You'll probably need to unlearn a lot of muscle memory since they don't seem to play all that similar.
Like when I tried to prep for Elden Ring playing Sekiro. Part of the challenge I guess, unlearning whatever dodge/roll/block/counter mantra you have ingrained.

It appears to me that Team Ninja is streched too thinly. Wok-e loooooooong, that new Ronin game, Final Faggotry Strangers Paradise... Looks like they'll remain a poor man's From for a while.

Kind of a dumb take. Their focus is on combat, not world-building. Better than trying to ape From's philosophies.

So shadow distance is still absolute garbage.. Number one thing I want from visuals is for them to not annoy the shit out of me with distracting pop-ins but I just can't get it from these guys. Maybe it's a good thing it's not on PC then.

lol who gives a shit about some shadow pop-in? A minor annoyance in the face of what will be an awesome game. My hype is becoming immeasurable. Really glad they chose this setting.

Trying to prevent myself from starting another Nioh 2 run so I can go into this completely fresh.

I hadn't seen any videos of this game before but I didn't really like this demo at all. Animations and collisions feel off, the models are pretty bad, parrying and evading using the same button is pretty shit and there's a lot of pre-canned animations after a "perfect" parry/evade (the window seems to be really big too).

There bullshit prefix/affix/random loot, banal shit boring. Got past the first boss and just didn't feel like playing further.

On the performance side, game is hard capped at 60fps. I got a bit of what looks like shader stutter on my 3070/5800X3D. Does this use UE5? No DLSS/FSR/upsampling options that I could see, which is pretty laughable for a recent release. At 1440p it was using around 60% of my GPU at 60fps, but 4k was dipping below 40, unplayable.

From my experience, it looks and performs a lot worse than Nioh 2.

Yep, looks like I won't be playing it any time soon. My GTX 1060 cannot do stable 60 FPS at 1080p with a mix of medium/low settings and even rendering resolution lowered to 70%. And I cannot spare almost 400 eu for a GPU upgrade. Oh well.. Game itself seemed enjoyable though, but didn't bother getting much further past the start.

The enemies display excessive martial proficiency. Chinese monsters should be creepy and mysterious, not muscular and acrobatic.

Shame what I'm seeing about the PC port in the demo version. I really wanted to play this at launch.

Is that Diaochan at 0:54? I saw Lu Bu on the red hare.

Odd that it would be capped at 60, but iirc Nioh 2 also got 120 fps support after launch. Maybe it's one of those KT things like how every Atelier game needs to have AA patched in because it is always broken at launch, lol.

I'll definitely give the demo a spin, decide whether I want to play it yet based on that. Been putting off Stranger of Paradise for the DLC and because it ran horribly at launch.

Finished the demo.

The performance was fine (not sure about the exact FPS since I don't have anything to measure it with, but I didn't notice any lagging/stuttering).

KBM controls are also fine and holy shit they actually included keyboard button tooltips at launch this time.

But there is one big but...

The mouse camera controls are fucking horrible. When you make slight movements with the mouse the camera doesn't move at all and if you move the mouse faster the camera jerks at these 20-30 degree angles. It's not smooth at all and the vertical movement is even worse where no matter how much you move the mouse up or down it only understands 3 camera positions - directly behind your character, tilted at like 30 degree and 60 degree angles. This problem also applies when trying to aim with the bow which makes aiming nearly impossible.

This is a huge fucking problem and I don't remember if Nioh 1/2 had it but I don't think it was the case. Really hope they fix it.

My second main complaint is that in both demo levels you are forced to have an NPC tag-along. I hope it's only for the first couple levels since they're basically the tutorial and the NPCs are your training wheels.

Other than these 2 issues, the game seems fun. I liked the combat and how quickly everything (including you) dies and how fast and chaotic everything seems at first but when you start to understand you start fucking everything up like you're playing DMC. The first boss was very fun and already seemed more challenging than most bosses in Nioh. The second boss wasn't as good since it's a huge monster boss with all the trademark problems these sort of encounters have (hard to tell what it's doing, camera burying into its ass, etc.)

It probably won't be as good as Nioh, but I enjoyed what little I played of it. I'm a huge action game fag and we don't get nearly enough of them. I'll probably play it on the Goiympass if I can and then buy the complete edition with all the DLCs a year later.

Just finished the demo as well and I like it a lot. The bosses are really enjoyable to fight and it makes me hopeful that we'll get even better stuff on this department in the full game. The level design is very similar to Nioh, with the addition of a jump button that gives some verticality but nothing out of the ordinary.

My second main complaint is that in both demo levels you are forced to have an NPC tag-along. I hope it's only for the first couple levels since they're basically the tutorial and the NPCs are your training wheels.
This is my only complaint so far. And I really, really hope that this is just there for this couple of tutorial levels, because playing the whole game with NPC allies would be a dealbreaker for me.

Edit: One thing that it's neutral for me so far is the reputation/morale system, that so far I just don't understand. I get it that if you die to an enemy it increases their level and make them harder. But the effect of morale on my character is unknown to me thus far.

Enemies seem more agressive (spam attacks more frequently) when on high morale and on low morale enemy footsoldiers fall down on the ground and cover when you kill a dude next to them. Or maybe they just do that regardless of morale. Hard to say for now.

It seems - at least for now - that PS5 version is a better choice. I'm debating between both, but I would prefer to get it on Steam. For those of you who played Nioh 1 & 2 on PC - how long did it take Team Ninja in the past to get the PC port in good / working condition? Something like one week, or more like few months?

IIRC I played Nioh 2 like a week after it came out on steam and everything was good. Nioh 1 port was never fully fixed (still can't bind extra mouse buttons without external software, no KBM tooltips, crashing).

Pathfinder: Wrath
Uninstall and re-installing works. Finished the first boss vs Zhang Liang.

In general, I liked it enough, losing stances + stance switching honestly feels kinda bad. The game tries to compensate using martial arts/weapon arts stuff which is kinda hit or miss so far (some of them have unclear use, too long of a windup, or both). And seems there is no customizable moveset stuff from NiOh as well. I do like that using attacks spells is pretty seamless with comboing.

I wish they had not added jumping. So far it just feels like a waste of a button and jump puzzle just triggers some sort of autism because now I try to wall jump randomly in order not to miss something. Used to be if you see something high up you simply think that there will be a ledge to drop to that location later. Now I need to be sure I am not missing some jump trigger to get to an item. It's annoying and distracting.

Chinese VA is actually pretty decent and it's nice hearing names actually pronounced correctly for once. Probably gonna play the whole game using Chinese VA. The graphics quality is OK. People who say it looks worse than NiOh2 is kinda retarded, but I think it's the lightning making everything worse. Not sure if it's matter of graphical setting. Everything does seems blurry due to lightning + particle especially in first village attack area.
