How is marking your game as early access a problem compared to flat out just releasing an unfinished product like every other developer does?

Lots of ways. Really it is the exact same thing, sell something that isn't finished, and some small print that says early access. People should be more savvy but they aren't, so, companies exploit this by selling unfinished crap all over the place. This is also normalising the whole concept of selling unfinished crap like it is somehow ok. It isn't ok. I think the worst thing of all is that people have given away all our power. You used to get great value in gaming, you would buy a game for a fixed price, a fair price too, and there were no extras. They may release more content but it would be an expansion pack and it was huge and it was also fairly priced. But over the decades, shitlords have been constantly seeing how far they can push it. Horse armor, paying for mods, releasing empty crap games and then put some content in later as DLC and charge them again, selling games in an 'episodic' way, games as a service, etc. There is no putting the genie back in the lamp now! Companies are lions and gamers have proven they are an injured 3 legged retarded sheep in handcuffs.

This man is speaking the Gospel Truth. Decline in vidya is directly related to how much bullshit you will pay for instead of waiting for a final, released product with no bullshit microtransactions.

In BG3 you can start your journey by choosing your race, subrace, background and class. In certain cases you also get to choose a subclass, perhaps a deity.

Everyone should have to pick a deity, with the provision of an additional option called "None (Please send my ass to the Wall when I'm done)." Also, everyone should be given the opportunity to pick an Alignment. Players who elect not to should then be randomly assigned one after the start of the game, just to fuck with them. They should also have to wear a funny hat.

Funny, that. Filmmakers bury actors under a metric tonne of makeup to hide imperfections, then videogame developers roll in and advertise them as a feature.

When we equip new armor, boots, amulets, rings, capes, do they show on our characters?
Yes as you equip items they will show on characters and appear in game and during dialogues. Rings and Amulets do not appear.

What I'm curious of is whether they'll take the proper route, where armour looks the same on every class, or if they're going to pick the ridiculous Dragon Age approach where chainmail magically changes depending on who's wearing it...

Most games have been unfinished crap sold as released products since the dawn of video games, what's your point?

CLASS

In EA you’ll have 6 Classes to choose from - Cleric, Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Warlock and Wizard - each with at least two subclasses to choose from. If you’re unfamiliar with D&D, some classes unlock their subclass early at Level 1 - like the Cleric - while others gain their subclass choice by Level 3.

Generally I'd agree with you, but that doesn't really apply to Larian yet. They haven't released paid dlc since Flames of Vengeance(?) and their track record says that they'll probably finish developing this game at some point, not leave it unfinished. They probably could have made the early access release a smaller affair, but there's little point in it for them. At least they aren't doing advertisements for it, except some info releases.

The only change I see is that The Half Drow are no longer a separate race but have become a half-elven subrace.

I'm glad you guys are starting to realize how bad and damaging this game will be. It's just unfortunate there wasn't enough push back right when they announced it. I tried to warn everybody but they kept saying things like "You haven't played it" and "It's too early to tell, stop jumping to conclusions" but everything I said from the beginning has turned out to be true. You didn't believe me back then and you'll probably make the same mistake of not believing me on release day when you buy this. Listen to me this time, don't buy it.
