Biggest problem the game has is finnicky control during combat, especially with regards to movement. A grid would have served this game well. Backstabbing position is never clear, clicking one milipixel wrong will leave you trodding thorugh fire and brimstone etc etc.

I agree, yesterday I lost a character in a fight(luckily the fight was already won) because he walked into lava.

Game's still great though.

I think Larian also kind of dropped the ball on the Codex vs. Watch thing. I've only seen it mentioned by the imps a couple of times, but at least from where I'm at in the game, it doesn't have any convo/scene of its own.
Hmm I think you haven't gotten to the main part of it yet. It's just one quest, but I'd definitely say it has a 'convo/scene of its own'. Though:
I wish the imps were a bit of a better fighting force, I reloaded after finishing and you all went down in a fireball/whirlwind :(. I was also a bit worried about them during the attack on the shelter plane. The explosion some ate seemed to do decent damage

I also couldn't disagree more with all the Baldur's Gate comparisons that pop up.

The TRULY sad travesty is that kids these days think the BG series is a classic cRPG.... :M

Exactly! Like D:OS is based heavily on the older Ultima series. Most of the general public don't even know of the Gold Box Games, Wizardry, Might and Magic, Bard Tale, Wasteland, Dragon Wars etc...

Well said JC! :salute:

Yeah I know about the item one (I never ran into it unfortunately), but I mean:
The Codex imps mention losing their Codex, that they stole from the demons. Just wondering if you ever run into it. By rich Codexer's I mean the ones that got their names in ;)

Oh, I see. Unfortunately, I don't think the Codex thing has any further meaning or significance. :P

Still, I can forgive them for that, if only because they actually bothered to voice all of the Codex's named NPCs (myself included :P)

There is something more about all that. Even a choice, and a consequence. ;)

you have to have pet pal for the quest reward at least: speak to the rabbit afterwards and he shows you an alternate way into the castle.
Good to know! Thats the 4th diff way into that place that i've know of. Should have really taken PP. More to discover on second playthrought.

Ugh. I didn't have any problems finding any of those things, and I have no words. The decline must have really taken root. :P

I wanted to wrote, I'd appreciate when... Then I remembered all these signs on roads.

Bought the game and enjoying it sooo much. Main flaws so far:

1) UI can be clunky at times. On the inventory screen I should be able to press F1-F4 to switch between respective inv screens - it doesn't and switches only the active char. Backpacks should be very useful but they aren't due to a propensity to hide behind the inv screen (focing you to realign manually) and because you can't just drag and drop items into the backpack without opening it.

A separate screen for ingredients&crafting category would be very helpful as well. As it is, I feel discouraged from crafting due to the omnipresent clutter.

More hotkey for skills&items would be nice, i.e. shift+x, ctrl+x etc.

2) The talky quests are fun first time around, but they're bad for replayability as they involve simply running around and chatting. Which is a problem considering that the first main quests involve loads of running around. I restarted at some point because I learned the character system and wanted to optimise = the first part of the MQ already felt like a chore, losing all the novelty and not having anything else to redeem it with.

3) I'm going to give a no-stealing run a go at some point but so far it seems as if you're expected to nab everything that isn't bolted down. Especially on hard. It shouldn't be that easy and consequence-free.

A basic design idea to counteract the insane amounts of theft you can do would be to introduce a global variable that measures a town's wariness. The bigger the value of goods you stole, the more suspicious the townsfolk become, resulting in increased sight cones, lower attitude etc. Finally, if you go fully overboard people would figure out that you're the only newcomer and thus are probably responsible for ruining everyone in town, and you would have to face an angry mob and get forced to make amends somehow. Or you'd get punished with permanently increased shop prices; there's many options.

At least it would force you to consider your targets instead of just snatching every damn thing of value you can spot. On the other hand, I like how pickpocketing works - good that they've managed to avoid RNG-driven savescumming picking pockets usually translates to in cRPGs.

4) It feels that some skills offer the same abilities under a different name. Say - witchcraft's bloodletting causes bleeding (which feels lacklustre btw), the scoundrel and the man-at-arms and i think something else had equivalents. More effort could've been put in to make same-y abilities more unique so that each skill puts a specific twist on them.

Other than that it's a great game. Can't wait to get back to playing it!

God, this game is so full of intended fun... at Sacred Stone, you have the fagster with his pupils, walking in the forest... certain part of it is heavily trapped... walk behind with them with high per char, spot the traps... traps activate while the dumbfuck lectures.

He kept walking and lecturing even when he was on fire and his pupils were all dead ;)

I'm basically navigationally handicapped and my friend has never played a "hardcore" RPG before. We're doing fine. This game has the perfect ratio of find-out-yourself-to-journal content. I'd forgotten how thinking for myself felt like.

It's just that the world is relatively tiny and crowded so you'll stumble on quest spots sooner or later while revealing the map

You only really need to use the one switch that's to the right of the big place with the 'locked' entrance. All the other switchs are just for fun.

Why do you need that, you can't even zoom in properly to see items you are carrying. Unless you just stare at the mirror in EoT...

"How do you buy skillbooks if you're not robbing paintings left and right?

I tried not abusing that shortcut untill I was level 6 or so and it just wasn't worth the hassle."

This game is loot heavy. Almost every battle drops decent amount of loot. Friggin' the Evylyn battle dropped like 20+ items including a bunch of magic items. I sell scrolls as I never both using them because of all the spells I get. Those golden cups also fetch a pretty penny too. I've 'stolen' a couple of things 'by accident' like a friggin' pillow, lol, in front of their owners. :P No fighting though. HA! One of them was a shopkeeper (Esmeralda?) and she just said to em that was frowned uponm and if I wanted purchase the item I 'stole' that was a nice tough. :P

This game has its flaws but it is pretty damn good.

." Madora is a freaking killing machine. For the first three levels, I thought she would be useless, but I have been proven wrong "

Two handed weapons are friggin' ridiculous - espicially if you give them haste, destruction oath, and their melee power stance.

Something I haven't seen anyone discuss: there's supposed to be a tree with a bunch of backer-messages written on it. Has anyone found it? How many messages are there and how is it presented?

In case anyone needed an argument about why those Kickstarter stretch goals of 'design an NPC/weapon/memorial/etc.' are terrible, here it is.

And I will never understand how one of the worst characters in RPG history managed to garner such a huge following. Even the :obviously: Mask of the Betrayer had a Minsc/Boo easter egg.

Haha I thought they said they were going to edit for quality control. :P

I guess they have a real loose definition of quality.

That was the second time I thought the game has a sudden ending, first time with the Anger and then with the tree. The tree looked like it led to somewhere.
