Really, there are a lot of great companions.
Anomen - Sure, he is quite a douche, but he can buff himself like crazy and charge into the fray while wielding a good blunt weapon. Really effective party member.
Jan - Awesome companion, full stop. Despite being a gnome and his crazy stories (invented by him as a result of boredom, most likely), he is a fucking monster in the late game. Once he gets access to the Use Any Item HLA and some high level spells, you will see why.
Imoen - Can she be annoying? Yes. Is she a dual classed Thief/Mage and has all the power of a Mage while having Thief skills like Find/Disarm Traps? Also yes.

Anomen is a cleric, therefore casterfag.
Jan is a gnome.
Imoen is a caster. QED, all three suck.

I have absolute confidence in Larian, D:OS2 is my third favorite RPG of all time so I have no reason to doubt they wont make an excellent BG3

Im even planning on getting the CE

Can we maybe agree on some middle ground here? Like some parts of it gon b good, some gonna suck and no it will probably not bring back those feelings we had playing the originals. Although I really enjoyed the exploration part probably on par with the classics.

Hope they have this secret build with all fucking supplemental material and a squad of ultra grognards that would make everyone here in Codex blush testing that shit. Because I'm not happy or collecting upboats when I write a post that I feel that the suppose to be fucking marketing material is a dogshit with no sustenance. I'm not expecting a complete build but at least have your first chapter with transparency so I know what direction this game is going for.

It kinda follow movies rule, if your trailer is dogshit how you expect the entire movie to be good? If your game intro is shit how you expect the rest to be good? I'm not playing an MMO to get the meme after X hours it turns into gold.

I'm not saying the release build will be completely different, I imagine act 1 will be the same more or less - map/quest/overall layout wise. But multiclassing alone will change everything regarding party composition. There will be much more other changes as well, I'm sure.

Then again, if someone dislike what one sees in the EA then release version will hardly change that.

Like assets, maps, quest design and script I don't expect them to change out of the blue unless they are planning company suicide. They might tweak encounters and/or introduce a harder difficulty that kept the encounters the way they were early in the EA. My major beef at the moment is the game system not being fully explored and I see no reason to not put those rulesets they are just more venues to customize your character and offer the players new experiences to engage with it.
Visually character customization at this point its gonna be that horrible template system with pronouns that maybe 1% of the playerbase will care about it and will have to rely on modders to do their job.

this game is going to, in fact it already has by the EA build alone, redeem not only larian but also bioware, the baldur's gate trademark, and the entire retarded setting of forgotten realms all in one go

In my playthrough I had Sarevok in my party, Viconia was telling him he is a brute and she wants to make him a slave but her male slaves in the Underdark were happy being her slaves because she gave them such sexual pleasure

LOL. But here is a hard question. In any RPG, ever, there is any companion universally liked by Codex? I never saw in any other place, people hating Aerie in BG2 and Leliana in DA:O. The unique really shit companion is Astarion. All others are from tolerable to ok.

But here is a hot take about people who complain about TB. UnderRail and Knights of the Chalice 2 would be UNplayable if where RtWP. RtWP can work for more action focused games like nwn1/2 but would't work in a more tactical game.

Tough question, the only set of companions I rarely hear the Codex bitch about are from Planescape Torment, namely Dak’kon. Morte and Fall from Grace were also good imo.
