Why is there some Twitch stream embed popup on a thread page?

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Turns out I had enough potato in my account to get half a year ad-free browsing. Retardo the thread, this ad is no longer an issue. :smug:

People laughed when I said I have 5 ad-blockers and patron status.

Who's laughing now?
You don't actually need a single one here as long as you're a patron, given that you can turn off all the ads with an active site patron status.

This advertiser is only being tested right now so it's likely not something that will remain in the long run unless they fix several issues with it that I'm seeing already.

How come you never test this shit on sorcerers.net.. why is Codex always your dumping ground for this shit?
I test plenty of different things on different sites, you're making incorrect assumptions.

I've reported all the issues pointed out here to the ad provider and am waiting for their response.

Not sure if it's related to the ads, but if I'm reading the Codex on my phone, sometimes it hangs and crashes my phone's web browser. It's happened several times in the last few days and I'd never had that issue before.

It's truly annoying. Sometimes they can be closed after 3 seconds, sometimes after 10 seconds. On mobile the stream is always over the full screen. Sometimes the stream is for mature audiences so I'm spared watching it until I can close it.

Full page ads displaying when they shouldn't has been mentioned several times, yes, noted and reported.

Isn't this supposed to be bought with potatoes ?

I spent some years ago to deal with this shit, let me check ...

You need to spend the potato you receive on activating ad-free, yes. It's not a very intuitive system, as I've mentioned to DU before...

Good question, I've only seen it appear once in 3 days. Apparently it only shows when the streamers start streaming, but for me it's showed even way less than that. Still waiting for them to clarify whether it's also geo-limited or what.

For those who still haven't read https://rpgcodex.net/forums/threads/ad-banners-about-problem-reports.11480/ , we don't promote instructions on how to block the ads here in addition to all the ad blocking everyone is already doing as obviously that would be counter-productive. We're not putting the ads up so that they could immediately be blocked by every single Codex user. They're up so that they help pay the bills the Codex generates every month and so that all of you can keep shitposting here, believe it or not. As always, posts with instructions on how to block even more ads here will be deleted and if someone's particularly thick and keeps reposting that without bothering to read the thread I linked, they can be given a temporary time out to think about things.

If you want to disable all the ads, support the site you can't live without with a few bucks and gain ad-free access the legit way.

About that. You might want to add ways to donate anonymously. Having DU threaten to dox my first name in the Theo drama thread was a bit insulting. I don't think people will want to support the site if being doxed is in the fine print.

Regardless, I understand not wanting to tell people how to get rid of ads, but 30 second video ads are, as someone else said, beyond porn site level. I can understand it being on the main forum page, or maybe the main page of the site and reviews, but having it pop up in threads too is basically just asking for users to learn the mysterious ways around them just so they can use the site.

Btw, the fact that these ads exist at all is interesting. Is Twitch charging users for this? Or are they trying to bump up their userbase for some reason?

I really doubt anyone is going to click off whatever they're browsing to watch "plainkz" with zero viewers.

My simpathy for "donating" is dead when a certain person banned me permanently for not breaking any rules, but hurting his fee fees.

Don't be surprised when your paying customers decide to not keep paying due to your actions.

Why don't you simply do a Codex fundraising drive from time to time instead of this bullshit?
We already do occasional fundraisers when there are larger expenses like server upgrades to cover. For day to day operations, we're not going to constantly run around panhandling when passive advertising income can cover the bills same as on any other website and when we've already got a working system to enable ad-free access for site supporters. Anyone who wants to support the site already gets ad-free. Anyone who doesn't want to support it, wouldn't donate in a fundraiser to achieve the same effect either.

About that. You might want to add ways to donate anonymously. Having DU threaten to dox my first name in the Theo drama thread was a bit insulting. I don't think people will want to support the site if being doxed is in the fine print.
What constitutes "anonymously" for you? There already is an anonymous donation option, but that doesn't attribute the donation to your account, because if it did, it couldn't exactly be anonymous? I don't know if writing out someone's first name without any other info actually constitutes doxxing, but still, I don't know the context behind your issue. I doubt that DU would do something like that, though.

Regardless, I understand not wanting to tell people how to get rid of ads, but 30 second video ads
30 second video ads will not be staying, if they can't sort that out, then we won't be using these ads. That's what this testing phase is for.

Is Twitch charging users for this?
Not Twitch, the ad provider, as a means for certain streamers to gain more visibility. I assume seeing ads with no streams pop up is either a bug or an issue on the side of the streamer.
