I was pplaying a bit an is cool but one thing which I hated :
  • Cooldowns
  • Weapons are too carnavalesque
  • Your char has little to no identity, you can go from A in willpower to D by changing your blood vessel and the jacket
  • Too little interaction in dialogs, you rarely have anything to say to NPCs and often is only two choices.
But the game is good despite this problems.

This is finally a price I can stomach ($9 on Steam), hopefully the mechanics are good enough to look past the anime of it all

How does itemization and exploration rate against Souls? Hopefully there's a decent dungeon or two in store for me.

It's shit, honestly. It's the sort of game where you think, "OK, this isn't so bad" when it starts, but as it wears on it gets worse and worse.

Honestly, I played about 10h and could say. IS a bit better than DS3 but far worse than DS1/2(my favorites, I din't liked DS3 cuz their ruined my favorite builds)

Its fun for what it is. Dark Souls it isn't, though.

Probably one of the better clones, though. Along with Surge and Nioh (the latter is much better though).

This is a bottom of the barrel souls-clone. Don't play this if you haven't already played: Dark Souls 1, 2, & 3, Sekiro, Nioh 1 & 2, The Surge 1 & 2, or Salt & Santuaray. If you have played all those, then you can play this. The only good thing to be said about it is that, as far as souls-likes go, it's better than Ashen and Remnant: From the Ashes.

I agree with this. And I also liked games like The Surge 2 or Salt and Sanctuary better than this game. I do think Code Vein is alright if you can get it on sale for $10-$15.

Blobert's somehow always right about everything when it comes to games. Heed his advice.

There's an ounce of truth to his statement. If you actually look at the steam screenshots section, there's people posting screenshots character creating waifus from other shitty Japanese porn games. It begs the question of how many people actually bought this game as a shitty Japanese porn sim and the gameplay was irrelevant to them?

I liked this game more than the first Surge to be honest, mostly because the combat didn't suck. But agreed with Carlo, there are better games to play. I would probably sort it like: Nioh 2 > Nioh > Surge 2 > Code Vein > Mortal Shell > Surge > Ashen > shit > Lords of the Fallen.

surge is where everyone is ugly tranny?

In Surge 2, the whole setting for the world is a dystopic future where clown world completely prevails over the sane, rational world. There are some misc freaks and bull dykes fitted in riot gear, and part of the game's fun is in decapitating them. I like how they did drops, if you see an opponent with a new armor, or a weapon, you can decapitate them in a specific way to get that piece of equipment they're wearing. To land stuff like parries, you actually had to time the parry, and in the correct direction, and some enemies needed multiple parries to get a finisher on, and for bosses, you might need to land 3 or 4 in order to remove a block of HP. For builds, you got stats, weapons, armor sets, implants, various items to use. Superior combat and build options to Code Vein, IMO.

I found having to swap to impaler (halberd) and other things because of blood codes and buffs made me discover a few good weapons that made the game a lot more tolerable. The impaler has a high stagger amount in its basic poke attack. very nice. in the provisional govt grounds i learned exactly how powerful the invis cloak skill you get from jack's ? code is actually gamechanging and a lot of frustrations were avoided using it. It sucks to have to buff up fortitude and dex to B? to use it but it pays off in areas that are flooded with asshole patrols and 4 friendlies.

I kinda liked the aesthetic it reminded me of a bit of the Digital Devil Saga setting , which made me wish the game was turn based like that but ah well. the game will take you on a roller coaster of love and hate depending on how well you feel you're doing vs the game / bosses for sure.

Playing this right now, its alright, bit on the easier side but the combat is responsive. Writing isnt 2020+ western crap, though its not great by any measure.

I don't think it's the worst souslike out there, that title goes to Lords of the Fallen. At least when it comes to souls likes who tried. However if you're not into anime, or at least are highly resistant to weebery, you'll be thrown off by this game immediately. The game is practically an anime in game form. Plotline, characters, etc. If you're the sort of person who likes to tinker with aesthetics while designing a character, Code Vein is really good, but then again, everything about them is anime. The level design is meh, the bosses are meh too and even more "you better use the thing they are weak against" than anything else. I do think the constant class and ability swapping is a nice touch. Imagine beating a few levels as a melee type build and you feel like switching to a ranged one. You can do that. There's also companions you can take with you, one at a time, so you can balance that out with your own abilities and theirs. They won't shut up though, so keep that in mind.

And like most anime, it has a dedicated hot springs area back at your base.

I've been playing it recently and the bootleg anor londo level is so confusing.

Dunno if someone already leaked it, but Bandai has been working on Code Vein 2 for a while now. We should be getting news this year
