Shit! You're right. Kill the Swine God is checked off. Not sure how to feel about that considering my party got wiped by a little tiny pig with flags.

Wandering the world randomly in search of maps
Man At Arms (buffs) - Plauge Doc - Houndmaster - Man At Arms (stun)

I killed the swine king and was left with: Houndmaster - Man At Arms

My biggest fault was not relieving the party of stress before doing the dungeon. I got a heart attack shortly before and well you know, 0 hp. My arrogance.

This was my first party wipe :P My biggest loss was all of those trinkets....

Where is your damage? MAA for stun? The PD can stun both Wilbur and Swine King in one attack. +15% beast damage on the HM doesn't make up for his pitiful base damage; you're better off with a Hellion, Crusader, or Bounty Hunter.

Lujo The best part is if you don't look at a guide you can completely ignore that mechanic and it won't even matter. Find any hardcore game, ignore entire mechanical systems and see how well you do. Exactly.

*Checks Steam description*

*Reads Kickstarter pitch page*

*Doesn't see game described as "hardcore" anywhere*

No wonder you're pissed off. This whole time you've been expecting a game that no one tried to sell you.

"Darkest Dungeon is a challenging gothic roguelike turn-based RPG about the psychological stresses of adventuring. Recruit, train, and lead a team of flawed heroes against unimaginable horrors, stress, famine, disease, and the ever-encroaching dark. Can you keep your heroes together when all hope is lost?"

Challenging/hardcore are used interchangably, and the devs themselves describe it as a "hardcore Roguelike about making difficult decisions with imperfect information". Every part of that is incorrect, even the imperfect information part... the only stats that aren't fully explained are the ones that are useless anyways.

it's hyperbolic to say the game isn't challenging
Like any game with a proper difficulty curve, it starts out difficult and then as you learn its systems it gets easier until you've mastered it and can play optimally. At that point, you'll rarely if ever lose party members. Celerity has reached that point and can apparently no longer comprehend the journey he took to get there (I guess 1000 hours will do that to you).

Darkest Dungeon is a challenging
Yes, although how much of a challenge probably varies quite a bit from person to person.
Yes.
roguelike
Depends on how you define roguelike. It definitely has a few roguelike elements, but it would probably be more accurate to describe the game as rogue-lite.
turn-based
Yes.
I'm just going to leave this one alone, lest we risk starting up the age-old "what is an RPG" discussion and derailing this thread (which should be about Celerity's attention whoring)
about the psychological stresses of adventuring
Stress and quirks are a core mechanic of the game, so that's a yes.
Recruit, train, and lead a team of flawed heroes against unimaginable horrors, stress, famine, disease, and the ever-encroaching dark.
The rest of this is all in the game.

Yeah, their marketing was clearly full of lies.

Google the full indie video. I'll wait.

PS: Full effective mastery required 5 hours, everything else was either trivialing a joke game, or making a real game that's actually hard (and with the difficulty increased by a factor of at least 5, mastery required non trivial time... still not 1k hours though).

But keep trolling and failing at reading comprehension. I'm quite bored of you.

Rare to see someone sink so very much energy into disliking a game. Sad.

need help with the Cannon boss on Hard. This is easily the most tedious boss (for me at least) since it feels like I can only make such meager progress at a snail's pace.
What I used:
Healer (to get party ready for boss)-Plauge (stun the matchman)-Leper (DMG)-Hellion (DMG and can attack 3 and 4 in case matchman is moved)

Clerity would advice you to use 4 Hellion i guess

Look, people going full retard. Yawn.

Oh and how is the cannon hard again? You kill an enemy who dies in one hit from absolutely everything, and then the boss never ever attacks you, it just spawns trash mobs which you can farm for loot if you want.

Uh...whatever is going on itt I don't give shit, I need halp.

Finally took the game for a spin an hour ago but hit the wall right away. On my first quest I somehow got 3 of my 4 people completely stressed out so after getting back I put them in the Abbey and the Pub to relax. Now I got 1 dude left and recruited 3 more from the coach. Problem is, I can't go on the next adventure. One of my fresh recruits is Abomination and the other ones are 2 crusaders and 1 vestal who keep saying they're not gonna roll with the creature. It seems tho I need full 4-member roster to start the next quest. Wtf am I supposed to do? I can't just skip a week can I?

If there's no other choice, you can cancel the pub/abbey treatment. You won't get the money back though. However, since the only penalty for failing a mission is some stress for everyone, simply withdraw if things get out of hand (if the character you were going to treat is about to reach 200 stress) and try again with fresh recruits the following week.

Leper is pretty useless in the fight, you need a highwayman imo to kill the guy who lights the cannon every turn, plus he does good damage to the cannon itself.

Generally it's best not to spend too much money on your team initially. Put a few upgrades into the stage coach to get more heroes each week, then send a group of green recruits into a dungeon, try to grab as much loot as you can and if your chars are stressed out, just dismiss them instead of wasting money on de-stressing them. Do that for a few weeks until you have some decent money and heirlooms.
You can also try to focus on updating either Abbey or Tavern first. Abbey is probably better, since the necessary heirlooms are easier to get, iirc.
During the missions, try to bring down stress-dealing enemies fast (Bone Courtiers, Female Cultists, Drummers, etc.).
Eventually you will want to upgrade your heroes, of course, but burner teams are a good way to make some money.

Yeah that's what I'm reading elsewhere too, it's just so damn counterintuitive for someone who has been playing RPGs for 20 years :)

True, but the game is not really that much of an RPG.
You can also start caring for your chars right away, it will work but slow down your progress.
Another important thing for making money are the curios in the dungeons. With the right items (e.g. keys for locked chests) they can greatly increase your loot, so it's usually an advantage to spend some money on certain provisions.

Yep, its sometimes called "Lovecraftian X-COM"

I would also suggest to do torchless runs - at least with "burner teams" grind runs - it gives a lot more loot imho and you dont need to pay for torches of course :)

BUt But But when you miss twice and you get rekkkt by the cannon...I agree Leper is a poor choice. Maybe I should just go all Zerg and not even take Plauge with me. But fuck if I run into some hard mobs on the way to the Cannon.
