so, you really should check out Legend's old games if you haven't. Timequest is awesome in its own right, but Eric The Unready also has a very, very nice soundtrack (and it supports dual SB and MT-32 mode) AND is a fantastic game AND is very funny - I remember it being good but after replaying it I may have catapulted it to "top 10 adventure games". Oh and Companions of Xanth is just ok, but worth checking for another fantastic soundtrack.

And FFS! They could use ALL of those awesome sound effects the LAPC-1 has built in! Just like the very smart M&M III people figured out.
Or, you know, the GS sounds in WOX. Which, I believe, you still haven't checked for yourself. Just sayin' ;)

(don't forget to do a GS reset beforehand, either through sysex or with that weird switch-flipping of yours)

I started an Argonian spellsword in Morrowind. I picked the Lady as a sign, and I am using a spear. Am I doing this right?

You can't do stuff wrong in RPG , unless you plan to powerplay/metagame.

I had read a little bit about that stuff before I started playing. I had no idea people did stuff like that - but I am not surprised.

Playing some Diablo 1 while waiting for the crack for the 1.0.1.332 patch for Civ5 to come out. I haven't played Civ5 since September last year because it was so horribly broken back then, but this patch is supposedly pretty good.

TWitcher 2 and Alice: Madness Returns are on hold because I got bored with them. :?

Wizardry 7 has pretty much taken over my game-playing time. Finished Munkharma, Ukpyr, Nyctalinth, the Dane Tower and Orkogre Castle, and as far as I can tell I'm about halfway through at most. Long fucking game.
