Sounds like you've got a "difficult strategic choice" to make. :?

It feels to me like one of those pay to win treadmill games except without the pay to win part. There's no lose condition and there's nothing stopping you from sending in a team of geeks to just grab loot and flee over and over so what's the point. Forget hour 20, I was actually done with the game six hours in according to Steam when I realized I was just doing the same thing over and over.

They level scale the difficulty.

Can you actually fuck yourself into a corner if you fire all higher-level heroes due to them being ridden with psychoses and diseases and end up with noone able to go through advanced dungeons?

My understanding is "no". Dungeons are available based on your available roster. If your level 3+ guys all die, level 3 dungeons will not appear on the Embark screen until you level up new dudes.

It's kinda fun that the game is so heavily reliant on the dicerolls. On the game I've got going now (started up with the release version) things went so smooth to the point where it was getting a bit boring. And then, I got major losses on these two last runs, losing first four teammembers on the first run and then one the other run, lost two *important* leveled up teammembers. Goddamn.

Should've obviously dropped out before but... overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

I was lucky enough to get a jester on my second stagecoach and that pretty much solves all stress problems so start off with; between that and the crusaders ability you can remove 2 bard of stress in a single round and with some stuns you can pretty much avoid the tavern and abbey on the first critical levels, and if you disable the stress after combat turns you can use almost all combats to heal up
That is why I love Jesters so much; their ability to heal stress and throw in a couple of bleeds make then innvaluable for the start of the game
Plus you can summon some very decent backer hero jesters to get you started

cruelio Oh, it's coming on mobile eventually, and they have DLC plans for PC. :troll:

Ivan So, 1% chance the boss attacks you once? Other bosses still do more, not that that is saying much.

Is that a real Jester Highwayman interaction? XD

Also, Jester - start him off in slot one with finale and put some crit on him. No joke, stronger than bleeds.

Well I just lost my first guy cause I decided to attack a level 3 dungeon shambler with an undergeared party. Almost had him too. Does that mean I'm a scrublord and should fuck off to Call of Duty?

Yes, this is the biggest flaw, a huge one. Everything else, every other problem real or imagined pales compared to it. No lose condition in a game like this is a design fail of epic proportions imo. Shame really.

He he he, got my champion Swine God kill ^^

Team was:

Arbalist with Sniper Shot, Heal, Random Shot, Flare (Mostly used flare during the fight almost ever turn). [Tinkets were +5 Dodge, +10% Death Blow Res -1%crit; +20 Stun Res -2 Dodge, to make sure Wilbur doesn't stun him)
Plague Doctor w. AoE Stun, Knife stab, Battlefield Medicine, Dmg&Speed Buff (Mostly used Stun on Wilbur, sometimes the heal to take sm. off deaths door, buff on the frontilners and stab on the pig god) [+30% stun; +40% stun and some other PD stuff the very rare octopuss head)
Vestal (yes, really!) w. All Heal, Mace Bash, the -30 Dodge 50% dmg thing and the -30% Dmg -10 Acc thing (Put her in slot 2, debuffed the pig god's dodge and then damage, healed to take guys off DD) [Profane Scroll (the very rare "slot 2 vestal thing; +25% dmg vs. Beast -2 Dodge]
Bounty Hunter w Both Axe Strikes, the pushback mele stun, and mark (marked than kept twacking)

Bh had a lousy quirk which made his crit low, and the vestal got rabies on the way to the boss, and I had to spend all my rest points healing up so I couldn't even buff them properly, etc etc. That item for a front row vestal looks really stupid until you realize that slot 2 vestal skills are perfect vs the pig. She also has a darned high stun resistnace, it seems. The fight was fairly simple, everyone did their thing, it went slow, but it worked out fine. My first champion level boss! ^^

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
the only 1 i need is the fucking cannon. but it seems impossible
Try Hellion, Houndmaster, Vestal + one more that can hit the back row (Arbalest works). 3 of your guys can one-shot the matchman and bash the cannon when he's dead, Vestal heals and can sometimes stun the matchman if everyone misses him.

Aside from a thread in prosperland and an early access announcement, there is no discussion of this awesome game?

I have played this game since early access and it's one of the best kickstarter game I have ever played. It's like a twisted alchemical mixture between Dark Souls, roguelikes, XCOM, Lovecraftian horror and have the difficulty and eldritch horror upped by 10x.

So you have "inherited" your family manor and its hamlet which possess ancient horror deep within its earth. You need to hire heroes to explore the dungeons, build up their skills/equipments, find treasures in order to build up your hamlets, and in the end you need to send out your best team(s) to explore the titular Darkest Dungeon in order to get rid of the ancient evil hidden within once and for all.

...Fall asleep already? Don't. The game is FAR from your typical mainstream team-building RPG. It is unique in the field as it has the most gothic, eldritch, horrific atmosphere and is utterly unforgiving in the difficulty. Teams upon teams of heroes, be they newbies or veterans or even legends, will die. Horribly. Repeatedly. Your heroes won't just suffer from beast claws or tentacle slashes or otherwordly dark magic, but also stress. Stress is like the Sanity in Cthulhu RPGs. Suffer too much stress, even your toughest hero's mind will become twisted into a masochist which keeps hurting himself or a coward who brings down the morale of everyone else, and soon enough your whole team will break down into a nearly uncontrollable mess of pathetic losers, waiting for an eventual heart attack or getting slaughtered by the incomprehensibly horrible monsters.

The monsters of this game are so brilliantly designed. The first time you see the Flesh boss, you can't help but feel utter disgust, and fascination. The first time you meet some new monsters that you've never seen before at the lower difficulties, you can't help but have a top urge to run instead of to fight. And please don't google the Swine Prince - it's a great encounter and you deserve to face him with all the full surprises by yourself.

The game art style is unique as well. They use only minimum animation but blows feel meaty and powerful, enemies feel revolting, and heroes feel...heroic. The music is brilliant and epic and changes according to the situation. Last but not the least, this game has the BEST narrator ever. I just want to say, he is a narrator for Lovecraft audio books. That's all.

Oh by the way, this game's developers are very active and listen closely to the playerbase. They are actively pursuing improvements and new ideas. They will also release new content around March.
